Chapter 160: Can’t avoid him

Jubilee’s face went pale when she saw Zoltana’s Expression change. The maid had offended Cedric. "She was dumb enough to attempt to give the prince a love potion." She clicked her tongue putting two and two together.

"This is the result of her stupidity, that being said. You will all be given a lecture about the rules, and no one will leave here until everyone gets it into their head, and as a bonus, no breakfast for everyone." Selena’s words were the law here.

"Isn’t she a new maid?" A maid close to jubilee asked her friend. "Yeah, she was hired during the autumn." The friend answered.

"That explains why she was dumb enough to do something so stupid. What does she think she is? A maid having an affair with a prince and not just any prince but Cedric. She wasn’t here to see what happened to the last one." She whispered as the conversation went on.

"She had stupid dreams, I guess, but are you not curious what the prince might look like."

"At the expense of my life. I think it will be a hard pass. I have siblings to feed, and my only brother plans on furthering his education. I can’t afford to do anything stupid. My mother is barely coping." The other chimed.

"Well, I guess he is handsome from what an old maid from the main palace told me. As a child, it was said he looked like a fragile doll prettier than even the queen." The maid’s words were so hilarious that everyone who was overhearing the conversation felt like laughing only if they knew that despite Eleanor being described as one of the best beauties in Darconia, Cedric, as a child before his features got masculine, was prettier than Eleanor.

What happened that morning was etched into all the maids mind. No one thought of resigning because the wages were way better than serving other homes.

"It will be a long journey," the maid mentions. The thought of that still made Abrielle’s mood a bit sour. Her gaze strayed back to her reflection. Her outfit was a bit interesting today. It was mainly sky blue in Colour including the coat.

The maids were gracious enough not to tighten the corset much. Zoltana’s warning still lingered in her head about avoiding using magic while in the temple because of how sharp the priest could be.

A few minutes later, after everything had been ready to set out, Abrielle could be spotted leaving the castle to the Carriage waiting for her. The entire royal family went as an envoy to the mountains and they were about to leave the island.

The weather seemed a bit colder than usual this morning, and it didn’t look like it might snow later on, but she was a hundred percent certain it would snow heavily later on. This gave her a bad feeling. Abrielle had deliberately wasted time getting ready not to join the royal family because, in the original plot, there was a storm that attacked the royal envoy.

This scattered the envoy, although no one was harmed except Ophelia, who went missing during the storm as her carriage had fallen down a cliff. Everyone thought she died except Callista, who was adamant about searching for the princess, but fortunately, before the search team found Ophelia, she had already been found by Ryker, who was visiting the temple but was hit by the same storm.

One way or the other, Ophelia accused Ryker of taking her innocence, and he was forced to wed her.

Abrielle didn’t want to be caught up in that storm of lately the plot had been a mess, and there was no assurance she would not be among the ones separated by the main crowd. Imagine being stuck on a mountain in the middle of a snowstorm.

As a bonus, she was sure Cedric had already travelled ahead meaning she would be travelling alone and away from him. She needed her space from Cedric; he had been another puzzle that she didn’t understand.

She had a fur ball in her arms and enjoyed the feeling of Abrielle petting her. Since it was a long trip she decided to take Yuki with her.

Abrielle got to the carriage and handed Yuki to Evelyn before she was assisted into the carriage. The door was pulled open, and she got into settling on the seat. Her face scrunched up as soon as her eyes fell on a particular person who was not meant to be waiting for her

Cedric was seated in the carriage, apparently waiting for her, which she didn’t appreciate one bit. He was leaning back with his eyes closed like he was taking a nap.

It had been a while since she saw him; he had been pretty busy lately, probably catching feelings for Callista. Abrielle thought; she claimed that she preferred it being that way, ignoring the slight bitter jealousy she felt.

"I thought you had already left," she blurted, stunned that he was waiting. Cedric opened his eyes, his gaze was a bit hazy. He was staring at the carriage ceiling. "So you deliberately wasted time." He stated the obvious.

"Princess Abrielle," Evelyn called out drawing Abrielle’s attention. She wanted to hand over Yuki to Abrielle.

"The cat stays out and close the door. We are already behind scheduled time. Maybe we might catch up." Cedric said sharply. There was no way Evelyn would disobey. She immediately did as instructed while Abrielle stared at Cedric, flabbergasted. What did the poor cat do to him? He was just being petty.

"What did you do that for?" She snapped at him as soon as the doors were shut. "Why are you avoiding me?" Cedric asked instead, it was subtle but he felt she was avoiding him. He had thought they had gotten a bit closer, but then again, there was this sudden distance that grew between them.

"Who said I am avoiding you?" She retorted. "Deliberately wasting over an hour to get ready fully aware of the departure time and that I was meant to leave with them. Unfortunately for you, I am riding with you."

’ Why was it so hard to fool him and why does he care?’ Abrielle clicked her tongue annoyed this was going to be a long journey.
