The Veil of Darkness
Chapter 361: Infinite Powers

Chapter 361: Infinite Powers

Annalise stared wide-eyed at the five men standing in front of her while her brain tried its best to process the information she just received.

It wasn’t like she hadn’t known about this particular detail of the history of weapons considering the amount of study she had done on them in the past few months, but she was just so focused on finishing the test and passing it that she barely paid any attention to other things.

"So..."

She tried to speak but she was at a complete loss for words. In the end, she just remained silent while looking at her husbands for help.

Damien was the first one to approach her and he immediately wrapped one of his arms around her shoulders. "Don’t panic, Princess. Though the result was shocking, it was not really unexpected. We did have some hope, that’s why we gave you this trial in the first place. What you just did, is true magic. Accept it with happiness and use it as your strength."

His voice was soft and comforting, providing Annalise with the support she was looking for. She nodded her head in understanding before turning to face Esmeray - "Should I try the same with the other four?"

Though she didn’t specify what she was talking about in particular, it was still enough for everyone to understand.

"Don’t overuse your powers, child, or the energy depletion will leave you completely drained." Elder Elaron warned in a concerned tone.

Annalise hurriedly nodded her head as she clearly understood the reason behind Elder Elaron’s worry. At the same time, she quickly added - "Don’t worry, Elder, I haven’t depleted much of my powers yet. I’m sure I can give the other four weapons a try right now."

Elder Elaron still looked slightly worried but he decided to believe Annalise’s understanding of her own powers. "Alright. Try it if you want." With a single flick of his wrist, he brought all the four remaining weapons out from the illusionary room and presented them to Annalise.

She immediately took control over them, her air element keeping them levitating in the thin air right in front of her. Someone spoke from behind her, advising her to heal only one weapon at a time, but it was already too late.

Annalise spread her arms, making the four weapons to spread as well while the fifth one flew out of Elder Elaron’s hands and joined the others, finding its place in the centre of the four just like she wanted. The staff worked as a conduit, joining all five weapons together before combining them with her light magic.

As the five weapons floated in the air, the room began to resonate with an otherworldly energy.

Annalise’s mind raced to maintain control over the elements swirling around her, feeling the weight of their combined power surging through her veins. Each weapon carried the base of a different elemental magic, making it slightly hard for her to balance her powers amid several pulls she was feeling from the weapons. The staff pulsated, its iridescent light intertwining with the essence of each weapon. A sense of purpose and unity enveloped her, compelling her to delve deeper into her magic.

The Midnight Princes, Esmeray, and Elder Elaron stood in awe, witnessing the intricate dance of elements. The air seemed to hum with anticipation as Annalise channeled her focus into each weapon one by one. With delicate precision, she funneled her energy into the first weapon, an ancient sword with a hilt engraved with ancient fae runes. A soft glow emanated from its surface as she mended its fractures and rejuvenated its dulled blade.

The room trembled slightly, responding to the surge of elemental power that flowed from Annalise’s outstretched hands. Each of the five men watched with bated breath, their trust in her unwavering as she continued her work, moving on to the second weapon, a gleaming shield etched with symbols of protection. Its dented surface smoothed out, and its defensive enchantments rekindled under her light magic.

Valerius offered silent encouragement, his eyes reflecting the mix of emotions he felt for Annalise. Pride, respect, and a sense of shared responsibility colored his expression as Annalise’s energy cascaded into the third weapon—a slender bow adorned with intricate carvings. Its string, frayed and worn, was mended, and the wood seemed to regain its original luster, resonating with the promise of accuracy and swiftness.

Elder Elaron observed with a mix of caution and wonder, his gaze fixed on Annalise as she focused on the fourth weapon, a set of throwing knives decorated with a pattern of stars. Their edges sharpened, and their balance restored, the knives exuded a faint aura of agility and precision as they hovered in the air, awaiting their role in the imminent union of powers.

Amidst the convergence of energies, the fifth and final weapon, the staff that Annalise had already mended during her trial, pulsed with its own ethereal radiance.

Annalise’s hands trembled slightly as she extended her light magic toward the weapons, sealing the last fragments of their scarred past. As her power intertwined with the weapons’ ancient aura, a surge of unity coursed through them, weaving an intricate tapestry of magic that transcended their previous limits.

The room filled with a resounding harmony as the weapons glowed with renewed vitality. A soft breeze encircled Annalise, a manifestation of her affinity with the elements, as she drew upon the foundational essence of each weapon. Their individual powers intertwined seamlessly, creating a symphony of strength and resilience that resonated within her very being.

A burst of blinding light erupted from the weapons, coalescing into a radiant sphere that encapsulated Annalise. Her silhouette flickered within the brilliance, her form suffused with the raw potential of the combined elements. She felt an overwhelming surge of empowerment coursing through her, a sense of purpose that transcended her doubts and fears.

Within the luminous sphere, memories of her arduous training, her unwavering dedication, and her unyielding spirit coalesced into a singular resolve. The intertwining forces of the elements swirled around her, weaving an intricate web of protection and fortitude. With a steady breath, she opened her eyes, the irises gleaming with an iridescent light that mirrored the brilliance of the combined powers.

As the radiance subsided, the five weapons gently settled into the outstretched palms of the five men. The room fell into a reverent silence, each member of the gathering sharing in the profound significance of the moment.

Elder Elaron stepped forward, his eyes filled with a mixture of pride as he carefully assessed the bow in his hands. "You have accomplished what many thought impossible, Annalise. You have united the elements in a way that honors the legacy of the true magic. Maybe we all have been wrong about the limit of your powers. At this point, only you can decide what’s your limit, because as far as I can see, your connection with the light element is not only strong but also infinite."

"Elder is right, your magic seems limitless at this point." Damien added as he finished assessing the staff in his hands.

"Unfortunately..." Esmeray was the next one to speak as he placed the shield on a nearby table before his gaze found them and he continued, "... we don’t have enough time to explore the actual limit of your magic. So, all we can do now is to make the best out of the little time we have on our hands and the knowledge we all hold."

Everytime someone mentioned the fact that their time limit was getting short with each passing day, Annalise felt the pressure on her shoulders becoming heavier. There was indeed no doubt that she was improving rapidly because of the continuous training and learning, but she was also aware that learning something and practicing the same in real life were two entirely different things.

"We can organize a simple trial tomorrow to let these weapons choose their new masters. What do you all think?" Kenric proposed, changing the topic as if he sensed her nervousness. The comforting nod that he gave her confirmed the doubt.

"That sounds like a good idea. Let’s do it." Damien added his approval.

"Annalise, let’s take a break now. We will continue with the trials after lunch." Esmeray notified and his tone made it pretty clear that he wasn’t giving her the option to reject or oppose.

"Okay." Annalise immediately nodded her head in acceptance. Though she didn’t feel too tired, she knew that she couldn’t keep pushing way too much. That’s why, taking a break was the best choice.

She followed all five men to the cozy dining room of the castle to enjoy the lunch.
