Chapter 329: Attack on Annalise (Part Two)

Annalise felt the masked man’s hold loosening on her hand and the very next second, she found herself wrapped in the very familiar and warm embrace of Valerius as the Winter Prince teleported her to the other side of the garden.

She felt his palm coming to rest over her injured hand and then his ice magic seeped inside her skin to heal her. In barely any time, the pain was completely gone and her hand was back to normal.

Annalise tried to step out of his arms and look for others but she was stopped by the Winter Prince who pushed her head back to rest against his chest as he whispered, "Don’t look."

With a single little nod, she complied with his order, keeping her face pressed against his chest while her ears listened to the clash of weapons and cries of men somewhere behind her.

It took around five-ten minutes before all the sounds disappeared and the area became dead silent. Other than Valerius’ heartbeats, Annalise couldn’t hear anything, but she did feel the presence of Damien and Kenric as both the men made their way toward her and Valerius.

The Winter Prince let her go the very moment two pairs of hands pulled Annalise into a hug. She was sandwiched between the bodies of Kenric and Damien as both the men took their time to calm their souls and make their worries go away about her safety.

Not having any idea what to do, Annalise whispered softly the first words that came into her mind - "I’m okay now. I’m safe and with the three of you."

She was surprised when Kenric suddenly pulled away from the hug and took hold of her shoulders almost in a harsh grip as he pointed out in not so sweet and calm voice - "Did you see what happened? This was why we couldn’t let you go anywhere without our protection. Despite our requests to accompany you, you kept refusing and this is how things ended. What if we would have been late? What if they hurt you?"

"Kenric!"

Annalise’s voice came out alarmed and just a little bit filled with anger that was more than enough to stop the Autumn Prince from uttering a single more word.

"I didn’t want any of this to happen either. If you all had good thoughts behind accompanying me all the time then I also had my reasons to make you all focus on other important matters that needed your attention. I didn’t ask for this. So, please... don’t you dare blame me."

Her words seemed to have hit home because the man was shaking his head almost immediately. "No... no... Little Bird. I’m not blaming you. I’m just... I’m just scared..."

"We are just scared of anything bad happening to you, Princess. I will apologize on Kenric’s behalf if his words made you feel sad." Damien added as he moved to stand next to his brother. His eyes had returned to their normal shade but they seemed too distant to have any sort of emotion in them.

Annalise’s gaze shifted between all three of her husbands and she let out a deep sigh. "Can we return to the inn? I don’t want to stay here anymore."

"Sure. We can leave right now. If you want, we can even return to the castle." Valerius offered but Annalise quickly shook her head to reject the idea. She didn’t want to ruin the next morning’s plan of the meal with Marley’s family.

"It’s alright. We will return to the Inn for now." Valerius said as he once again pulled out the fur cloak from thin air and draped it across Annalise’s shoulders to keep her warm.

"Thank you," Annalise whispered as she entangled her fingers with Kenric’s when she noticed that the Autumn Prince had gone completely silent after her little outburst. It was like her touch was all he needed because his body relaxed almost immediately.

"Also, one of you will need to inform the Dragon King and the rest of the rulers about tonight’s incident. It’s not a small matter that despite such strong security, these men were still able to make their way not only inside the Sky Kingdom but also here in the Sky Palace." She reminded her husbands and they all seemed to agree with her.

"Then I’ll stay here and inform everyone. Damien and Kenric will take you back to the Inn and stay with you. Alright?" He made sure to ask for her permission, worried that she might need him.

Annalise felt reluctant to let him go but she knew that he was the best one to handle the matter. "Can you promise to come back to me soon?" She asked while reaching out for him with her other hand.

Valerius was quick to take hold of her hand as he hurriedly nodded his head in the affirmative. "I promise. I will be back in no time." His promise was accompanied by a temple kiss that almost tempted Annalise to just bury herself in his embrace but she held herself back and watched as Valerius walked away from her and headed inside the palace.

Damien had been closely reading her and as he noticed her sad expression, he immediately offered - "If you want, I can change places with Valerius. I will take care of informing everyone about the incident and he can accompany you..."

"Don’t!" Annalise quickly rejected his idea. "Stay with me... Please."

Damien nodded his head before he walked closer and pulled her into his arms. "It’s alright, Princess. I’m not going anywhere. Both me and Kenric will stay with you."

As if to support his brother’s promise, Kenric gave a tight little squeeze to her fingers and Annalise returned the warmth that he provided her with.

She didn’t make any effort to see what happened to the masked men if they were lying dead on the ground or had already disintegrated into thin air. She just wanted to be away from the place.

The three of them immediately teleported away and returned to the Inn, leaving behind the night that turned from beautiful to deadly pale.
