Chapter 104: Invitation to the palace
"You can come in," Abrielle allowed the servant to come in. It was a small servant boy not over the age of 16 years old.
He walked towards Abrielle, bowed slightly as he gave her the letter, and then waited by the side waiting for Abrielle’s answer. Abrielle felt dread looking at the letter with the queen stamp on it. She knew it was something she hated.
Abrielle opened the letter, her eyes glancing through the letter, her expression changing from confusion to surprise and then wary.
"The queen is inviting me for tea tomorrow to introduce me to the other ladies in the palace." She muttered, Zoltana’s face brightened. "That’s great," she chimed. Abrielle saw this coming, things were still proceeding according to the plot.
"Please can I get a quill and paper," Abrielle requested. She needed to send a reply to the queen. Honestly, she didn’t want to go, the reason being Callista would be there amongst several other people who hated her for being married to Cedric not to forget his stepsisters
Despite not wanting to attend, she had to agree for two reasons while dreading her fate; one, it would be rude to say no to the same queen who sent assassins at her. The queen controlled the palace, the same way the king controlled the kingdom.
She could make Abrielle’s life twice as hellish as it was. Secondly, from what happened last night, she realized major events in the book would always find a way to happen. So it was better she respectfully sent a letter than for her to get on the Queen’s worst side and eventually go.
The servant presented the paper and quill to her, Abrielle picked up the quill pen from the ink and started writing on the paper. She was stunned at how lovely her handwriting was in cursive.
Your Majesty, Queen Eleanore,
I was overjoyed to receive the invitation from you, and I am more than happy that you are willing to introduce me to everyone through a lovely tea party. I heard your teas are the best, and I look forward to sharing them with the ladies while we chit-chat. Best regards.
Yours sincerely, Princess Abrielle Von Drakkar. Your daughter-in-law.
She took a last glance at the letter before handing it over to the servant boy. "Send it over to Ethan to have it stamped before delivering it to the queen." She instructed then the boy bowed before redrawing from the library.
"You seem nervous, princess," Zoltana mentioned as she couldn’t help but observe how edgy Abrielle was. "I am nervous; who isn’t when you are about to meet your mother-in-law." Abrielle answered leaving out the part...’ that wants you dead.’
"Everything would be fine; the queen won’t do anything out of line considering your family connection," Zoltana reassured her. Unknown to her, Abrielle’s least problem was the queen.
Evelyn later came with the tea and pastries, Abrielle excused her using the excuse she wanted to study and needed Zoltana since it was about other kingdoms.
Zoltana went ahead to explain the process of unsealing her abilities. Since the seal was half removed it would not take much effort. Zoltana just needed to make a potion, but the ingredients were not in the castle.
So Zoltana had to go into the capital to get them and secretly prepared. "As soon as the potion is taken, the seal will be undone, but we will have to go outside the castle’s ground," Zoltana explained.
"How are we going to leave without others knowing? Cedric has eyes on me around the clock." Abrielle voices her concerns.
"We will have to sneak out at night when everywhere is quiet. Taking the potion on the castle’s ground is a no-go zone because we have no idea the attributes of your abilities and whether it is destructive or not, and it has been suppressed since you were a newborn. Just imagine how things can be when a pressurized vessel is suddenly open." Abrielle could already imagine. Her brows still drew together.
In the original work, although the unsealing was done outside the castle grounds, there were no complications. She did understand Zoltana’s concerns but she was sure nothing would happen.
The thought of leaving these suffocating walls for a few hours did seem like a good idea. "Okay then but how would we go about it."
Zoltana smirked at her. "Leave it to me and focus on the castle. First, I would have to leave the castle to make arrangements. Once things are finalized, we will talk about leaving. " Zoltana explained and Abrielle nodded. She decided to trust Zoltana knowing how capable she was.
Cedric didn’t return the entire day til late at night which Abrielle expected. She had her meals alone and then read some books while away time; in summary, it was a boring day. He was busy trying to investigate the sorcerers and spending quality time with the love of his life.
Tonight was meant to be a special night but Abrielle was the least disturbed by the fact because she was sure Cedric would not show up even when he got back home late at night.
Tonight was meant to be their mandatory night once a week to share a bed and fulfil their marital duties. She didn’t ever want to repeat what happened in the cave again; she was sure Cedric would not show up.
The maids helped her get ready for the night, by preparing a relaxing bath filled with scented oils and rose petals. She was wearing a beautiful negligee that barely covered anything about her seductive body.
She stood in the mirror admiring her reflection; she was indeed beautiful. "We are done, Your Highness," Evelyn informed Abrielle, who slowly averted her eyes to look at Evelyn.
"Is Cedric back?" Abrielle inquired although she knew the answer. "No, the prince is not yet back from the palace, but it’s our duty to get you ready. Don’t worry he will come to the room. He has no choice." Evelyn Informed her then all the maids withdrew from the room.
Abrielle made her way to the bed, her eyes going to the window, watching the snow slowly rain from the sky. She was sure Cedric would not show up, and she didn’t want him to show up either, but why was she having this strange feeling? She slapped her cheeks, "Focus, Abrielle, this is for the best." She muttered.
