The Villain Who Stole Hearts
Chapter 138: Derek’s Fury and Killing Intent

Chapter 138: Derek’s Fury and Killing Intent

You had to understand—these so-called protagonists weren’t easy to deal with. Every single one of them wore one face in public and another in private.

They’d often get into fights with villains, and on the surface, things would look like they were being beaten down, barely holding on. The villain, thinking victory was near, would start taunting and celebrating—only for the protagonist to suddenly erupt in strength.

Veil had dealt with many of them.

Dorian Wilson was by far the weakest of the bunch. Roy and Caden Voss had at least taken Veil some time to handle. But Derek? He was on another level entirely. So far, he was the strongest protagonist Veil had encountered—his power already on par with Veil’s own.

Guys like Derek had a nasty habit: whenever they were pushed into a corner, they’d either break through on the spot or unleash some forbidden technique—burning blood, awakening potential, whatever it took—to instantly reverse the situation and kill the villain.

Sure, they’d suffer a little backlash. But give it a few days, and they’d bounce back as if nothing had happened.

Meanwhile, the villain?

Already six feet under.

Veil wasn’t arrogant enough to take that lightly. Dorian and Derek might both be "protagonists," but they were nowhere near the same league.

When it came to Derek, there could be no room for guesswork—Veil needed to know every single thing about him, inside and out.

As the new intel sank into Veil’s mind, fragments of the plotline flowed in like memories from a past life—sharp, detailed, and vividly clear.

"Derek... Seven elder sisters... Hannah..."

Veil murmured absentmindedly, the corners of his mouth twitching as a strange look crossed his face.

This script—The Seven Sisters Arc—had Derek written all over it. No surprise there. He was the designated protagonist of this arc.

And alongside him was his Fourth Senior Sister: the number one assassin on the global kill list, codenamed Mystical Star.

Compared to Blood Mandala, her combat abilities weren’t even in the same realm.

But that wasn’t what really rattled Veil.

What shook him was the realization that, in this storyline... he didn’t even need to go looking for trouble.

Because he was the final boss.

He was the one Derek would be fighting!

Stunned, Veil almost laughed aloud.

If he hadn’t unlocked the preview ahead of time, even he wouldn’t have known that back in Luxhaven City, after breaking off his engagement with Lisa, his family had gone behind his back and arranged a marriage to some absurdly powerful, devastatingly beautiful woman.

Hannah.

The eldest of the seven sisters.

And, of course, the one woman Derek loved most.

Not one of the women Derek loved.

The woman.

And now, thanks to family pressure?

She was engaged to him, Veil.

Even Veil had to admit—it was the kind of melodramatic garbage that made him want to applaud. This family of his was just... so thoughtful.

What a wonderfully chaotic situation.

Delightful.

A grin tugged at Veil’s lips as he stared into the distance, amusement dancing in his eyes.

Let’s play, then.

See who plays better.

The thrill of performance sparked to life inside him.

Drawing in a deep breath, Veil watched as Dorian Wilson’s body was carried away on a stretcher. He let out a long, somber sigh.

"You’ve already done more than enough for that kid, boss. No need to waste your breath mourning him," Kai said consolingly.

Veil smacked him lightly on the back of the head. "Who said I was mourning Dorian Wilson? He’s already dead. What’s the point of sighing now? I’m just regretting not getting a good look at that mysterious woman’s face. That body of hers—curves in all the right places, slender in all the others, and that veil? The way it hides just enough to make you want more? It’s like a thousand ants crawling across my chest."

He paused mid-sentence, leaving the rest unsaid—but the implication hung thick in the air.

Veil’s grin widened, gaze flicking toward the entrance of the collapsed mine.

At the top of one of the double doors was a tiny metallic fixture—barely noticeable. But now that he knew what to look for, it stood out just enough.

If he hadn’t unlocked the plot early, even Veil wouldn’t have guessed.

It was a listening device.

Left behind by Derek.

"Ding! Protagonist Derek has experienced an intense emotional fluctuation. Congratulations, Host—Villain Points +2000."

The system alert echoed in Veil’s mind, confirming his suspicion:

Everything he just said had been overheard by Derek.

And who was Derek?

A protagonist.

One with a kill switch for a temper, to say the least—no, more like a hair-trigger bloodlust.

The mine owner had merely been a bystander in Derek’s backstory, tangentially connected to his parents’ deaths. At most, he could be considered an accessory, not the true culprit.

Yet what did Derek do?

The moment he returned, he made the mine owner his first target—trapping him inside the shaft, then triggering explosives to collapse the tunnel, burying the owner and several executives alive.

Dead on the spot.

So now, after hearing Veil badmouth his Fourth Senior Sister—Mystical Star—there was no way Derek was going to let it slide.

Even with her standing beside him, trying to calm him down, Derek’s hatred would not be so easily extinguished.

