Chapter 205: poison side effects
The paper burnt into crisps in Cedric’s hands as soon as he read the last word. Evelyn was his trusted eyes and ears by Abrielle’s side. This explained why she was so busy not to reply to his letters.
He knew there was something weird about Abrielle’s relationship with Alfonso but yet he finds it hard to believe. Abrielle was aware of Alfonso’s nature, so why would she want to be entangled with his half-brother? Of all the scumbags, it just had to be Alfonso.
A dry laugh left his lips; he guessed he had to return earlier than planned to see things for himself. He was starting to think getting rid of his opposition to the throne should not wait longer.
He wanted to write back to Evelyn but he decided against it. Instead, he wrote to the king he needed answers to why his wife was attacked under the king’s roof, but no one informed him. Just the thought she was his wife did leave a burning feeling in his chest.
He got up from the desk carrying the letter in his hand as he made his way down to the dining room. Close to the stairs, he ran into the butler, who seemed to be heading up.
"I was about to invite you for dinner." The butler informed him. Cedric nodded then handed over the letter. "It should be sent to the king and also invite the warehouse managers over for an emergency meeting. There has been a change in plans." Cedric informed.

Back at Vitalis completely unaware of the storm that might be approaching her. Abrielle was making steady progress in her health and has grown used to Alfonso’s visit.
The rumours had gotten to her ears, but she was powerless to stop Alfonso from visiting, and he didn’t seem bothered. Although he didn’t come frequently like bothering her to have tea and whatever. It wasn’t like that. He mostly came in person to deliver herbs and check her condition.
She didn’t want to imagine her fate if news got to Cedric. She wasn’t an unfaithful wife, and honestly, nothing was going on between her and her brother-in-law.
Abrielle signed just thinking about the rumours was exhausting. The winter was almost over with the snow melting away and some flowers starting to appear. She was looking forward to spring in Vitalis. She wondered if it would be as magical as she described it in the book.
"Is anything wrong, Your Highness?" The physician asked, the head maid had taken great lengths to get the best female physician to look at her after Evelyn insisted it was Cedric’s preference.
The physician was a middle-aged lady whose chocolate brown hair already had a few strands of grey hair. She was reserved and knowledgeable. Surprisingly was very gentle with the princess.
"No, just tired. Will I be strong enough to participate in the spring festival?" Abrielle asked, but her health hasn’t been stable. It turned out, her body was still under high levels of stress after the miscarriage combined with the poison whose roots were mysterious.
It didn’t have an immediate antidote and she had to be treated gradually to detoxify herself. She could not use her spells well since the poison was messing with her magic veins.
The system didn’t help knowing this was a penalty for interfering with the plot greatly, but she didn’t have a choice. If Callista had gotten poisoned, it would have increased the allegations on her head.
"We are making steady progress, and there are positive results, so we can only be hopeful." The physician answered her. She then turned to Zoltana and Evelyn to relay her instructions
"Make sure she is fed properly before her medications and have enough rest. I suggest she goes out for a stroll as it will aid her recovery. We need her immune system to be at its peak." The physician emphasized the rules firmly, the same thing that had been told these past days, or was it weeks now?
She lost count of time, and to crown it all, that despicable husband of hers didn’t even send a single letter. She wasn’t going to write back to him. Abrielle was more than certain Cedric was aware of her condition and, worst of the rumours between her and Alfonso, but he didn’t care. She guessed, why would he?
They were in one of the living rooms in the castle, the one Abrielle loved using since it was in her quarters. The physician was checking her condition while Yuki was curled up on a rug relaxing next to the fireplace.
"Thank you," Abrielle chimed with a soft smile. "It is my duty, your highness. I hope you have a speedy recovery" the physician wished her before bowing slightly.
She took her leave walking through the door along with the maids. Abrielle stood up and followed behind them, she placed her ears against the door to eavesdrop on the conversation between the physician and the maids.
She had a feeling, Evelyn was controlling the information given to her. "How is her progress?" Abrielle could barely hear Evelyn’s voice.
"As I revealed she is recovering well but slowly. She just needs to work on her immune system and mood to boost her recovery." The physician’s voice followed.
"How about the other matter you mentioned? The side effects of the poison." It was Zoltana’s voice she heard this time around. Abrielle’s heart squeezed; Zoltana was in on this, too.
The physician sighed a bit hesitant to speak. "Unfortunately, I can save the princess’s life, which isn’t in danger again, but the damage has been done by the poison. Her womb was greatly affected, and it is not that she can’t get pregnant again, but her cervix was greatly damaged."
Abrielle clutched her dress; the system was so desperate to control her influence on the plot that it damaged her womb. "There is a 50 percent chance of her subsequent pregnancies to be miscarriaged..."
Abrielle’s eyes watered. Even if she couldn’t carry Cedric’s child. If by chance, she changed her fate, her chance of being a mother would be slashed down. "Oh my God," Evelyn said; she was lost at how she would share the news.
Fortunately for her, she didn’t have to worry much; the door burst open, and Abrielle stood at the entrance. "Why did you hide something so important from me?" Her voice broke in a sob.
