Chapter 35: Khaos monster

The entire forest was shaking; the trembling sounds and shrieking sounds of scared animals echoed, making it hard for Abrielle to hear Cedric’s warnings.

Abrielle’s horse was out of control as it ran towards a tree that was about to collapse. "Belinda, steady," She tried to get the horse under control, but with everyone high in adrenaline, it was hard.

Her horse jumped, making her lose her grip on the reins, and she fell off, injuring herself as Belinda ran to safety.

Abrielle’s heart beat rapidly as she sensed the danger coming from the large tree trunk that was about to fall on her, but she couldn’t move. Her ankle was already twisted and badly injured from the fall.

She looked around, but there was no one; Belinda had run deep into the forest away from Cedric. She had to get up and leave here, but her feet were not responding.

"Get up Abrielle, get the fuck up." She screamed, not caring about using contemporary words. Another deafening growl rang and it seemed like it was very close.

The creaking sound of the tree’s root being uprooted echoed; Abrielle knew she had to get out of there, but why was she so unlucky to be the talentless villainess with a weak body?

"Move, move, you can do it." She kept on telling herself. She couldn’t die here, she just couldn’t. Her life didn’t have to end here. Tears welled in her eyes as she tried to crawl away, pulling herself among the debris on the ground that Injured her.

The tree trunk snapped, and her death was imminent; there was no escape as she hadn’t been able to crawl away from its path.

She hated horses; one failed to help her escape, and now another one left her here to die. The ground shook away as vines uprooted, and Abrielle’s leg got stuck. She couldn’t crawl anymore. Her trembling hands started to try to pull it out of the trap.

Where the hell was Cedric? She thought, or did he run to save himself? She successfully pulled her leg from the trap but it was too late as the large trunk was just inches away from her.

She guessed her fate was death, unavoidable; she couldn’t escape. Abrielle pressed her eyes together waiting for the darkness to take over.

Then a thunderous sound boomed, and a fast dark aura shot towards the trunk, shattering it to pieces. The sound was so loud that her eyes went deaf, and she had to press her ears together with her hands.

Abrielle was already deaf from the explosion sounds that she didn’t hear a particular devil calling out her name as his horse rang towards her direction.

The sharp debris of the tree’s broken shards was flying towards her, but she was too stunned by the earlier explosion. That was what Cedric saw immediately; his eyes found his wife amidst the chaos.

His eyes flickered between gold and black, and something like a black bubble covered Abrielle. Then he raced towards her with his horse.

Abrielle opened her eyes and was surprised to be surrounded by a black sphere that quickly disappeared, and then she felt something pull her.

She screamed, trying to escape its grasp until she realized it was Cedric who had pulled her and placed her on his horse as they raced out of there.

"Sorry, I got you into this. I had no idea a Khoas was in the environment." Cedric, the cold-hearted Villain who was only tender to the female lead, apologized to her with his arm firmly on her waist protectively.

Her heart was still beating fast from the adrenaline that was still rushing in her veins. She was facing Cedric and her face was so close to his face she felt his warm breath that had thick hints of grape. He must have drunk this morning.

He apologized twice to her in one day. Abrielle clung to him as she quickly averted her eyes from him to look at the wreck behind them as the forest was falling apart. How can one monster be capable of doing this much damage?

"Hold on tight, we need to get to safety first," Cedric said as his eyes darted around the forest with his jaw clenched. Someone wanted him dead so much that they summoned this monster out here.

Khoas were not found in this part of the kingdom. The only reason one can be found here is unless it was summoned. He had to get rid of it before it got into the nearby town. That would be disastrous, as much as he doesn’t care much about most people. It would be a shame if lives were lost because of him.

Abrielle was clinging to him because her life depended on it. The monster was not close but she knew it was following her.

As soon as Cedric made it from the woods to the grassland close to the castle. He stopped the horse and got off giving her the reins.

"Run to the castle no matter what, don’t turn back and keep on running forward." He instructed her since he needed her far away from here.

Abrielle’s eyes widened, realizing what his intentions were. " You don’t plan on facing that monster on your own do you." She gasped.

Cedric smiled at her. "Someone has to take care of it." He said, then urged the horse to run away before Abrielle could say a thing.

She glanced behind to see he was running back to the forest. How does he plan on taking on that monster without a sword? Cedric was not with his sword for crying out loud.

She looked away. Why was she bothered? It would be a good thing if he died. She didn’t have to make an effort for the big bad villain to die. This was fate working in her favour. A small smile graced her lips as she urged the horse to run faster. She could already sense her freedom ahead.
