The Villain Alpha's Cursed Mate -
Chapter 94: Fix This
Chapter 94: Fix This
Naya’s face drained of color as the boy immediately pointed her out to Donovan. She had hoped to cross paths with him, but certainly not like this.
Why had he even come? She was so confident that Donovan would never show up, as he tends to be busy during this time of the day. But he was here?
"You little – stop making things up because the Alpha’s here! When did I ever threaten to hit you?" Naya snapped, her tone biting as the boy continued to glare at her defiantly. Her eyes darted towards the man before her, a desperate edge creeping into her voice.
"Don’t believe a word he says – his sister put him up to this. She told him to lie to you." Naya accused, thrusting a finger in Esme’s direction.
Donovan simply remained silent, but the hard set of jaws said more than words ever could. He was the very picture of restraint, the calm before the looming storm. With a slight tilt of his head, he turned towards the registrar, who had gone ghostly pale under his presence.
Without so much as a word of introduction, Donovan stepped closer to the table, his voice smooth but laced with a dangerous calm. "I’d like to know — how many more students are needed to meet the academy’s quota?"
His tone was coldly precise, as if daring her to lie. "Be honest with me. How many?"
The registrar immediately sprang from her seat, her head bowing in a show of respect. "Alpha," she greeted him in a shaky voice, her fingers fidgeting nervously as she felt the oppressive weight of his presence despite the composed manner in which he spoke. It was a calmness that only heightened the terror.
"Just one," she finally admitted, unable to mask her discomfort.
"One," Donovan murmured, pulling Finnian closer with a steady hand. "Then here he is. So what’s the holdup?" His voice dropped another degree, though still calm, making the tension unbearable. "You said just one, so why hasn’t he gotten the form from you yet? Surely, it shouldn’t take this long to fill a simple form, am I correct?"
He let go of Finnian, the rage he had barely managed to suppress slowly slipping with each word that left his lips. "You dare..." he began, his voice as quiet as it was deadly, "to deny entry to my mate’s brother, you dare call them names, show them disrespect?"
The registrar quaked under the weight of his question, her wide eyes flickering anxiously towards Naya, who stood motionless in her corner, paralyzed with fear.
A cruel smirk twisted Donovan’s lips as he sensed their brief exchange. "I expected foolishness, but this?"
The room seemed to freeze over, a chill settling in as Esme still reeled from the shock of his sudden arrival. Naya, who was desperate to intervene, opened her mouth to speak, but her words died when Donovan raised a single hand, commanding her silence.
He turned to Naya, whose anxiety was tangible as beads of sweat traced down her brow, betraying her fear.
"Naya," he uttered her name with pure disdain, so venomous that it filled her heart with dread. "Isn’t it enough that I’m already enduring your sad presence in the damned? Did you truly believe you could wield your father’s influence to keep him out simply because he isn’t ’noble’ enough? Tell me this, are you noble enough to even stand before me?"
His voice turned sickeningly sweet, laced with biting mockery. "Who granted you the authority to make such judgments? It certainly wasn’t me, cause I alone decide who belongs here, not some insignificant, pathetic omega like yourself."
Naya’s face burned at the sting of his words, her pride wounded, but Donovan wasn’t finished. "You’re standing in an academy that owes its very existence to me," he continued, his voice low and dangerous, like distant thunder rolling through a storm. "And you thought for a quiet moment that you could disrespect my mate and her brother without facing the consequences? Bold."
His lips twisted into a sneer. "But tragically idiotic."
His words hit her like a whip, and Naya scrambled to defend herself, trying to recover as her voice finally broke free. "I didn’t mean—"
"Which part didn’t you mean?" Donovan interrupted coldly, his tone like ice slicing through the air due to her disgusting attempt to fabricate a lie. "I’m asking you a question, Naya. Is it that you didn’t mean to show your pathetic jealousy cause Esme is everything you will never be? Or perhaps, you didn’t mean to degrade my mate’s brother for your own twisted amusement?"
He tilted his head, his tone almost playful but seething with danger. "What exactly didn’t you mean? Because I’ve already decided that you meant every word."
"Donovan—"
"It’s Alpha to you," Finnian corrected her, crossing his arms and giving her a haughty expression. Naya couldn’t believe she was being silenced by a child, and what hurt her most was the fact that she could do nothing to stop it.
The registrar’s face turned ghostly pale as Donovan neared her table. His voice was sharp, deliberate, and seething with authority. "And you," he began, each word measured. "You should have stood up and done the right thing. But instead, you showed yourself to be nothing more than a spineless coward, clutching desperately to your position. I don’t tolerate cowards."
His words tore into whatever shred of dignity she had left. As she fumbled to form an apology, he clicked his tongue in disgust, as if the mere thought of hearing her excuses would ignite his fury.
"Let’s make one thing clear; You’ve insulted the future Luna of this land. Even after being aware that she was my mate, neither of you stopped. Is this how little regard you have for me? Disrespecting my mate is equivalent to disrespecting me in return, and that is something neither of you will survive."
Donovan didn’t turn back to Naya, but he addressed her in a low, commanding voice. "Since you value your power, Naya, starting from today, you’ll be removed from any council or role that allows you to be in any position of influence. You won’t use your father’s name to intimidate others, and you are no longer allowed inside this building. Am I clear?"
Esme’s eyes widened at Donovan’s strict judgment, and Naya’s breath got caught in her throat. She shook her head in refusal.
"You... you can’t do that to me, I..."
Donovan interrupted her. "Do you prefer I ruin your entire family and strip them of every privilege they hold dear? I could see to it that your name is dragged through the same mud you so condemn, and by the time I’m done, no one will remember that you even existed. You’ll be nothing but a cautionary tale — a stain on history. Do you prefer this punishment, or the former? Make your choice."
Naya swallowed hard, her bravado completely shattered, and she did not dare say a word. He was an Alpha, and as such, he could end her life on a whim if he wanted, and no one would complain.
"And as for you," Donovan could feel the registrar’s heart thump wildly in her chest, driven by fear. "Fix this," he commanded, his words cutting through the tension like a blade through flesh. "Fix it all. There’s a reason I’m letting you walk away, and that is to make sure you don’t forget this moment. Every time you breathe in this academy, you’ll know that you’re only here because of me, because I allowed it. If it weren’t for my mercy, you’d be out there scrubbing floors for the people you so eagerly obey, people like them." he said, casting a veiled reference to Naya with a contemptuous sneer.
He snapped his fingers. "You’ll remember how you disrespected my mate, her family, and you will make amends. Start by handing the form to Finnian. I want his name on the registry the moment he finishes filling it out. You will treat him with respect, understand?"
The registrar nodded frantically, unable to meet Donovan’s gaze, even though his eyes were hidden behind a blindfold.
Naya’s eyes were filled with tears, and she stormed out of the registrar’s office, unable to conceal her tears as she ran off.
The registrar handed Finnian the last form, and he happily received it. She immediately tried to play coy by rising from her seat and entering a certain room connected to her office. She stepped out a few minutes later with the shadowbrook’s uniform, handing it to Finnian.
Finnian had finished filling the form by then, and he gave it back to the woman.
"You can resume tomorrow if you’re ready, and you can get your books when you arrive." She said, and Esme tried to bite back a smile at her sudden display of kindness.
"Thank you, let’s go Finn." Esme placed a hand on his shoulder, and she glanced at Donovan who was still waiting for them. "You too, Donovan."
