Chapter 268: Need a break

It was a long evening but it helped Abrielle forget the task hanging on her head for the main time until she was in the palace again that night.

Rebecca and Pierre did not attend the banquet but instead had dinner with Ava and Mikhail. Rebecca was excited about Ava’s pregnancy and that was the reason for the dinner.

Regardless, Abrielle preferred it; she was getting suffocated. Her mind was just thinking about what might be worse than death.

The banquet was the same: a bunch of nobles enjoying the night. The only difference was that Abrielle seemed to be enjoying her wine a bit too much. She was currently on the fourth glass for the night, and she wasn’t planning on stopping soon.

The princess was obviously being disturbed by something. She stood in a quiet corner while her eyes observed. Cedric was not here, not that she should care.

How did she wish he would just miraculously disappear? Abrielle sighed, were her thoughts heartless? It wasn’t that, she was just a girl that wanted to survive.

Abrielle noticed another fact: Callista was also missing, but Lucian was here. He was talking with some nobles but his attention was not focused. His eyes darted around finding someone.

Abrielle was sure it was Callista. Abrielle’s eyes trailed from Lucian, searching for something interesting even though Eleanor was absent. Her hands were probably filled with the whole Astrid situation.

Sigh, Abrielle sighed for the umpteenth time tonight. Her glass was tilted to her lips but nothing slipped into her lips. It was empty. She beckoned the wine server for another glass, her taste of alcohol was still not quelled.

"Isn’t that enough wine for a single night," she heard a familiar voice mentioned; it had skipped her attention. The cause of her present dilemma. Alfonso Von Drakkar, the prince, was interested in her for a strange reason.

"When you say it, my mood is instantly ruined. " Abrielle hissed, and she changed her mind. It was time she called it a night.

"You make it seem like you don’t want to see me," Alfonso stated the obvious. Abrielle snickered. "I am glad you are smart enough to know that simple fact." The princess walked away from Alfonso but he was a jerk through and through. She crossed the door getting into the garden.

The sound of the fountain echoed in the distance. It was night, and most flowers were not in bloom except the Nocturnal flowers that ruled the night, blooming under the moonlight.

Abrielle was walking as fast as she could away from the public eyes but his foot did not stop. "Your mood is pretty bad tonight." He said. She closed her eyes to draw in a deep breath.

"Can you just stop, please? I am begging you just let me be Alfonso. You have caused me enough trouble already. Why can’t you just give me a break?" She snapped, unable to hold back her pent-up frustration. Alfonso was stunned by her outburst, a frown settling between his brows.

He did not go away as she begged; instead, his eyes were filled with what she would describe as concern. "What happened? Did any of the ladies say anything nasty at the club meeting?" He asked, going into a defensive mood.

Abrielle was speechless at his reaction, but then how did he know she went to the club? "Are you stalking me, Alfonso?" She asked, her hands trembling. His reaction was stoic. His teasing smile was nowhere to be found.

"I am not stalking you. A lady just mentioned how you were present in the club this evening. Did something happen or did Cedric do something? He is with Callista again isn’t he?" Alfonso’s reply was quick; he didn’t think twice. He was honestly concerned.

Abrielle had left the Arena before his duel and the last time he saw her was the first day of the festival. Honestly, he was hoping to catch a glimpse of her, as pathetic as it sounded.

He knew she was avoiding him, and he knew he should stay away, but he couldn’t after watching her drown herself in alcohol. He knew something was off.

"Cedric isn’t the problem you are. Do I have to kneel to make you let me be? I guess that won’t work you will probably threaten to run your mouth about what you saw. I am tired, Alfonso," she ranted out, deliberately avoiding a statement he made. Cedric was with Callista again.

That left a bitter taste in her mouth but she guessed that since. "Unfortunately I can’t do as you wish." Alfonso chimed.

Abrielle clenched her fist, "why are you doing this? I am nothing of interest just the random wife of your brother you despite." She asked him. Alfonso went quiet, the breeze blowing between them; the night seemed to have gotten quiet.

Alfonso knew the answer but he rather not say it out loud. A smile graced his lips his stoic expression cracking. The prince walked a few steps closer just stop a foot away from her. "Let’s say I find you as a source of amusement." He chimed then leaned towards her ears, his breath tricklish and leaving goosebumps on her skin.

"I love how you shake while playing along. You make blackmailing fun." He added. Abrielle’s fingers curled into a fist

"Sick bastard." She cursed unable to hold back. Alfonso moved away. "I am not worse than your husband " he shamelessly admitted.

He was indeed having fun, that was what Abrielle thought. The question was, is that all it was to it? Alfonso having fun driving a wedge between Cedric and Abrielle.

"You will get bored" The thought of killing Alfonso was getting more pleasing by the second, only if it was that easy.

"I won’t; I can’t ever get bored of you, Abrielle." He answered, his answer was vague but he spoke the truth.

"Is there truly nothing I can do to be even? We both know you don’t care about what you think I did. How about I do something for you and end this madness?" Abrielle proposed.

Alfonso’s gaze flickered then his smile grew into something dark. "There is actually something you can do. 2 if I count. If you agree I will stop bothering you." He agreed. Abrielle’s heart skipped a beat. She was not expecting he would like the idea, but soon dread crept in. She didn’t have a good feeling about this.
