Chapter 156: Power from the sun

Abrielle gripped her hand as she tried to stabilize the heartbeat. She was nervous after getting a glimpse of his intense stare she should not have stared at him.

"Is anything wrong your highness?" She heard Zoltana’s voice boomed drawing her attention to the maid. "Not really. I think Cedric might have seen me ", she replied.

"So he is back," Zoltana mentioned in a fleeting moment, going back to what she was doing. She didn’t seem bothered by Cedric; Abrielle moved from the window and moved towards Zoltana, who was scribbling some strange symbols on the floor.

Her guess was correct that it was a magic circle. "How long will it take?" She asked Zoltana. "I am almost done," Zoltana said not taking her eyes off the inscriptions she was drawing on one floor.

Time seemed to have moved a bit slow; Abrielle stood idle, waiting for her to finish while hugging her arms. The attic was pretty cold since there was no heat or light there. The windows were tightly shut, but they still rattled as the cold winter breeze blew.

Zoltana finally stood up, moving a few steps away from the intricate designs. "I think that is it." She mentioned then glanced at Abrielle.

"Are you ready?" She asked the princess, who hesitantly nodded. Abrielle’s gaze was focused on the inscriptions, her lips slowly parting. "Is there anything I need to know first before proceeding?" She asked just to be safe.

"Nothing; the truth is that I might not be able to teach as your abilities and natures are different from mine, but I will be able to guide you the best I can. " Zoltana mentioned before explaining part of the procedure. It was a simple spell, Abrielle thought nothing would go on this time around.

"Let us proceed," she instructed, bringing Abrielle to the centre of the magic circle, where she sat with her legs crossed.

As soon as she sat, she felt something strange, like something was rushing through her. She drew in a deep breath to steady her breathing. "Stretch forth your hand." Zoltana requested, and Abrielle gave Zoltana her right hand.

Her palms were wide open; Zoltana picked up a dagger and then muttered something inaudible before slitting her palm with the dagger. Abrielle hissed, feeling the stinking feeling of the blade cutting into her skin. It also had a weird burning feeling.

The cut was deep, and it soon started to bleed out, dripping on the floor. Zoltana stepped out from the circle that started to glow after Abrielle’s blood dripped on it.

Soon a sudden wave of heat spiked up in the room as the glow grew stronger. Zoltana’s eyes glowed, seeing the progress. Soon, the lights died down, and Abrielle seemed to be out of breath as she tried to catch her. Her chest slowly heaved up.

The room temperature changed back to its freezing state like there was nothing amidst in the first place. "Your ability is from the sun," Zoltana said, the heat said it all.

"It is weird for someone born into the Nightshade family to have the sun attribute a stark difference from holy magic that is from the moon," Zoltana explained, Abrielle was already aware of the fact her ability was related to the sun. It was due to the fact one of her ancestors from her mother’s family is from Heliosia.

A kingdom across the sea in the neighbouring continent with equal power as Darconia. It was the only reason Darconia hadn’t evaded the continent yet.

The magic circle completely disappeared and Zoltana walked up to Abrielle to help her up. She was worried about the princess, holy magic as it was termed was not the best word to describe it

In Darconia, the source of their magic was the moon goddess worshipped by the temple and any magic not from the moon goddess Nyxoria was deemed unholy.

Of all the magic deemed to be sacrilege, the ones from the sun were worse, as the moon goddess and sun god were seen as enemies. Abrielle’s family made her a talentless fool because if her true abilities were known by the temple it might lead to her death.

Her existence was a stain on the Nightshade pure lineage. "We need to conceal it but I advise we don’t learn any strong spells until after the winter prayer to prevent the temple from knowing about your existence because even the prince would not be able to protect you from the temple," Zoltana explained with an urgent tone.

Cedric’s brows furrowed, and he felt a strange energy in the air that quickly disappeared, distracting him from the ridiculous words the maid had just said.

The maid started to strip behind Cedric before he even replied to her. He felt a headache coming, he didn’t need this at this moment. He didn’t glance at her nor touch the wine.

"This is the last chance you have left before I lose my temper. Get out and take your wine with you." Cedric’s voice was strained. It was his final warning, but the maid had more gut than he could have imagined.

She ignored the obvious warning signs, unable to let go of the golden opportunity but serve the prince. She could already feel the wealth she would get being his mistress, and she was determined to have him. She fell in love with him at first sight.

She moved closer to Cedric; her body was almost completely exposed, leaving just her last underwear. "I know the princess hasn’t been satisfying you. I am willing to..." She continued speaking with a low, seductive tone. Her hand reached out to touch Cedric’s shoulder, but before she could touch his shoulder.

Cedric turned, grabbing her arm. His hold was tight, and she was forced to gaze at his face. Her heart trembled, almost jumping out of her chest; she had never seen such a face that could only be described as perfection that she could not look aware of. "What makes you think you are qualified to please me?"
