The Werewolf's Vampire Mate
Chapter 20: The killing begins.

Chapter 20: The killing begins.

Alanis.

He is sleeping.

His snores are soft, almost like music to my ears. I am watching him like a fucking creep as he sleeps. He stirs in my arms and I hold him tighter. I replay the night back in my head and regret kicks in.

Shit.

I cried like a fucking wuss.

Cried for no reason. I can’t explain why I was so emotional but Beau handled it perfectly. He didn’t judge me or laugh at me. He took me in his arms and made sure I was okay.

"You’re not alone. We are in this together. I will never let you. I will fight for you until my last breath"

His words soothed me at my weakest point. After we changed my sheets, we stayed cuddled up in bed until he fell asleep. I can’t sleep, it’s all too much. Him being next to me when I thought I would never get to see him again. The intimacy of our night is still playing out in my head. I got a blow job from a man and it felt a million times better than any I’ve ever had. I feel my phone vibrate. Grabbing I see Rus’s ID. Checking the time with a frown; it is 2 am. Why the fuck is he calling me.

"Hello," I answer in a hushed tone.

The other end of the line is noisy. "L my man. I need a big ass favour," he says into the phone laughing. He is drunk, why is he involving me in his stupid moves.

"What is it?" I move away from Beau and he stirs but doesn’t wake up. He is tried and I need him to get all the rest he needs. I walk to my window and wait for his reply. "Rus," I say his name again.

"I am in a bind. I messed with a couple of biker guys and they are about to kill me," he sounds terrified. I groan because this is usual for my best friend. He has no filter and says shit all the time.

"What do you want me to do?"

He laughs again, he is doing a lot of laughing for someone that is in supposed danger "Do your running thing and come help me. I’m at Russo’s" he ends the call.

"Fuck."

I grab a pair of sweats and a t-shirt from my closet and leave the house not wanting to wake him up. I will just go help Rus and be back swiftly. I run as fast as I can until I reach Russo’s. Russo’s is a regular bar I go to. So finding it was no problem. The lights that spell out the owner of the bar are brightly lit. There are motorcycles lined up in the front entrance. I hear the ruckus from a mile away. What did Rus do now?

I walk into the building but it is empty apart from a couple of regulars. Chloe sees me and smiles brightly "He is out back," she tells me as she pours a drink for someone. Chloe is a bartender.

I sigh and she chuckles as I go through the back in search of him. I hate that he has to drag me to save his ass all the time but he is my best friend and he is the only one I trust in this town—apart from Beau. Beau is all I live for now. As I walk out, Rus flies and falls to my feet. His face is bruised and bloody. I look at the culprits of injuries.

Two bulky men dressed in full leather gear stare at us angrily. Rus grabs my legs squeezing it "Shit, just in time" he smiles and I see a chip in his tooth. "What did you?" I focus on him because I don’t want to fight right now. There is too much love in my heart that I just want to love everyone and show them what they are missing.

"This doesn’t concern you," one of the men speaks up. I take a deep breath and my scent kicks in. That smell—shit.

"They are mutts," I whisper to Rus. I can’t fight wolves, this is bad. Rus furrows his brows, not understanding what I am saying "Thye won’t just let us go."

"Look, man, please forgive my friend. He is clueless," I wave my hands in the air. Completely surrendering to them. The same one that spoke earlier laughs hysterically.

I sigh and run my fingers through my hair. They walk closer to us "He should put his fists where his mouth is" they are gloating. They know they can’t be defeated by him. Would I be able to watch them beat him up?

"I apologise on his behalf,’’ I cower and Rus shouts. "Yeah man, if anything, your girlfriend is the one that asked for it."

Shut your mouth Rus.

I close my eyes because I know this is not going to end well. The guy that has been quiet jumps until he has Rus in his grip. Rus groans probably from all the pain he is feeling. I pull him away from them and behind me instantly "Leave him alone. Look, he is drunk. He doesn’t know what he is saying" I try to justify his stupidity.

"I can smell you from a mile away. You are a fucking Vamp" the same guy speaks up. He smiles evilly. His expression is scary because it looks like he wants to fight. We aren’t allowed to fight.

"So, you should know that this fight cannot happen" I warn him. Rus is still behind me. I look at him already sensing that these guys want to inflict more pain than they have on him. "Go back inside."

He reaches for the doorknob and I watch him run into the building. "Let’s settle this amicably" I plead.

"He forced himself on my Wife," the quiet one explains. He has shoulder-length black hair and the darkest brown eyes. He is angry and from his explanation, I can understand why.

"I am sorry about that," I apologise again.

