Chapter 137 - The Short Break
The announcement echoed through the academy halls like a bell signaling freedom.
> "Due to your exemplary performance at the Tournament and Dungeon Trials, all students will be granted an extended break. You are to return home and rest well. Dismissal begins tomorrow morning."
Cheers erupted through the dorms, laughter bubbling over like uncorked wine. Students raced to pack, to plan, to dream. After all the fights, pressure, and near-death chaos, a break was a blessing.
In their shared room, Sera practically danced as she stuffed clothes into her travel bag. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, her thoughts clearly already halfway home.
"I can't wait to see my sister again," she beamed, holding up a dress against herself. "She's going to freak when I tell her I made it to the semi-finals."
Zane sat at the window, silently watching the clouds drift by. A faint smile tugged at the edge of his lips—not at her words, but at her happiness. He was glad she had someone waiting.
Sera paused mid-pack, glancing over at him. "What about you? Heading home?"
Zane shrugged, still watching the sky. "I don't really have one."
The room grew quiet. Sera's joy faltered just a little. She stepped over and sat beside him, bumping her shoulder gently against his.
"Well... where do you plan to go then?"
He leaned back, arms crossed behind his head. "I dunno. I'll figure something out. Maybe wander around and see what trouble I find."
Sera rolled her eyes. "You mean what trouble finds you."
He smirked. "Same difference."
Nyx's voice echoed lazily in his head.
> "You could always visit that shady tavern in Black Hollow. Heard they serve misery on tap."
Zane snorted. "No thanks."
Sera tilted her head. "What?"
"Nothing. Just arguing with my inner demon."
She giggled, but her smile quickly faded into a thoughtful line. "You know... you could come with me."
Zane raised a brow. "To your family?"
"Why not? They'll love you. Or at least tolerate you."
He chuckled softly, but didn't answer. Not yet.
Outside, the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the academy grounds. Break was coming. For some, it meant rest. For others... it just meant drifting.
