Chapter 70: The Dark Lords and Their Magical Cores
Annalise watched as the castle disappeared from her vision behind the huge trees that were growing all over the mountain. It was finally the morning when she was leaving her new home with her husbands to travel to a faraway place.
"Are you that sad about leaving the castle and your servants?" Kenric asked as he brought his horse closer to the window of the carriage from where she had been gazing at the outside view.
Even though there was a sad expression covering her face, she still shook her head slowly in response to his question which made him shake his head as a smile bloomed on his lips. "We will return within a month, Little Bird. Besides, you still have time to change your mind about coming with us. None of us will blame you if you decided to stay here."
The question was barely out of his mouth before Annalise was already shaking her head hurriedly without wasting even a single second. She indeed felt bad about leaving the castle and the others behind but even that couldn’t change her mind about following her husbands on their journey.
This time, it wasn’t just a smile but a beautiful chuckle from her husband that greeted her in response, and it somehow made her relax too.
"Don’t think too much. This one month will pass just in a link and you won’t even realize it. Besides, we have decided to introduce you to all the fun things and new experiences along the way as it’s your first time outside the capital. You won’t be left alone, one of us will always be by your side. And we have heard that Lakeshire is a really marvelous town."
The said Lakeshire town was located at the border of the Seelie Empire and it was one of those few places in the empire that had natural magical portals that opened into the mortal realm.
From all that Annalise had learned or heard about that town, it was said to be one of the most beautiful and prosperous towns of the empire. And while she was still not aware of exactly why her husbands had planned to visit that place all of a sudden, she was still looking forward to seeing the popular town with her very own eyes.
The only problem was that the town was located at the western border of the Seelie Empire and it would take them days to get there but only if they didnt encounter any mishaps or bad weather on their way.
Considering it was the middle of the year, rain and bad weather could be expected but not too frequently, and in case they were lucky enough, they would survive without getting caught in the middle of any rain, though Annalise doubted the latter.
Kenric had returned his attention to the road ahead and their surroundings. From what she understood from her husbands’ conversation with her the previous night when they explained to her a little bit about the journey, she got to find out how the three of them worked as a team all the time, especially when they were traveling.
Valerius was the leader, his powers allowed him to connect with nature and seek the right, safest, and shortest path that would lead to their destination. Kenric was the tracker, he was the one who used his powers to track their surroundings and find any threats. And Damian, he was the warrior inside and out. He was the one who took care of any unexpected circumstances and unwanted visits from the predators always lurking in the shadows.
And based on their works, the three Dark Lords had taken their position around her carriage. valerius was in the front as he led them down the mountain and away from the capital city. Kenric was riding beside her on his horse, keeping an eye on their surroundings while also keeping her company. As for Damian, he was in the back riding his black horse.
"You hold the fire magical core. Right?" She suddenly found herself asking as she looked at Kenric who too was now looking at her. He didn’t seem surprised by her question but his expression wasn’t that easy for her to read, to begin with.
"What made you conclude that?" He asked in return instead of answering her question directly.
Annalise remained silent for a couple of seconds as she collected her thoughts before finally answering, "That’s exactly what I feel or experience every time we interact. There’s always the feeling of heat, fire, and sparks, and while some of these sensations are similar to what I feel with others, I can tell that there’s a huge difference. Besides, your personality is that of fire - passionate, wild, powerful, eternal, and... destruction."
"Anything else?" Kenric pressed when he noticed that she was contemplating whether to say the next word or not.
Annalise opened and closed her mouth a couple of times as she was still not sure whether she would say that last word or not, but then decided to do it - "Lust."
This time, the look that Kenric gave her made it pretty clear that he was more impressed with her answer than mad. "No one ever described me like that, but I like it. And you are right, fire is the essence of my magical core and my first element, but my powers aren’t limited to only fire magic."
She nodded her head in understanding as she had already concluded that much after seeing him using various spells, not all of them carried fire magic. Her eyes traveled to the front and even though she couldn’t see Valerius, she knew that he was listening to their conversation. "He has ice magical core." It wasn’t a question because she was already sure about it, especially ever since their bond was formed.
"And what does he represent?" Kenric asked curiously.
Annalise once again found her eyes looking in the direction of the front of the carriage as the words left her mouth, "Coldness, Indifference, absence of love, and... death."
