Chapter 345: I need to know
Chapter 345: I need to know
Blue
I have been standing outside my room for about five minutes. I don’t know what to do? I grab my phone from my pocket and call Major immediately, I should at least warn him. Let him know what is about to happen. Maybe he can escape before they get to him. He answers my call immediately "Hey,’’ he breathes into the phone.
My heart breaks because I blame myself for this. The elders in the coven are ruthless. They were quick to want to execute Levine and it seems like they will want to do the same thing to them too.
"They are coming for you, Badger is back and somehow, he convinced them all that you all are responsible for everything. You and the rest of the members of the association."
All I hear on the other end of the line is silence and his breathing. I don’t know how he will react to this but I want to help him. Especially after everything that he has done for me.
"Are you there?’’ I breathe into the phone. My heart is racing at this situation. I just hope I am not too late and I can get him out of this mess. If there is one good thing I can do. Then I want it to be helping him from this mess.
"There’s someone at my door,’’ he finally responds to me and I close my eyes, for the fear is becoming a reality.
"Don’t answer it,’’ I tell him immediately.
There is no doubt in my mind that it is Badger. He will be quick about it because he knows that I will definitely try to warn them out of this. "They are inside my house. I can hear them,’’ I hear his footsteps through the phone. Suddenly my senses are heightened. It feels like everything is happening so fast.
"Is there another way out of the house?’’
"No, the back door, but I have to go down the stairs. They are shuffling through my things. Don’t worry about me, I will find a way.’’ He states before ending the call. I drop the phone unsure of how I feel about everything. I want to be a coward. I want to walk into my room and leave with my mates, I don’t want to be involved in this.
My room door opens and Rex peeks out, I know he can sense me. That connection is still there. He smiles when he notices me and my heart melts completely. He walks out of the room and I watch him walk over to me. He is dressed in my shirt, it is way too big for him and somehow perfect at the same time. This is like a stamp, one that means I am basically claiming him. I don’t mind if he wears my clothes for the rest of his life.
"Hey,’’ he smiles, burying his head into my chest. I take him in my arms because even if I might be conflicted right now, I have to be strong for them. "How was the meeting?’’
I close my eyes because the meeting didn’t go as I wanted it to. The plan seems sidetracked now because how can I leave now, knowing that Badger is still out there, acting like he is such a good guy.
"It didn’t go as planned,’’ I tell him honestly. He is not the one I made all those promises to. Gyles is the one that I am afraid of right now. He doesn’t even want to be here anymore. I told him that I had everything sorted out and I thought that I did. Now I don’t know what to do.
Go back to the community. This is not your concern.
My wolf scolds me. He is right. This doesn’t have anything to do with me. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone.
There is no point.
"What happened?’’ he asks, pulling away from me slightly and looking up into my eyes. My heart throbs in my chest.
"Badger has everyone fooled and I don’t know how to prove that he is not the good person they all think he is. They see me and I am the weak son of the late chief. I am someone that has never really been involved in anything that has to do with the coven, so my opinions don’t matter."
"Do you think you are weak?’’
I shake my head. These people don’t want my help. They don’t think I am good enough, so nothing I do will ever be good enough.
"Do you care what they all think?’’
I shake my head again. I don’t know how to answer him right now. If there is anyone that believes in me—it is Rex. From the first day he met me, he has always seen me as this brave tough guy. I don’t know if I fit that slot anymore.
"I have something to show you,’’ he manages to grab my hand in his. "You have to look at this with an open mind. There are things that I know now that will definitely hurt to see.’’
His expression is unreadable.
"Come on,’’ he drags me into the room. Once we enter my room, I hear the shower running in the bathroom. "Gyles is in there,’’ he points to the bathroom door as he leads me to the bed.
"Levine might be disconnected from me but she left a piece of her memory inside me."
My heart beats even faster. I don’t know how I feel about that. I don’t know if I want to see the parts of her memory that she has kept hidden for so long. Rex seems to think that I need to see this. I am not so sure.
"She made a lot of mistakes in her life but she is not a bad person. She just trusted the wrong people.’’ He shrugs as he divulges that information to me.
I sit down on the edge of the bed and he stands in front of me "You don’t have to know but I think you need to know. Can I show you?’’ he grabs both of my hands in his. I nod my head immediately because he is right.
I need to know.