Veil smirked coldly and raised his voice deliberately, taunting louder:

"That guy in white earlier looked like he had a real vendetta against the mine owner—like he was out for justice or something. Turns out, he’s just a psycho blinded by revenge. And poor Dorian Wilson... got himself killed in the crossfire."

He gave a theatrical sigh.

"And that gorgeous woman in the veil... hanging around that lunatic? She might be beautiful, but I’d be surprised if she doesn’t end up regretting it. If only I knew who she was—if I could find out her name. She’d be much safer with me than that nutjob."

Kai, loyal as ever, picked up on the cue instantly and jumped in with conviction. "Exactly, Young Master. I’ve been saying it—guys like that are petty and jealous. I bet he only came after us because he was afraid the veiled beauty might fall for you. He knows he can’t compete—face, power, charisma... he’s nowhere close. So what does he do? Starts a fight to draw a line. Cowardly scum. If I hadn’t been injured, I’d have dragged that lady away from him and brought her straight to you myself."

"Let’s just hope she doesn’t get fooled by him," Veil added with a solemn sigh.

Then came a string of system chimes:

"Ding! Protagonist Derek is furious. Villain Points +3000!"

"Ding! Protagonist Derek is in a rage. Villain Points +5000!"

"Ding! Protagonist Derek has developed killing intent. Villain Points +10000!"

Veil’s smirk deepened. Just a few words—and such a generous payoff.

All thanks to Derek’s personality.

Or more accurately, thanks to how well Veil understood it.

If you were going to provoke a protagonist from the Seven Sisters storyline, what better way than to target one of his precious sisters?

That was the beauty of having insider knowledge—Veil didn’t even need to lift a finger.

"Getting late. Let’s head back. Time to relax a little."

Veil stretched lazily, casting a glance at Kai’s arms. "Can you still drive? Need me to call someone?"

Kai flexed his hands with admiration. "Those pills you gave me, Young Master, are magic. I’m already halfway healed. Might not be at full strength for a fight, but driving? No problem at all."

"Good. Let’s go, then."

With that, the two left the mining site.

...

High above, in the forested ridge atop the hill—

Derek and Mystical Star stood on a thick tree branch, gazing down at the scene below.

Veil’s voice carried up to them, word for word, broadcast through a small Bluetooth speaker perched in Mystical Star’s hand.

And when Veil insulted Derek and made suggestive remarks about Mystical Star—

Crack.

Derek’s grip tightened, shattering the speaker in his palm. A faint surge of static sparked as exposed wires jolted against his skin, leaving blackened streaks across his palm.

It should’ve hurt.

It didn’t.

Derek’s expression was stone-cold. His molars clenched so hard his jaw twitched. His body trembled—not from pain, but from fury.

That bastard dared speak about his sister like that? Dared imagine stealing her away?

Even just thinking about it was grounds for death.

And Veil had said it. Out loud. Repeatedly.

"Derek, don’t get worked up," Mystical Star said softly, her voice cool and clear like springwater. She stood on a neighboring branch, shrouded in moonlight. "We should go. Something feels off tonight. An unexpected variable might’ve slipped in."

Originally, this had just been a mission to eliminate the mine’s top brass. But somehow, an innocent bystander—Dorian Wilson—had died too.

That didn’t sit well with her.

She had never missed a target before. But she’d also never killed someone outside the scope of the mission.

Something about this had changed.

She looked over at Derek, whose face was still locked in that dangerous rage.

"You want to go after Veil? Kill him to blow off steam?"

Derek lifted his head. His eyes were like frost. "Shouldn’t I? He dared to lay a finger on you with his words. That’s enough."

Mystical Star sighed. "But what if he knew we were listening? What if he wanted to provoke you? What if he planted those words, just to get a rise out of you?"

She didn’t doubt her own skills. Her bugs were elite tech.

But Veil’s delivery... it was too perfect. Every sentence, every insult, aimed directly at Derek’s nerves.

And he’d even mentioned where he was headed afterward.

"A fair point," Derek said coolly. "But so what?"

He rolled his neck, that same eerie grin creeping back onto his face.

"Whoever he is, whatever he knows—it doesn’t matter.

He had impure thoughts about you. That alone earns him a death sentence.

Even if it means walking into hell, I’ll drag him down myself."

His eyes narrowed, burning with spectral malice under the pale moonlight.

"Besides... the place Veil’s going? The club? The owner and I have unfinished business anyway. Might as well kill two birds with one stone."

Swish!

With a flick of his coat, Derek vanished into the shadows.

Mystical Star stood still, watching his silhouette disappear into the night.

The uneasy feeling in her chest only deepened.

That club Veil mentioned?

It was the exact same place Derek had planned to hit next.

What were the odds?

Was this just coincidence...?

Or something else?
