Chapter 72: A Night At The Tavern
Chapter 72: A Night At The Tavern
Annalise sat in front of the mirror as she combed through the wet tangles of her hair. She had just taken a bath and now she had to handle the mess of her hair on her own which made her miss Sera even more than before.
They had stopped at a tavern for the night as it wasn’t safe for them to continue traveling in the darkness considering they were in the middle of nowhere. There was no town or villages anywhere near the tavern but only wilderness.
She was aware that her husbands only took the break because of her. If it had been only three of them, they would probably have continued with their journey throughout the night too.
A sudden knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts and as she turned her head to look at the door, she found Kenric entering the room with a simple black cloak draped over his shoulders, the only thing that was hiding most of his chiseled upper body from the observing sights of others.
She couldn’t help but peek at the beautiful body that he was both trying and also so not trying to hide.
"You remember that we only got two rooms, right?" He asked as he closed the door and made his way to where she was sitting in front of the mirror positioned on a table beside the huge bed.
Annalise nodded her head in affirmative. When they arrived at the tavern an hour or so ago, they only managed to get two rooms big rooms as there were a lot of people stopping by for the night.
"So, you won’t mind sharing your room with me. Would you?" Kenric asked as he came to crouch down in front of her, their gazes colliding and making her take in a deep breath as she felt herself being surrounded by him and his strong presence.
He arched his eyebrows in question when she didn’t answer his question for a while, and it made her hurriedly nod her head.
A small smile bloomed on his lips as he raised his hand and ran his fingers through her long curls.
At first, Annalise didn’t notice what he was doing but then she felt a sense of soft heat sizzling through her scalp, and when she looked at his fingers that were still running through her curls, she noticed that her hair was no longer wet.
"Thank you." She appreciated the help and she didn’t wait to let him know that.
"Anytime, Little Bird," Kenric said as he smiled warmly at her before standing up and moving closer to the bed.
Annalise also stood up after setting the comb back on the mirror table before she followed behind her husband. Her heart was racing just s little bit faster than usual as she couldn’t stop herself from feeling a little bit anticipating.
"What are you thinking about, Little Bird?" He suddenly asked as he turned to face her, his eyes boring deep into hers. "The look in your eyes is suggesting me too many things."
Annalise felt her cheeks warming up and she hurriedly tried to walk away from the man who was purposely teasing her. However, she wasn’t that lucky with her escape plan as Kenric caught her arm and pulled her into his arms.
"You can’t run away from me, beautiful. Since you are mine, I’ll always find you no matter what." His voice was a mere whisper but it held the power of sucking out her breath as she stared at him in shock. The slight possessiveness in his tone was both surprising and alluring to her.
"Kenric." His name left her lips in a similar whisper as his.
His lips twitched in a small smile, and then he kissed her. His soft lips were gentle against hers, creating a fire inside her from the energy of his sparks and his touches. His hand that was wrapped around her pulled her body closer to him, almost making their bodies press against each other.
A moan slipped through Annalise’s lips as she let herself drown in the pleasure that he introduced her to. His tongue was just as skillful as usual, making its way into her mouth and taking charge while introducing her to the games of the adult world.
She was so lost in the kiss that she completely missed the sound of the door opening and the person who entered the room. It was only when she felt his familiar presence behind her that she noticed that she was no longer alone with Kenric in their temporary bedroom.
Kenric finally ended the kiss and pulled his face away to look straight into her eyes, and at the same time, she felt a pair of strong hands moving around her waist from behind before she felt a hard body coming to rest against her back.
"Oh, looks like I forgot to tell you that we both will be sharing this room with you tonight. What do you think of our plan?" Kenric’s voice was full of teasing intents as he looked at her with his eyebrows arched higher.
Before Annalise could have spoken, the man behind her replied to Kenric. "Stop teasing her. It’s getting late and we will be setting out early in the morning. Let’s get some sleep first as we have a long journey ahead."
Kenric let out a small frustrated sigh but stepped away to give more space to her and settled down on the edge of the bed. He locked his eyes once again with hers as he spoke, "My wait doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon, but I don’t mind waiting because I know that you are worth it."
Annalise couldn’t deny that warmth filled her and her heart fluttered at his words. But then she was made to turn around to face her other husband.
"Go and get some sleep. Kenric will stay here with you and I’ll be in the next room with Damian. Have a nice sleep." Valerius placed a soft kiss on her forehead before he gave a warning look to Kenric and then eventually left the room.
