Chapter 123: More hope and prayers
The door creaked open followed by subtle footsteps. Cedric and a few maids came into the room to drop off the food and clothes he had asked for. They were quiet so as not to wake Abrielle and dared not glance at the bed.
They quickly finished their task and then left the room. As soon as the bedroom doors were closed, Cedric leaned next to the door and listened to their footsteps, trying to eavesdrop on their conversations until they were finally out.
Lucky for the maids, they kept their mouths shut, which saved them despite having no idea about the prince’s good hearing abilities. He walked over to the bed to pull off the gold mask on his face.
It was quite tiring to always cover his face, it was a decision he took a long time ago. If Eleanor knew after attempting to scar him, it failed because of his healing abilities, she would be super pissed. Only the goddess knew what that queen would do once she got a whiff of the news. Astrid wanted to force herself on him. He never understood that girl’s obsession with his face.
He pulled off the covers on Abrielle, who curled into a ball missing the warmth around her. Nervously gulping down he quickly dressed her with the night dress sent over.
Cedric waited that night for her to wake up later, but she was too exhausted. She slept till the next morning. He could not bring himself to sleep that night.

The window rattled as a cold breeze that smelled like ice flew inside the room, putting off the fireplace. Abrielle curled into the ball, scouting over to a nearby source of warmth and cuddling it.
She was too busy enjoying her sleep she didn’t question who or what it was. The window continued to rattle; there was a snowstorm outside, and Cedric wanted to close the window to stop the wind from coming in, seeing how she was freezing and that the thick covers were not enough.
The problem was that she was clinging onto him, making it hard for him to leave the bed. He was worried she would catch a cold since she slept with her hair damp. So far she didn’t seem to have a fever. "It’s so cold." She grumbled, trying to get more comfortable.
"Why the hell did the maids leave the windows open?" Abrielle continued to complain. Cedric released a long breath before his calm voice spoke from her side. "Maybe if you stop clinging I can go close them."
Her brows furrowed hearing the annoying familiar voice at her side. She thought maybe it was a nightmare where her demons came to hunt her but soon everything came in place. Her eyes snapped open then she nervously glanced around to realize she was being overshadowed by Cedric.
Her eyes slowly met his, confusion running through them. "Cedric," she gasped as her blue eyes met his calm gold once. "Good morning, Abrielle," he answered in a usually calm tone that seemed like how a lover would greet his significant other in the morning after all the long nights. Tender and sweet. Even the way he said her name was entrancing but that wasn’t their reality.
They were anything but lovers, just two unfortunate souls in a messy marriage. Abrielle pulled her arms that were wrapped around him. She could not believe she was actually cuddling the devil. "Good morning, Cedric. " She nervously answered, trying to sit up, but she felt drained and could barely do it with much difficulty until she finally sat up, leaning against the headboard.
Her head was aching a bit, and her eyes darted around the room she recognized as Cedric’s. It was different from her light-toned room. The room was maturely decorated with royal blue and gold. The walls were dark blue in colour, giving it a mature, mysterious feel.
"Are you alright? Does it hurt that badly?" She heard him ask, his voice once again carrying that gentle tone. He quickly sat up, placing his palm on her forehead, and started streaming some of his magic that subsided the headache.
Abrielle was confused by the tone and look he had on that truly made it seem like he actually cared about her. This might be an illusion of a sort, she wondered, confused about how to face this side of him. It would be a lie if she said she hated it; her heart squeezed knowing he might flip the switch any moment from now and because of cold Cedric Von Drakkar.
Cedric was genuinely worried; he knew her injuries were serious and could only heal the ones he could see on her body. He knew she was aching inside. "I am sorry about yesterday. I didn’t mean for that to happen to lose control like that." He apologized.
His words were a reality slap on Abrielle; she remembered what happened, how Elias brought her over knowing Cedric was drugged and how she actually threw herself in his embrace because of her lustful desires.
She was indeed a slut; after swearing and promising herself the never to indulge herself in such a way, she ended up not only giving in but begging him to touch her. She didn’t remember all the details but enough to know how bad her mistake was once more.
.it explained why she was in his room and her insides felt like a mess. Abrielle subconsciously glared at Cedric because she hoped he didn’t break something. Although she didn’t plan on accidentally getting pregnant for him, but when she hopefully escapes the plot, she indeed plans on starting her own family and having children since she was stuck in this world.
Talking about children, this bastard actually released in her more than once last night. She guessed she would have to do a lot of hoping and praying. "At least you know you went overboard, but an apology won’t fix the fact it hurts," Abrielle answered; the headache had stopped, but her insides were completely sore.
"I have already asked the kitchen to prepare some soup to help with that. Breakfast would be served in my chambers to save you the stress of going downstairs in this state." He answered with that same gentle tone. She frowned lightly, wondering if it was because he felt guilty that he actually had sex with her, who wasn’t his precious Callista.
This might sound stupid but the princes haven’t realized her jealousy. "That and maybe a hot soak," Abrielle muttered to herself, a warm bath would help a lot. As soon as the words fell from her mouth, Cedric scooped her off the bed in his arms and then climbed off the bed. She panicked because she didn’t mean that she wanted to share a bath with him.
