Chapter 137: Letter from family
"But that didn’t happen," Sabrina answered. Cedric’s gaze was focused on her.
"I keep on hearing that it is best to let go when clearly, a lot of times, I am the one that keeps on getting her out of trouble. You know the truth: I need the Nightshade family; either I end up taking up the royal family or become a duke. The succession battle in Darconia is brutal. If she hadn’t gotten married to me just based on how powerful her family is, she would have ended up with another of my brothers. Her fate was to be entangled with the royal family. It’s just unfortunate she chose me."
Cedric explained Sabrina’s gaze flickered with a smile making its way to her face. "That is why it is called fate. It is ever so cruel, and yours is the cruellest Cedric. From birth, you were basically forsaken." Sabrina’s words were vague. Despite his domineering presence she didn’t fumble and said what was on her mind.
"If you can excuse me, I want to check on my niece." She mentioned, then walked away, her footsteps fading the farther she went, and soon only Cedric was left there. He straightened his back, his curiosity tugging him; Cedric walked towards the Small wooden door whose frame was lower than his head.
Bowing his head he entered the room, his gaze softened as soon as it fell on her figure that was lying on the bed. Her presence was stronger now she had been unsealed. Cedric sat by her bed, his slender fingers tucking her ginger strands behind her ears. "I have to leave. Unfortunately, I can’t stay long. Take care." A sharp breath let his lips then he placed a soft kiss on his forehead.

The horse moved slowly towards the castle; Abrielle’s eyes were glued to the window. It was a bit embarrassing. After sneaking out of the castle last night, she ended up being brought back by one of Cedric’s carriage.
She only hoped Cedric was not annoyed by the fact she snuck out. By the time she woke up, she found Evelyn waiting by her side. Evelyn didn’t ask any questions and just led her to the carriage with Zoltana.
The carriage drove into the castle gates and she was led towards her chambers. Cedric was not in but she was certain he already knew. "I will get your bath ready, Your Highness," Evelyn said, her gaze trailing from Abrielle to Zoltana.
The door was shut, and Abrielle and Zoltana were left in the room. "I hope you won’t get into trouble because of this," Abrielle mentioned. Feeling a bit guilty, she dragged Zoltana into this.
"No, I think I will be fine," Zoltana replied; till the end, Cedric hid the fact he was there. She would never understand how he thinks. "Alright then, so what is next now?" She asked concerning her powers.
"One step at a time, your ability is still unsealing and circulating in your body. We need at least a week for it to get used to our bodies. After that, we will check which element you are. Just try to rest today." Zoltana explained then took a bow before leaving the room.
A few minutes later, the maids came to get her ready for the day; her meal was served in her room. It was already noon by the time they got to the castle.
Abrielle later went to the study to continue working with Lucas as he taught her about running the household and she explained her chart method. It was like any other day. At the back of her mind, Abrielle kept on thinking about the conversation that she had with Sabrina.
She kept on telling herself it was false that she didn’t care for Cedric in any way and still had the resolve to kill him. Her mind agreed with her, but her heart was beginning to waver.
Running away was not easy when her every move was being watched. She might be a princess but it felt more like she was a prisoner.
There was a light knock on the door, drawing Abrielle’s attention from the work she was trying to focus on to the door. "I have a message for the princess," the servant’s voice rang from the other side of the door.
Abrielle nodded at Evelyn, who wasn’t too far away to attend to the door. Evelyn slowly walked away, leaving the room. A few minutes later, she came back with a letter in her hand. "Your Highness, it is a letter from the Duke and Duchess of Vesper." She informed Abrielle and her eyes sparkled.
A letter from Abrielle’s parents; she beckoned for Evelyn to bring the letter to her. After unsealing the envelope she brought out the folded paper and started reading.
Dear Abrielle,
How are you doing there? I hope things are fine by the time you get this letter. I know marriage might not be as smooth as you imagined, and the prince might not be the charming knight you imagined.
As your mother, I advise you not to push yourself even if he doesn’t love you; unfortunately, a royal marriage can’t be broken, and if things get too bad, don’t resist Cedric increasing his harem. I know you love the youngster, but I am your mother and I love you more. I don’t want anything bad to happen to you.
The main reason I am writing to you is to inform you that we plan on visiting Vitalis for the coming spring festival. Hopefully, we will reunite by then. Till when you need my help don’t fail to contact me or father. Remember, the temple is always open for you as a daughter of the nightshade.
Your cousin Sebastian Nightshade heads the temple in Vitalis; I suggest you take Cedric there for the winter prayer to bless your marriage before spring. Unfortunately, my family is far away from the capital, but I am sure Sebastian would be more than willing to help you.
Take care, my love. Hopefully, I will see you during spring.
Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Nightshade. Your mother.
Abrielle kept the letter aside; she just realized spring was coming, her parents would be on Darconia for a week, and most importantly, Callista confessed her feelings for Lucian during the spring festival. It was then Cedric realized how bad his obsession was after Lucian accepted Callista’s feelings.
