The Veil of Darkness
Chapter 319: Art of Teleportation

Chapter 319: Art of Teleportation

The bright morning sunlight brought Annalise out of her deep sleep and back into the real world. She had to blink several times before her eyes got adjusted to the brightness.

"What’s with the sudden sunny weather?" She asked the only man who was still present in the bed beside her.

"It’s the castle." Kenric answered as he helped her to move to a sitting position before pulling her back to rest against his bare chest.

Annalise let out a sigh as she relaxed into her mate’s arms while her eyes took in the beauty of the white vines that were glistening under the bright sunlight.

"Where are Valerius and Damien? They are gone so early." She wondered out allowed as her hand found its way to Kenric’s arm that was wrapped around her torso, and she started trailing her fingers along his veins.

"Damien is helping Mr. Warren in the stable. Because of the cold, the horses were having a hard time. And Valerius is helping Garron to put on a protection spell around the vegetable garden to save it from the cold. It was so cold around an hour or so ago, but then the castle suddenly changed the weather to a sunny day." Kenric explained as he watched her playing with his hands.

Annalise nodded her head in understanding as she moved her fingers to interwine with Kenric’s. "Maybe it’s a good sign." She whispered while looking up and once again gazing outside the window.

Kenric didn’t respond with words but instead, he planted a sweet kiss on top of her shoulder before his lips made their way over to the side of her neck and eventually reaching her ear.

His warm breath fanned her ear as he whispered, "As long as you are here with us, everything is a good sign for me, Little Bird."

Despite the cheesiness in his words, Annalise knew that he was sincere about what he was saying. A warm smile bloomed on her lips as she turned her face to look at him and planted a kiss on his lips.

The two of them spent some more time together, just sitting in silence while wrapped in each other’s warmth, before they finally dressed up and went downstairs to join everyone for breakfast.

Since the castle had made the day joyful with the change in the weather, everyone decided to take a break from their daily routines and enjoy the day.

So, the servants sat up carpets and pillows outside in the garden with fresh tea and lots of snacks while everyone moved there to enjoy the sunlight.

For once, they all spent a day away from the cold and worries that had become a part of their daily lives.

Chapter Seven: Mastering Teleportation

It was another chilly winter morning as Annalise made her way through the empty hallway of Cursed Castle and entered the Secret Realm. The air held a sense of anticipation as she navigated the familiar paths toward Esmeray’s home. The streets and corridors seemed to stretch on endlessly, but determination fueled her steps.

As she finally reached Esmeray’s house, she found the door slightly ajar, ajar as if welcoming her presence. As if he knew she was there, which he obviously did considering he was the one who called her for another training session.

Inside, she was greeted with an unexpected sight —Ascher weaving intricate patterns of light to form a magical hologram in the center of the living room. The ethereal display pulsed with energy, casting a soft glow on the surroundings. However, Esmeray was conspicuously absent.

As Annalise puzzled over Esmeray’s absence and was almost about to enquire about his whereabouts from Ascher, his voice resonated from the shadows, weaving through the air as he materialized right before her. The darkness seemed to part, revealing his figure in all its enigmatic glory. His eyes gleamed with an otherworldly wisdom, holding within them the promise of ancient knowledge.

"Welcome, Annalise," Esmeray’s voice was both warm and cold, if that could even be possible. "Hope you are ready for today’s session."

"What are we doing today?" Annalise asked curiously as her gaze once again found its way to Ascher who was almost done with the hologram.

"Today, I shall teach you a spell of great power—teleportation."

Annalise’s heart raced with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Teleportation—the ability to traverse vast distances instantaneously—was a concept she had only dreamt of.

She listened intently as Esmeray explained the hologram’s purpose—to anchor her within the void during teleportation, preventing disorientation and lost time. It was there to make sure that she won’t be lost in the blank space that existed between any two places.

Teleportation was almost like portals, just limited to some extent, making it slightly inferior compared to the latter.

"As you embark on this journey, remember that teleportation is a rare and formidable skill," Esmeray’s voice carried a weight of responsibility. "Only a few can truly master it, as it demands a profound connection with the very fabric of reality."

He continued to explain that since teleportation was one of the most powerful spells to exist just like spells for healing, portal creating, dream and ward creating and so on, there were very few people who could master it and even then, the distance they could travel through teleportation was limited by their level of magical powers.

Esmeray himself had the ability to travel through one Realm to another through teleportation since he was so powerful. There was no place in the four realms where he couldn’t go.

Ascher, his concentration unbroken, continued to infuse the hologram with his elemental energy. "Teleportation is akin to weaving threads of existence together," Esmeray added. "Like all powerful spells, it requires finesse and focus."

With every word, Annalise felt her eagerness grow.

Esmeray guided her through each step, his patience unwavering. He taught her every little detail as he gave his all while teaching her the spell.

Instead of making her learn the spell and try it immediately, Esmeray made her sit down on the floor in lotus position with her eyes closed, while he showed her the patterns of the spell through whatever weird magical bond the two of them shared with each other.

He made Annalise memorize every pattern of the magical threads of the spell and asked her to continuously weave and unweave them. Only after certain long hours of constant practice, did he allow her to actually try the spell.

Against Annalise’s expectations, she completely failed her first and second attempt, while the third one ended her up in a closet located at the farthest end of the hallway.

Feeling unhappy, she was ready to take a break but Esmeray didn’t allow her even a second of rest.

The training was intense, pushing her to her limits as she stumbled through the intricate dance of magic. Mistakes were made, frustrations met, but with every failure, she felt a fire burning within her—a determination to succeed.

She continued practicing for hours, failing several times and showing improvements at others.

As the sun climbed higher in the sky, Annalise’s proficiency improved. The raw energy of the spell began to respond to her will, and the hologram’s glow flickered in time with her progress.

Esmeray’s guidance was unyielding, his words a steady stream of encouragement and wisdom. And as the afternoon sun cast long shadows through the windows, Esmeray called a halt to their training.

"You may not realize it but you have done a really great job today. It took me a month to remaster teleportation when I first gained my human form, but looking at your progress, I think you will be able to do it in a couple of days. I’m looking forward to see just how powerful your teleportation ability is going to be." Esmeray spoke as he followed her to the entrance of the house.

Annalise wasn’t sure how to respond to that information, so she just remained silent.

Physical and mental exhaustion enveloped her, a testament to the intensity of her efforts. The magical exertions had also taken a toll, leaving her drained of her powers.

She hurriedly Esmeray and Ascher farewell, a mixture of gratitude and weariness in her eyes, and retreated to her chamber.

Alone in the quiet sanctuary of her room, Annalise reflected on the day’s events. The vision of the hologram and Esmeray’s patient guidance were etched into her mind. She could feel the potential within her, waiting to be unlocked. As she lay on her bed, eyes heavy with fatigue, a sense of achievement mingled with the promise of what lay ahead—a world of limitless possibilities through the art of teleportation.
