Chapter 269: The City Of Towers
Chapter 269: The City Of Towers
"Is this the place?" Annalise asked her husbands as her curious gaze took in the tall towers at the distance surrounded with colorful lights but somehow still succeeded in appearing dark and gloomy for some reason.
She could tell that the place was just perfect for dark witches to live in seclusion and away from the worries and bustle of the rest of the world.
"We are definitely at the right place," Damien stated in response to her question as his gaze also scanned the towers looming in the distance as well as the area around it, reminding Annalise in the process that he was always the one responsible for making sure that they weren’t in the middle of any dangers.
"Do you think we will get an easy pass into their territory or is it going to be a little bit hard to get inside?" Kenric put forward the thought that suddenly popped up in his mind.
Annalise turned her attention toward Valerius standing right beside her as she too looked forward to the answer and it came almost immediately. "This is still a part of Midnight Realm. Our status will allow us a smooth entrance and exit but whether we can make the witches agree to help us we’ll only depend on our preparation and luck." Valerius told them as he waved one of his hands and the four horses, that they had used for traveling, disappeared into thin air.
"Meaning it’s all up to you now. We are here just to enjoy the scenery." Kenric commented in his usual carefree tone.
"How about instead of wasting time you try to use this chance to learn something useful?" Valerius offered as he gave Kenric a very unimpressed look.
"Don’t be ridiculous, brother. You know I’m not born for such boring things. Just let me live peacefully." Kenric replied dramatically and even surprised Annalise with his little wink at the end of his sentence.
"Just forget about wasting your time on this brat. We should get going." Damien reminded Valerius before he took hold of Annalise’s hand and started walking toward the small city of witches in front of them.
"Hey! Whom are you calling a brat?" Kenric sounded really offended as he nearly chased after Damien but stopped when Valerius gave him a stern look.
When the four of them reached the city gate, the huge iron gates opened on their own as the wards surrounding the city made an opening to let them walk into the city.
The moment they stepped inside, all four of them experienced the sizzling energy of the magical ward washing over them.
"It’s one hell of a powerful ward here," Damien muttered while shaking his body as if he was trying to shake off the leftover sensations of the ward’s magic.
"Why does this place look almost abandoned?" Annalise asked as her eyes searched for the presence of any living being in her surroundings but found no one at all. "Where’s everyone?"
"They are here," said Valerius in response, making Annalise turn to follow the direction of his gaze and found herself looking at a group of women, dressed in all black, making their way toward them.
Their dark magic was so strong that even from such a distance, Annalise felt shivers running down her spine as her own powers recoiled deep inside her.
She immediately felt an arm wrapping around her shoulders and she gave a grateful smile to Kenric as he moved to stand right next to her with his arm protectively wrapped around her.
Recently, she had noticed just how aware her husbands were of her feelings and it was probably because of their bonds that had gotten powerful over the past couple of months. Their little gestures of assurance to always show her that they would be there with her no matter what, really meant a lot to her.
Her attention returned to the witches as their group came to stand at a little distance from where she and her husbands were standing. To her surprise, the witches actually bowed and greeted - "Your Highnesses..."
Valerius gave a little nod of his head in acknowledgment of their courtesy. "We apologize for our unannounced visit. We are here to meet with your leader."
Annalise expected the witches to at least spare a quick look among themselves but she was surprised when they immediately agreed without a second thought.
"Please, this way."
Annalise and her husbands followed the group of witches deeper into the city and after walking for three or so minutes before they came to stand in front of a huge tower.
As they stepped inside the tower, the cold air hit everyone along with the heavy presence of dark magic.
They walked for a couple of more moments before the witches finally brought them to a dimly lit room. As they stepped inside, Annalise recognized the presence of something/someone immensely powerful inside way before her gaze found the source of such powerful dark magic.
A woman was sitting on a chair at a round wooden table with a magical globe sitting in its every center. There were cards, herbs, bottles of options, and whatnot filling the table. As for the woman, she was dressed in all black with her long black curls left open.
"Master, the guests are here." One of the witches informed the woman at the table.
The woman finally responded as she stood up and turned to look in their direction. With a single signal from her hand, she sent all the other witches away before she finally turned her attention toward her guests, and with a solemn look on her face, she spoke - "Please take your seats, My Lords... and My Lady."
Annalise followed her husbands and the four of them settled down on the chairs that suddenly appeared out of nowhere around the wooden table.
"May I ask why the Midnight Princes and the Princess of Seelie Empire suddenly decided to pay this old which a visit?" The witch asked as she clicked her fingers and a tray with kettle and cups appeared on the table. With another click of her fingers, plates of sweet snacks also appeared beside the first tray.
