Chapter 69: Impossible task

"It’s a shame we have to part on this note, Your Highness." Duchess Fiona chimed slightly bowing to Abrielle. As Cedric said they were to indeed start making their departure for the capital immediately.

The Duke and Duchess of Danbury had to see the royal couple off before they departed. "It’s not your fault life is unpredictable. I pray the goddess gives you the strength to handle those two unfortunate incidents." Abrielle said on a tender note.

The duchess had a good image of Abrielle despite the rumours she was the treasured talentless daughter of the Nightshade family. "Those are kind words, Rudeus and I might be visiting the capital next year. Hopefully, by then, we have been able to handle the situation."

"I am sure you can, it was a pity I never got to have tea with you and the other Ladies maybe when you get to the capita,l we might have tea together." Abrielle chirped in, saying what she doesn’t mean in the least way.

"That’s a wonderful offer, I will be looking forward to it. " Fiona extended her gratitude. The ladies were busy having their chit-chat while the men seemed to be having a serious conversation. Abrielle could deduce it was about the recent incident from how grim their faces were.

"It’s truly a shame the hunt had to come to an abrupt end. Although I am sure his highness would have won and dedicated his win to you." Fiona said as the ladies’ eyes were on their husbands. Abrielle didn’t reply to that, it was very likely to be true if Cedric was invested in the hunt.

The peak of the hunt was when participants dedicated their winnings to their lovers or admirers. The person with the highest prey, which was most likely a lady, would be crowned the queen of the hunt. Ced,ric as her husb, and would have had no other choice than to dedicate his winnings to far.

"Maybe we might find out on another hunt," Abrielle replied, Cedric seemed to have finished his conservation with Rudeus and returned to her side. "Hope I didn’t keep you waiting for long," he chimed, placing a short kiss on one of her cheeks as his hand held her waist.

She was sick of his public display of affection, this was to Keep up the image they were a model couple. Fiona smiled at them thinking exactly what Cedric wanted her to. "Please have a safe journey," the Danbury couple bid them farewell at the entrance of the manor. Their carriage was already waiting for them ahead.

"May we?" Cedric said, linking his fingers with Abrielle’s as they made their way to the carriage. Cedric diligently helped Abrielle climb up the door before he followed behind to seat by her side.

"We would be travelling by land to the capital." Cedric’s voice said from Abrielle’s side, drawing her attention to him from the window. Most nobles were leaving today.

"I hope we arrive on time then, I don’t want to keep the king waiting since he awaits our arrival." She subtly nodded then turned away. Honestly, she didn’t have any words to say to him and was trying her best to act like nothing had changed between them.

Cedric knew there was something odd about her, she was more cold than Normal. He knew she had been avoiding him since the hunting incident.

"You are quieter than usual." He mentioned it to start up a conversation. Abrielle didn’t say anything to him. She was mad at herself, and after speaking to Evelyn about birth control, it frightened her to the core.

Although she knew the chances of getting pregnant were low since the original Abrielle never got pregnant there was a slim chance.

"Are you mad at me?" He added, trying to understand what was going on in her head; he didn’t understand why he was bothered by her silence. "Do I have a reason to be mad at you?" Abrielle finally said sarcastically.

She has a couple of reasons to be mad but she just didn’t want to talk to him now. She was in a dilemma; things were getting bleak for her with each passing day as the slow realization that she might not be able to fight the plot.

He was too strong and clouded by mysteries, she never wanted any of this in the first place. "How will I know when I am not you?" Cedric replied, "you know we can talk like a normal couple does." He added.

Abrielle’s brows fur, rowed wondering what was wrong with Cedric with this personality change, he was oddly cari,ng and honest,ly she preferreit d when he acted like a jerk. That made it easier to hate him.

"You are being too attentive. What happened to the cold, heartless prince Cedric. It is nothing honestly, I am just tired and drained about everything." She retorted with a forced smile. She had to be careful with her words when handling a ticking bomb like him. She knew sfeve

Cedric sighed and then went silent; he beckoned on the coachman to stop, and then he left the carriage, continuing the journey by horse, leaving only Abrielle inside. She preferred it when he gave her space. That way, she could be able to focus on her mission.

A notification sound only Abrielle could hear rang, and a blue screen appeared in front of her. The annoying system was back.

CONGRATULATIONS ON COMPLETE YOUR PREVIOUS MISSION AND FINDING YOUR REWARD.

Abrielle clicked her tongue because an empty book didn’t seem like a reward.

The screen changed as soon as she was done reading it. Abrielle read the next message, which made her almost choke on her spit. The first one was not bad but the second message almost made her bite her tongue.

THE NEXT MISSION ON THE JOURNEY OF A VILLAINESS.

THE PROLOGUE OF THE DRAGONS AND THE PRIESTESS IS ABOUT TO START. YOU HAVE TOO IMPORTANT QUEST FOR YOUR SURVIVAL.

BENEFITS; IMPROVING YOUR STRENGTH.
