Chapter 56: Are You Pregnant?

"Mother?" Annalise found her mother sitting beside her on the bed when she finally opened her eyes after coming out of her slumber.

Her head ached slightly as she tried to move and a hiss escaped her lips immediately.

"Here, let me help you." Her mother and Sera were immediately there to help her and with a little bit of effort, she finally managed to move into a sitting position.

"How are you feeling now?" Her mother asked, worry clearly evident on her face.

Annalise shook her head slightly but immediately regretted the action as pain shot across her temples. The ’I’m fine’ that she was initially going to say in reply got changed into - "definitely suffering from a headache, but it’s not that severe."

Her mother turned to look at Sera as she spoke, "Go and get a glass of warm milk for your lady."

Sera left immediately, leaving Annalise and her mother alone in the room. "Now can you tell me exactly what happened? The Lords suddenly rushed here in panic and didn’t allow any of us to enter. Only now did they allow me to meet you." Her mother was definitely worried sick about her.

Annalise let out a small sigh as she took hold of her mother’s hands before speaking, "It’s nothing serious, mother. I was on my way back after showing Lord Damian the way to this room, but I suddenly felt dizzy and ended up losing consciousness. Other than this little headache, I’m feeling almost fine."

Her mother looked at her with suspicion-filled eyes for a few moments before she finally spoke, "Annalise, honey... are you pregnant...?"

"Huh?"

Annalise was at a complete loss as she stared at her mother with wide eyes. "No!" She hurriedly shouted almost in a panic. "No, no... Of course, not!"

Her mother hurriedly patted her hands in order to calm her down. "It’s alright, dear. I was just asking, you don’t have to feel shy. If not today, then you will get pregnant later at some point. I’ll be really looking forward to hearing the happy news."

Annalise felt her cheeks burning as embarrassment took full control over her. She just buried her face in her hands as she tried to hide.

Her mother just chuckled in response as she patted Annalise’s arms before pulling her hands away to look at her face as she spoke, "Fine, I won’t tease you anymore. But you have to look after yourself, honey. Don’t over-exhaust yourself and make us worry about you."

Annalise hurriedly nodded her head in agreement as she didn’t want her mother to worry about her.

Sera returned right at that point with a glass of warm milk that Annalise finished in just a couple of moments.

"You should rest a little bit more, I’ll come to get you for the evening tea." Her mother advised her before she and Sera left the room to allow her to rest.

Annalise spent the afternoon taking a much-needed nap and when she finally woke up an hour before evening, the headache was finally gone and she was feeling normal.

Her mother came to get her for the evening tea just like she promised and she finally got to meet her husbands. While Kenric and Valerius treated her like nothing happened, Damian mostly avoided her as if she didn’t even exist.

They had the evening tea together with her parents before they finally took their leave to head back to the cursed castle.

"You should have stayed the night here. We don’t even know when will we get a chance to have dinner with you all." Her mother almost looked like she was struggling to keep her emotions in check as she held Annalise’s hands in her own and talked to her husbands.

"Mother, please forgive us for not being able to stay the night. But we have really important work scheduled for the coming morning, we need to return to the castle now." Valerius was the one to speak as he bowed his head in apology.

"It’s alright, Lord Valerius. It’s not your fault. My wife is just getting emotional because she won’t be able to spend more time with Annalise." The Duke spoke as he signaled his wife to let go of Annalise.

Her mother made a sad face but eventually, let go of the hands that she had been holding for so long. "Take care of yourself and your husbands. Be a good girl and fulfill all your responsibilities." Her mother advised.

Annalise nodded her head in understanding before she finally took her leave, bidding her father and mother goodbye before she climbed into the carriage and watched her husbands talking to her parents about something for a few minutes before they too moved to mount their horses.

The Grand Duke’s mansion started disappearing from her sight as the carriage strode towards the road leading out of the capital city.

She sat inside the carriage all alone and since she finally had enough time to think her thoughts were filled with nothing else but the day’s incident with Damian.

She recalled her conversation with the second Dark Lord and immediately felt get head buzzing as the accusations he stormed at her rang loudly in her ears.

Her memories eventually moved to the energy attack that caused her to lose her consciousness and she tried to recall exactly what made her pass out.

All that she could recall was the powerful force that knocked her down out of the blue. The very first possible guess was undoubtedly none other than Lord Damian but a voice inside her head told her that it couldn’t be him. There was still a part of her that trusted him enough not to do something insane enough to actually hurt her.

"Even though I didn’t like the way that man acted towards you today, I can assure you that he indeed has nothing to do with the force that knocked you out." A very familiar voice spoke all of a sudden.