"This doesn’t concern you. We just want to teach him a lesson. You don’t act like a fucking douche just because you’ve had a couple of drinks." I understand him. I completely understand but we can’t fight because I will have to protect Rus.

"I will make sure he doesn’t do anything like this again." I guarantee them. I don’t want this to get out of hand. I have to nip this in the bud. Now.

"Just talk to your friend. He might not be lucky next time," they walk away from me. I release a sigh of relief. This could’ve gone in the other direction but I am glad it didn’t. I walk into the bar and Rus runs into my arms "Shit, thank you so much," he plants kisses on my cheek. I laugh because he can never be serious.

"What did you do?" I ask him.

He sighs and I notice that he is still bleeding. ’It wasn’t like that. I just misinterpreted things and they got angry," he explains. I believe him because Rus is not that kind of person "I didn’t do anything to her."

I nod "Come on dude. Let’s get you home. Did you drive here?" he nods his head. I drive him to his house and run all the way back to mine, hoping and praying that he is still asleep. I use the front door so as not to wake him but he is seated on the bed waiting.

"Shit," I whisper caught off guard.

"Where did you go?"

I walk over to the bed and crawl until I am under the covers with him. He wraps his arms around my waist and breathes into my neck "I had to go help a friend out. His name is Rus." I explain being transparent with him. He smiles and plants a kiss on my cheek. "I missed you."

I look out the window and the sun is rising, creating an orange reflection into my room "Do you have to go back home today?" it’s a school day but if he is staying with me I don’t plan on going.

"I’m not going back," he squeezes me tighter. I chuckle at his words because I don’t want him to leave. "I snuck out last night. He won’t let me see you. Having no mate is better than mating with a Vampire," he looks at me "His words. Not mine."

I manage a smile "What are we going to do? You said we have two months. What happens if your father is still against it in the next full moon?"

Beau sighs "I don’t know. I have to find out if it’s possible to do the ritual without the Alpha’s approval. He is not going to change his mind."

"Oh,"

He raises my chin up with a sad smile. I know this is hurting him as much as it is hurting me "This will work. You are mine," he assures me and I believe him completely. The door to my room opens abruptly and Belis barges into my room getting caught off guard by the appearance in front of him "Shit. Sorry," he is looking at Beau with a smirk on his face.

"You need to come out right now," he waves his hand and walks out of my room. The fact that Beau is here is not surprising. They all probably know he came in last night. Something is wrong. I get up from the bed and Beau stands up "Is this about me?"

I shrug "I don’t know. Are you hungry?" I ask him.

"I wouldn’t mind food right now," he smiles sheepishly.

I go back to him and peck him on the lips softly "Alright mister. Just hold on a bit. I’d be right back."

I go to fathers’ study and everyone is assembled. All seated with worried looks on their face. "What is going on?" I say straightforward. Father is the first to speak up in his. Shit is about to hit the fan tone.

"Two wolves were killed early this morning." my heart lunges in my chest already panicking. "By a vampire or vampires. The number is not sure.

"Where?" I ask because I need to know. It can’t possibly be a coincidence. Please God, not them.

"At Russo’s bar," he grabs a remote from the table and puts on the television. It’s on a local channel and the news is on. I see the crime scene and I hate myself right now. Those guys are dead? I didn’t kill them, but I was there.

"I went there last night," I am going to be honest with them because I can’t hide this from them. They need to know in case I am somehow dragged into this. Everyone’s eyes are on me. Shock ridden eyes. "I met them. They had some issues with Rus. I intervened but I didn’t kill them."

Father sighs and removes his glasses "Why are you so involved with the wolves. What is going on Lan?" he is worried. My hands are shaking because this feels like a setup. I already know that this is going to come back to haunt me.

"I didn’t know they were wolves and when I found out. I settled it with words. I didn’t kill them," I am desperate for them to believe me. "I swear." Eligio sighs out loud "You guys believe me, right?"

"We believe you," Eligio answers but I can tell he is just being supportive. Darrien laughs and I know he is going to say something stupid "You probably couldn’t control your anger as usual" he scoffs.

I frown "I wasn’t angry. I calmed them down and settled it. There was no fighting" I replay the night in my mind.

"I’ll find out more about this, I just need you to lay a low profile," Father tells me. I nod because he is right. There has to be some kinda evidence to prove I didn’t do this.

I need to tell beau about this.

I go up the stairs with dread because I don’t know how I am going to explain this to him. I enter the room and he is gone. Shit. I hope he didn’t hear the conversation downstairs. What if he thinks I did it?

I sit on the bed with so much sadness in me. The door to the shower opens and he walks out with a bright smile on his face; he notices my expression and freezes. I thought I’d have time to at least gather up the courage to tell him this. I am too scared to even fathom that he might not believe me.

Shit.
