The Way of Basketball: Never Talk Shit to Him!
Chapter 279 - 169 Nowitzki: We are not on the same level as him.

Chapter 279: Chapter 169 Nowitzki: We are not on the same level as him.

Dan Piel’s biggest contribution to the team was almost the same as the "Kid God" from IG.

The second year after the Kid God retired, IG immediately won the League of Legends World Championship, marking the "E-Sports’ First Year" for the LPL; as soon as Dan Piel transferred, Dirk Nowitzki also had his most legendary season, lifting his Finals MVP trophy.

Su Wan capitalized on Dan Piel’s slowness in moving and his reluctance to exert too much effort in protecting the basket, repeatedly attacking the rim.

By halftime, the score was 56 to 57.

Thanks to Nowitzki’s last shot of the half, the Mavericks were barely leading by one point.

In the second half, Rick Carlisle deployed a "Small Lineup" early, hoping to seize the tempo, but unfortunately, the Pacers fast-paced game instead gave the Mavericks opportunities for "Counterattack Shooting Points."

Nowitzki, Josh Howard, and Terry were shooting like crazy.

On the other hand, Calderon and Artest from the Pacers had a cold-shooting night.

The Pacers fell into a defensive position, finishing the third quarter 13 points behind.

"Regular season MVP is Dirk’s, Huaxia people, you need to wait another year!" Jason Terry, seeing a double-digit lead established, started taunting Su Wan with "trash talk."

Then...

He saw an "Overclocked" Su Wan in the fourth quarter!

Tonight, Su Wan’s most eye-catching was his Breakthrough ability to create mayhem, Daniel’s interference under the basket posed no threat to him at all. Just like Artest, his shooting touch wasn’t good tonight either.

Maybe it was contagious, or perhaps because of too much driving.

But as the fourth quarter began, his condition suddenly warmed up.

Right from the start, he continually scored from mid-range.

This made the Mavericks’ "Little General" so anxious that he called for time-out twice.

But they couldn’t really restrict Su Wan’s shooting, although the Mavericks’ shooting firepower continued.

As the teams exchanged leads, the game moved to the final 2 minutes.

The Mavericks were still leading by 7 points.

But the Dallas fans on-site didn’t dare to breathe.

Especially when Su Wan got the ball, they involuntarily held their breath.

By this point in the fourth quarter, Su Wan had imperceptibly scored 15 points, and his explosive performance made the Mavericks’ fans feel like he hadn’t missed a single shot.

"Double team, double them!"

"Little General" Johnson urgently shouted.

Su Wan, facing a more intense double team from Howard and Terry, didn’t hesitate and quickly passed the ball, but a second after passing, he ran towards Artest who received the pass.

Artest passed it back, and Su Wan jumped for a catch-and-shoot three-point.

"Swish!"

The ball netted.

The lead cut to 4 points!

Su Wan scored 18 points this quarter!

"Come on, defend, defend!"

Carlisle’s shouting and Su Wan’s signaling had every Pacer quickly falling into place.

Yet the Mavericks’ abundant outside firepower caused the Pacers to be very loose in their final positioning.

The ball successfully reached Nowitzki under the basket.

"Ha!"

Little O’Neal used all his might, managing to block Nowitzki’s post-up singles.

At the moment the ball bounced off, the entire arena emitted a low sigh.

Before this shot, Nowitzki’s turnaround jump shots tonight were 7 for 7.

But at this crucial moment, his shot went off.

We had never known "Golden Chicken Stance" Nowitzki to miss like that!

The ball was secured by Foster.

Johnson didn’t dare let his players double-team Su Wan anymore.

He assigned Howard to face Su Wan directly.

Su Wan, against Howard, usually unstoppable with explosive power, this time couldn’t completely shake him off.

No way around it, that guy’s arms were just too long.

Seeing Nowitzki moving forward to team up with Howard, Su Wan had no choice but to grit his teeth and activate "Full Power" one last time.

His offensive surged, and Su Wan’s speed suddenly increased a lot, Nowitzki, who could have blocked him, just reached the edge of the Reasonable Collision Zone as Pacers’ No. 99 soared into the air.

"Bang!"

Unable to avoid it, Nowitzki could only watch as Su Wan completed the slam dunk above his head.

"Beep!"

The referee’s whistle sounded.

"A chance for 2 and 1,"

There was silence for about two or three seconds at the Dallas American Airlines Arena, disbelief in everyone’s eyes.

Not just them, the Pacers were all wearing the same expression, unable to believe that Su Wan still had the strength to complete such a slam dunk after playing aggressively all game.

Rick Carlisle was puzzled, just how good, or not, was this guy’s physical fitness?

"Damn, Su, I thought you were going to fly right over that guy’s head!"

Artest was the first to react, punching Su Wan hard, almost sending him off.

Little O’Neal then slapped him as well.

These two brothers really do look alike now!

The atmosphere of the Mavericks was suppressed to the extreme.

Terry, who had just been trash-talking Su Wan, looked guilty, mumbling non-stop:

We can win, we can win!

Definitely can win!

Who knew, this guy had scored 21 points already and it wasn’t enough, he then scored another 20 points in the fourth quarter, no...

Terry watched as Su Wan valiantly made the free throw.

points!

Fourth quarter, 21 points!

What kind of freak is this!

Not just him, the entire Mavericks team panicked, their positions revealing their restlessness, as if they all knew what was going to happen next.

Terry was the last one to step up, shooting directly from beyond the three-point line on the right side.

The moment he released the ball, Su Wan also lunged in front of him, unfortunately about 0.2 seconds too late, the ball flew past before his hand could cover it.

"Whoosh!"

Terry’s heartbeat intensified, his eyes fixed on the ball flying towards the basket.

"Bang!"

The ball hit the rim, not falling in directly, but bouncing straight up.

"Bang!"

It bounced on the rim again.

This time, the arc wasn’t as high.

As it fell this time, the red light on the backboard lit up.

The game was over!

"Swish!"

Just then, the ball dropped into the basket.

From Terry shooting the ball to it dropping into the basket, it took a whole 3–4 seconds.

Rick Carlisle shook his head helplessly, they were just one point behind, he hadn’t thought about fouling, but ended up inadvertently aiding Jason Terry’s incredibly lucky shot.

The venue erupted in cheers, every Dallas fan’s eyes filled with relief.

It was the last time they "escaped from death."

Luckily, time was up, or else no matter how few seconds were left, given Su Wan’s form in the fourth, they felt the Mavericks would undoubtedly lose.

Right after the game ended, Terry embraced Su Wan, "I almost became the villain for the Mavericks, man you are truly terrifying!"

In a post-game interview:

"In the fourth quarter, we weren’t even on the same level as him," said Nowitzki as he commented on Su Wan’s 21 points in that quarter alone.

"I think ten years from now, I’ll still remember this as the luckiest shot of my career!" Terry told reporters, still marveling at the terrifying chokehold of those final moments.

"If Su Wan doesn’t get the regular season MVP, then each of us owes him an apology," said Rick Carlisle about the loss.

"Losing means we were inferior; inferior means we need to practice more. If I had been strong enough, I could have blocked Jason, but I didn’t," Su Wan didn’t respond to his point outburst in the final quarter, instead reflecting critically on himself.

"As far as results go, I lost the game, so if the final regular-season MVP is Dirk Nowitzki, I have no objections," Su Wan on his current stance about the MVP of this season.

"Regret? More than regretting truly missing out on the regular season MVP, I regret not making that block. If I had, I would have secured the MVP," Su Wan continued to dwell on not blocking Jason Terry’s shot.
