Chapter 133: Unsealing

The room was loud with music and cheerful laughter filling the air. There was a strong scent of smoke and alcohol in the room. Alex didn’t like this one bit, although he had been in places like this several times, he was surprised Abrielle was okay in this place that spelt danger.

He wondered what it was to this talentless noble daughter. The seductive lady led them through the back door that led to a private area. At the end of the hallway was a door. "Sabrina is here. She is waiting for you." The lady informed Zoltana, nodding at her, not missing a chance to wink at Alex before swinging her hips as she left.

Abrielle’s lips were pulled into a thin line as she watched the interaction between The lady and Alex. She clicked her tongue in distaste. It was not a shocker that Alex might be a flirt.

Zoltana turned towards Alex and then Abrielle, "Please let me do all the talking. My aunt has a quick temper." She instructed then opened the door.

The room was brightly lit with several candles and the thick scent of incense filled the room. "Sabrina," Zoltana called out as her eyes fell on a lady seated in a corner of the room smoking.

The room was filled with several pillows, plants and shelves. The lady Zoltana greeted had very similar features to her. She was obviously a member of the wandering clan, and from looks, she was a few years older than Zoltana. Not what Abrielle imagined Zoltana’s aunt to look like.

"You are here." Sabrina chimed, her eyes falling on Alex. "And you brought an extra person. I guess it was unavoidable." Sabrina chimed with a mischievous smile dancing on her lips.

"We need to finish as soon as possible. The princess can’t be out of the castle for long," Zoltana explained, and Sabrina nodded, slowly getting on her feet. She nodded at them beckoning them to follow her.

Sabrina walked towards the wall behind her where a shelf stood, and beside it was a tall vase. She pushed the vase of flowers to the side, then followed the creaking sounds as the shelves shook, slowly moving.

Behind it was a door, "Follow me." Sabrina instructed. She grabbed a nearby lantern hanging on the wall and opened the door using a key that was hidden in her blouse.

The door led to a long passageway, and as soon as the last person was in, the door shut behind them. Abrielle jolted due to the loud sound, her heart beating rapidly in her chest.

The passage was dark and cold, their footsteps echoed the farther the walk. It felt like walking down an endless tunnel. Abrielle didn’t ask any questions despite being curious about the passage. Everyone was silent.

Finally, towards the end, a door appeared; Sabrina opened it with the same key, walked inside and pushed it open. The air on the other side was different and humidified. It looked like an underground cave and was super cold.

"I know it’s cold, but this is the only place we can carry out the ritual," Sabrina said, hanging the lantern on the wall. Abrielle’s eyes darted around the room she stood at a spot and watched Zoltana walk towards Sabrina they started having a conversation in a language Abrielle didn’t understand

The cave was lit with several lanterns. The walls and floor had different writing and drawings Abrielle didn’t understand, and in the middle, there was an altar. Slowly her eyes fell on Alex. "Do you understand what they are saying?" She asked him, observing how keenly he was listening.

"Yes, it’s a foreign language indigenous to the wandering tribe," Alex answered; from the way his speech was reserved, he seemed like he was educated, but why was someone like him a coach driver? It was obviously fishy.

"What are they saying?" She whispered back. Alex’s dark eyes fell on Abrielle, "she is telling her to be careful that you have a heartless husband who values your head and a bunch of other things." Alex answered. Abrielle nervously laughed; Cedric did value her head, but she didn’t think he would care much if she suddenly went missing. At least an obstacle was gone.

"Can I ask you a question?" Alex drawled; Abrielle glanced at him, curious how to hear what he wanted to ask. "Sure."

"I know this might be out of place, but I am curious how royal marriages work. Do you have feelings for your husband like a fondness?" Alex asked which was strange because a commoner would never be able to ask such a question straight up to a princess.

"Why are you interested in that?"

"Just curious, I heard rumours about the infamous Abrielle Nightshade married to the tyrant prince." Alex shrugged, there was something in his tone that made Abrielle laugh.

"Feelings don’t really matter in a royal marriage. Once you say I do, you are stuck together." Abrielle gave an abstract answer. Zoltana walked up to Abrielle causing her to draw her attention to her.

"We need to get you ready; the ritual will start at midnight." Zoltana Informed Abrielle leading her away to a smaller room blocked with a wooden door. She then instructed Abrielle to change her clothes to a white garment after which she started drawing some symbols on her body while making chants.

It was a few minutes to midnight when they finished. Abrielle left the room to the main cave. Sabrina had also changed into a hideous black dress that made her look like a witch as she stood beside the altar.

At the far end, Alex stood leaning on the wall. She was surprised that he was still there to witness the ritual. "Listen to her instructions," Zoltana whispered into her ears, then urged her to walk towards Sabrina, who was beckoning to her.

Abrielle’s feet felt heavy as she took steady steps to the altar. Sabrina instructed her to lay on the altar. As soon as her back was against the hard slab, all the lights in the room went off, and an eerie cold covered the room.

Sabrina started her chants, and all the lights came back on, but they burned with a strange blue flame. Lightning struck with the symbols on the floor now in flames.
