Chapter 315: Always been on your corner

Blue

"It worked, huh?’’ he smiles at me as I open the door to the house. Major walks in and I think of what to say next. I still don’t trust him but he is the only one that has helped me so far. I know he will have something he would want in return after this favour. I am already expecting it because people don’t just help for free. He is not someone that I have ever seen as selfless.

"Yeah, he remembers everything."

He stops and then looks at me with a serious expression "Everything?’’

I nod "Yeah, there is someone else involved, which means you might have been right about Levine not being the mastermind all along."

No matter what I find out, Levine will always be guilty. She might not have planned it all but she involved herself in hurting my mother. She ended up being responsible for her death and I will not forgive her. She will be executed, just like the elders want.

"That’s a good thing...isn’t it?’’

I nod.

"Did he see who it was? Can you identify the person?’’ he asks me curiously. It seems like he is a little too curious.

I shake my head "he didn’t see the guy’s face. just the voice. I don’t know if he will be able to recognize it again if he hears it."

I watch Major, for a sense, anything that will show me why his interest in this is strong but he shakes off the strange expression and smiles widely "It is a good thing. We are a step closer to the truth."

I agree with a nod "I need to find Levine. There has to be a way to track her.’’

This is me just throwing it all out there. I don’t want to have to resort to using the book. I don’t want to resort to going back to Em for his help. I would like to do this the good way. That is why I am here, trying to see if Major would be able to help me.

"I might be able to help you but I don’t want to make any promises. Let us just get to rex and see if we can get him back first,’’ he tells me and my heart reacts to his words. he hasn’t made any promises but I already feel grateful. I want to be optimistic and believe that things won’t have to go the other direction.

What if he is the one behind everything?

My wolf questions. I don’t want to think the worst of everything. there is the chance that he could be bad but I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. If I condemn him without even knowing anything, then I might just end up losing the ones I love. I know I shouldn’t trust him and I don’t trust him—this is just me using him for what I want.

"You know, I always wondered why you were so different from the rest of us,’’ he tells me as we walk down the halls, to the direction of my room.

I glance at him and give him a faint smile. Everyone hated me for being different. Now I am fucking glad that I am not like them. I am so glad that I have a chance to escape it all.

"You just thought I was a loser.’’

He laughs "I never thought you were a loser. I always felt a presence inside you. I knew there was more to you.’’

I raise a brow "Oh really?’’

He nods "Do you remember the book you found, at the party in my house?’’ he asks.

I remember it like it was yesterday. The book in his library. There was a party that I was forced to go to by my mother. I didn’t want to go and I wouldn’t have been invited if she wasn’t. I did the one thing I usually used to do. Go somewhere secluded and stay alone. I went down to the library at their mansion just to while away time.

"What about it?’’

He smiles "The book about Lycans? Ring a bell?’’

I frown "What are you getting at?’’

"I made you find the book. I always had my eyes on you. Always knew there was more to you.’’ he tells me.

I never even noticed him watching me. I always had the notion that I will always be alone. He was shit to me and now he is trying to take the glory of the first time I felt a connection to my true self.

"You might not believe me but I have always known. I have always been at your corner.’’

He winks just as we get to the door of my room. Gyles opens the door before I can respond to Majors confession. I don’t know how to feel about all that he just said. I don’t trust him. I will never trust him.

It seems like you do.

My wolf attacks me snarkily.

I roll my eyes and grab Gyles by his arm gently "he is still asleep,’’ he tells me in a low voice. I lean into him and take a whiff of his scent. It makes me feel better. I turn to major and he has an amused smile on his face.

Rex has been very exhausted and I don’t blame him. this whole ordeal is draining. I am so proud of him for how long he has held up. he is my brave little man.

"We can do this while he is asleep. It will be better. He will feel less pain,’’ he assures me and I remember how hurt Rex was earlier from the last session.

"I don’t think that is a good idea. we should wake him up,’’ Gyles interjects with a glare. I see that he doesn’t like Major. I completely understand him for not trusting him. he has every right to but we need him right now.

"Let’s do this majors way. He will be fine,’’ I slide my hand up Gyles’s arm to calm him down and he releases a sigh.

"come on.’’
