Chapter 339: A Stolen Moment (Part One)

It was another late winter night and the year was approaching its end within less than a week.

The world outside was shrouded in a qiet, serene stillness, with a blanket of fresh snow covering the landscape. The air was crisp and cold. The moon, when visible, casted a pale, silvery glow on the snow, illuminating the world with an ethereal light.

The trees, stripped of their leaves, stood like skeletal sentinels against the night sky. The stars twinkled overhead, their brilliance magnified by the cold, clear air.

In that moment it felt like a time when the world seemed to slow down, as if nature itself was taking a deep breath beforethe arrival of the beautiful season of spring.

Annalise was sitting on the warm velvet rug that was covering the floor in one of the corners of the huge library of the castle. She had a cup of warm herbal tea in her hands while a soft but warm blanket was covering her legs as she gazed at the outside view from the huge window.

After a really long time, she had found this peaceful moment to enjoy. Everyone seemed to have retired to their rooms aftr an early dinner and while her initial plan was to sleep early and rest for couple of extra hours, she was unable to fall asleep and ended up here in the library.

She heard footsteps of a very familiar person stepping inside the library before heading in her direction. In less than half a minute, the Autumn prince was staning right in front of her with a beautiful smile on his lips.

"Look who’s hiding in here? Can I join?" His teasing tone teased her and made her soul yearn for his company even more than ever.

Without wasting any time, Annalise hurriedly scooted in a corner to make more than enough space for her husband next to her.

Kenric took off his boots before he settled down next to her and covered his legs with the blanket before wraping one of his arms around her as he pulled her closer to his body.

Annalise immediately melted against him. She had missed him, his company, his body, his warmth, and everything about him. She had missed thecomapny of all her husbands.

Valerius was in the Midnight Realm at the moment as he was the one taking most of the burn of the daily council meetings. She could also feel Damien’s presence in the basement, the Shadow Prince had been working on something mysterious the past couple of days along with Kenric. That’s why Kenric’s sudden appearance surprised Annalise but she wasn’t complaining at all.

"Why are you here all alone? Can not sleep?" Kenric asked while pulling Annalise out of the world of her thoughts.

Inhaling the sweet aroma of the tea before taking a small sip, Annalise finally responded a moment later - "Maybe my body is now used to sleeping at late hours."

Kenric didn’t say anything immediately but his hold on her sholder tightened slightly, almost like a reassurance.

"I know that we have not been paying you enough attention these days. We all are just too busy with one thing or another. We are being the worst mates possible..."

"Sssh...!"

Annalise silenced Kenric way before he could continue his guilty confession. It wasn’t like they were avoiding her on purpose or anything. They had no reason for feeling guilty.

"I’m not blaming any of you. It’s not like I’m not aware of our current situation. Though I do miss our time together, I also understand that we don’t have that kind of luxury now." She meant what she said and Kenric realized that too.

The Autumn Prince gazed into her ocean-blue eyes as he whispered the words - "Since we have succeeded to find this private moment after all this time, let me make up for my absence then."

Annalise’s breath hitched in her throat as she realized what he was implying. Both her body and soul reacted immediately at the proposal, thriving with anticipation of what the night could lead too. Slowly but eagerly, she nodded her head in approval.

As he gazed into his mate’s beautiful eyes that were looking back at him with so much love, he realized how badly he wanted to kiss her in that moment. His soul and body were craving her and so was his heart.

They all had been too occupied recently to even share a nice moment together. They started the day early in the morning and worked tirelessly throughout the day, exchanging only little conversations here and there, before returning to castle on their respective time to eat dinner and then sleep.

Even at nights, they had been barely able to join her in hhe bed. It had been over a week since he last held her in his arms and when he finally had her in his arms now, he wasn’t ready to let go.

He leaned a little closer to her. Her eyes followed his every move. Her body language was definitely...receptive. Her scent didn’t betray any hesitation. She needed him just as much as he needed her.

He felt her pulse quicken as he leaned down and finally kissed her, something that they hadn’t done for a while.

She let out a little sigh like she’d been wanting him to kiss her since forever. That sigh turned him on as much as anything ever had. He kissed her softly but firmly, and didn’t linger, in case she tried to stop him. But she didn’t. She slipped a hand around him, under my blanket.

"Kenric..."

He held her closer with one arm while he tangled his hand in her hair as he deepened the kiss.

Stars! He had been wanting to feel her like this. Taste her like this. He could smell her skin. He could smell her blood.

He could tell that she was perfectly ready to complete their bond. Unfortunately, the current situation didn’t allow them to enjoy such happiness as they didn’t have either the happy environment or ample time for the ceremony, and he didn’t want to destroy her last chance at enjoying her wedding/mating ceremony.

So, for now, he was going to give her the one thing that he knew won’t disappoint her and would satisfy her.
