The Werewolf's Vampire Mate -
Chapter 299: Disobedience
Chapter 299: Disobedience
Gyles.
This is not what I want.
I don’t want to disobey Blue. I don’t always want to be the troublemaker that he has made me out to be. In the eyes of everyone, I am being stubborn, rebelling against my mate. I should listen to him and do this the right way.
You know you want to find him.
Give in to this and I can help you.
I take deep breaths as I brush my fingers against the words on the book. It is not in English. I have no idea what is on the book but the curiosity to explore the pages gets stronger. My wolf is the only strong part of me. the only one that is still fighting this temptation. I have already given in completely. My heart is leaning towards this easy way. The fear of never being able to find Rex is lingering, torturing, and terrifying me. I know that if I wait for Blue, we will eventually find him—but what if it is too late? What if I have the chance of finding him alive and well right now.
This is not the right way to do this.
My wolf reminds me. Blue said there is a darkness that will come from this book. I have had enough darkness in my life. I don’t know if this is something I want. I don’t know if, at the end of it all, it will be worth it.
Trust me, Gyles, it will be worth it. give in and you wouldn’t live a day to regret the decision.
My heart thuds against my chest. The voice in my head is calming and very strong. The voice of a seductress, pulling me into its orbit. I don’t know if I have the willpower to resist. I don’t know if I even want to resist.
Close your eyes. I will show you your mate.
I close my eyes instantly. the last shred of willpower diminishing. The second my eyes are closed; darkness is all I see. In a flash, a string of light evolves and I see him in a cage—just like the one in my dream. He is crying and hitting the bars, trying to get out but the louder he screams, the more silence engulfs him. I take steady breaths because I know this is all in my head, no matter how much I want to see him, I can’t right now.
"Where is he?’’ I ask the voice. the person in my head. The person I shouldn’t even trust. I don’t even know who this is. it might be Levine messing with my head. This might all be part of her plan and I am giving in.
Closer than you think.
I wait for her to explain but she remains silent. No more words, no explanation. She just leaves me hanging in the closet with my eyes closed. I hold the book tighter, squeezing it. in that second, the person in my head vanishes and is replaced by Levine in the cage. Just the same way Rex was, she is the one. My heart beats heavily against my chest as I drop the book on the carpeted floor with a loud thud. I move away from it so fast that I hit my back on the door. My hands tremble as I open my eyes to the brightness of the room.
I run out of the room and grab my phone from the bedside table. I don’t know how I feel about what I just saw. My hands tremble as I dial Blue’s number. He answers on the first ring "Are you okay?’’ he asks immediately. I don’t blame him for being worried because I always find a way of causing trouble.
"I know where he is,’’ I tell him immediately.
"What?’’
I Smile not even thinking about the repercussions of what I did. He said I shouldn’t use the book. Well, I didn’t technically use it? right?
"I know where Rex is,’’ I repeat.
"How, where, I am almost home,’’ he ends the call with all those questions hanging. I walk out of the room and go into the dungeon. The place where Levine is. the guard on duty lets me pass through without any questions. I am under the assumption that blue asked them to let me in if I wanted to.
"She is in the third door down the hall," he tells me calmly.
I keep walking until I get to the room. I see the cage; this is the same cage that Rex was in the last time he was locked up. this time, he is locked up as someone else. He—or should I say, she is seated on the floor, her hands are clutching the bars of the cage. There are tears in her eyes. I remember what Beau said, about feeling him. Levine looks up at me and the sadness in her eyes encompasses me. I see him immediately. I see the pain, hurt, everything that beau said I would feel.
He is the one.
"Rex,’’ I call his name.
She blinks calmly, a hint of confusion "What?’’ she asks me as I walk closer to the cage. Slowly, she stands up from the ground but her eyes never leave me. it is almost like she doesn’t even know what is happening.
"Rex, I know you are in there. It’s me, Gyles,’’ I manage.
She furrows her brows "I don’t know what you are talking about. I am not Rex.’’ she tells me and for a second, there is a shift in her eyes. She becomes unrecognizable to me. I hear footsteps, slowly turning around, I see Blue and he doesn’t look too happy.
"What are you doing here?’’ he asks me immediately.
He grabs my hand immediately. I know he is upset with me but there is no time to dwell on that "I found him, I found rex,’’ I smile excitedly.
"Why are you in here, where is he?’’
I take a deep breath because he might not believe me. he might think this is another one of my jokes. He might not believe me and I need him to believe me.
"Rex is Levine, you have the wrong person locked up.’’
He opens his eyes wide and I see the shock in them.
"You used the book,’’ he mutters immediately.
I shake my head but he doesn’t believe me. Blue knows me, deep down, he knows that I would do something like that.
"You didn’t listen to me."
The expression on his face breaks me.
The fact that he will forever not trust me.
