Chapter 365: Spending a Night in Flames (Part One)

Valerius stood in front of his dear wife who was looking at him with her soft eyes that always filled his entire being with warmth and never-ending love. Taking a step forward, he pulled her into his arms and squeezed her into his embrace while inhaling her scent as he nuzzled his face into the crook of her neck.

"Don’t worry about here. I promise I will do my best to prepare everyone to the best of their ability for this war. Just go and do your part of the duty with tension tension-free mind. Okay?" She held a soft but assuring smile on her lips as she spoke to him while pulling away from the hug.

He tucked in a loose strand of hair behind her ear before he nodded his head in understanding. "I know that you will. Take care of yourself, love. We will see each other soon." He placed a kiss on her forehead before turning his attention toward his brothers.

Damien and Kenric stepped forward and each of the two hugged him tightly one after the other before stepping back.

"Take care of her tonight. This might be the only peaceful night you will have with her for a while. Also, do your best for your assigned tasks." He said while giving their shoulders a little squeeze.

"Don’t worry. We won’t disappoint." Kenric promised with a bright smile and it was enough to disperse Valerius’ worries.

"Alright. I should take my leave now." He announced while looking over the three people he loved the most and just as he was about to step away, his wife caught his arm to stop him.

Turning to face her, he found her small doe-like ocean-blue eyes looking at him with so much emotions that he felt the sudden urge to give up on everything and just spend every single moment with his mate. But he knew that he couldn’t do that. He needed to leave, for her, for his family, for their future, and for the future of their people.

Pulling her into his arms, he kissed her as tenderly as he did when he tasted her lips for the very first-time months ago. He held her like the most cherished person she was for him and his mouth moved against hers in a silent confession.

After a few moments, he reluctantly ended the kiss. With a final lingering kiss on her forehead, he pulled away from her and teleported away immediately without saying another word.

"Come here." Kenric led Annalise toward his bedchamber in the basement of the castle. Their fingers were intertwined tightly as they walked side by side. "You should stop worrying about anything at all for tonight. Just focus on getting as much sleep and rest as possible tonight."

They just stepped down the last step of the stairs when Annalise stopped in her tracks and turned to face her husband. "I don’t want to sleep or rest... yet."

Kenric arched his eyebrows high in question and asked curiously, "Then what do you want to do?"

Instead of using words to answer his question, she stepped closer and rose on her toes before sealing his lips with her own in a kiss that ended just as quickly as it started.

She raised one of her hands to trail her fingers down his cheek and whispered - "This is what I want."

She felt his body going rigid for one beat, two, and then he spun them impossibly fast, putting her back against the door of his bed-chamber, jostling the frame. He captured her wrists in one hand and held them prisoner above her head.

"Little Bird," Kenric groaned against her mouth. The plea in his tone flooded her veins with a whole different form of power.

Annalise felt a rush through her body as she realized that he was just as affected by their attraction and desire as she was.

"This isn’t what you want. Not tonight. You should rest. Me and Damien will be right here, by your side." The hesitation was just as clear in his tone as the desire he was feeling.

"It’s exactly what I want. You... here... with me," Annalise countered. She wanted to replace the anxiety with lust, the worry of the war with the pulse-pounding assurance of her own life, and she knew her husbands were the only ones capable of delivering all that and more.

"Didn’t you say that you will be here for me? Then do that, be here for me, Kenric." She whispered the words and arched her back, pressing the tips of her breasts against his chest.

His breathing changed, and there’s a war in his eyes. The sensible part of him wanted her to rest and recharge her energy before the arrival of the long, tiring days that were coming with the sunrise in a couple of hours. However, at the very same time, he was having a hard time resisting the temptation that she was.

He leaned down, his mouth only inches from hers. "And I’m telling you that I’m the last thing you need right now. You need to rest and relax, Little Bird. " The barely leashed growl of his voice rumbled up through his chest, and every nerve ending in Annalise’s body flared to life.

"Let me tell you, My Lord, if you didn’t stop talking and kiss me right now, I will go and make sure that Damien will satisfy me." Annalise’s heart raced as she chanced pushing him little bit more to make him gave in to her request.

"Stars, woman." The unmistakable flare of challenge narrowed his eyes for a heartbeat before his hips pinned her to the door, and her instant relief at his response was replaced by a jolt of pure desire.

She could see his infamous control hovering on the very edge, balancing precariously on the point of a knife. All he needed was one. Little. Push. And she was about to shamelessly shove.

"Or maybe all three of us can have a good time." She whispered while tilting her head up to his and drew his bottom lip between hers, sucking before gently nipping him with her teeth. "Though you want to believe otherwise, the truth is that I need both of you with me tonight."

The words breached something within him, and he gave in.

Their mouths collided, and the kiss was hot and hard and completely out of their control. The two of them were inside the bed-chamber within a blink and instead of the bed, he walked them toward a desk placed against the nearby wall. As he settled her on the top of the desk, Annalise’s ankles fell from the small of his back when he leaned over her, spearing his fingers through her long platinum-blue locks at the nape of her neck as he took her mouth again.

Annalise kissed him back with the hunger that was coursing through every single cell in her body. Her hands flew back to brace her weight, knocking anything and everything out of her way, sending whatever careening to the floor.

"You asked for this, Little Bird. You better not complain later on. I’m going to drive. You. To. The. Edge. Tonight." He punctuated each word with a kiss along her jaw, making his way to her ear. He bit the lobe, causing a moan to slip past Annalise’s slightly parted lips.
