Chapter 239: Whisper Of A Name

Chapter 239: Whisper Of A Name

Annalise stared at Esme in surprise after what he just ordered her to do.

"Now. "His voice was booming with not only his commanding tone but also a weird sort of energy that almost made her feel like doing exactly what he was asking despite her own instincts that were telling her that it was not a good idea at all.

She found herself turning back to face the cloud-like wall and her eyes took in the contrast between the light clouds far deeper inside the wall while pure dark clouds were surrounding it heavily from the outside.

She almost took a step closer to the said wall of light and dark clouds when she suddenly returned to reality and stopped in her tracks before she could have stepped any further closer to it.

"No!"She exclaimed in shock as the realization of what she was about to do suddenly dawned over her and she turned to glare at the man."I’m not going to anything like that."

Esme stared at her in silence for a while before he suddenly started walking toward her and once again it took every bit of power inside Annalise to not step back and keep space from the dangerous man.

He stopped right in front of her, standing close enough to invade the bubble of her personal space. His hand moved to take hold of her chin between his thumb and forefingers and made her look up at his face as he spoke - " Unfortunately, you are too weak in your current state and that means..."

She watched with wide eyes as he brought his face closer to hers and his mask almost grazed her cheek as he placed his mouth next to her ear and whispered, "... you are nowhere near the level of either ignoring or rejecting my orders."

His hold on her chin almost tightened to a painful level as he whispered the last part - "Now go and do as I have ordered. Place your palms against the ward and tell me exactly

what you will see."

Till that point, Annalise was ready to once again reject his completely ridiculous order. However, as soon as his last words entered her system, she felt all the fight and reluctance leaving her body. Instead, she felt like she only needed to follow his order at all costs.

A voice inside her head seemed to be trying to remind her of something really important that she seemed to have forgotten all of a sudden but her entire brain and body were only thinking about doing what she was just told to do.

She turned her head to look at the masked man standing next to her and he immediately signaled toward the wall of clouds as if to remind her of his order.

She nodded her head in understanding before returning her attention to the wall. She started walking toward it, her steps faster and bigger as if she was not the least bit concerned about whatever was waiting for her in that thing of mixed clouds.

Just in a couple of blinks, she was standing right in front of the wall and she almost felt her entire body shivering at the closeness of dark energy that was surrounding the wall. A part of her felt like the moment she would touch the wall, that darkness would jump right on her and devour her.

This thought would have freaked her out on a normal day but not today and not at the moment as she didn’t feel the slightest bit of reluctance in raising her palms and placing them against the cloud-like things.

It all started with the softest of profiling feelings in her palm as the darkness started surrounding her hands and it seemed to even move over her arms and head toward her shoulders. Soon enough, it was surrounding her entire body and profiling sensations turned a little painful but this time, it wasn’t only limited to her palms as her entire body was now feeling it.

A whimper got stuck in her throat as she suddenly felt a weird sort of pull on her, one that came from very deep in the walls... it came from the light.

Before she could have even taken the time to understand what was going on, she felt her entire body getting pulled into a bizarre whirlpool that sent scene after scene of a very familiar yet so very unfamiliar place in front of her eyes.

She found herself looking past barren lands, dead trees, and destroyed houses. There were dead forests, silent mountains, and frozen rivers and lakes. The animals and birds had turned into beasts of darkness that roamed across the dead lands that once used to be filled with the most beautiful energy of life.

A painful cry escaped through her lips as tears rolled down her eyes but in her hazed state, she couldn’t tell if it was because of what she wa seeing or because of the immense pain that was shaking her entire body from the inside out.

She felt her hands giving way right as her body reached a point where it could no longer bear the pain that darkness was causing her. Right before her eyes shut closed, she saw herself breaking through a very powerful and ancient ward across the barren lands and mountains and rivers... and found herself looking at a grand palace built of white marble and rare stones.

Greenery surrounded from all around but still, there were no animals, birds, or any living being seen anywhere throughout the place. Despite appearing different from the rest of the dead realm, it was no better.

She was on the very verge of losing her consciousness as even her throat was dry and hoarse after all the shrieks that she had let out because of the pain, she felt another tug pulling her closer to that palace, one way greater and more powerful than before.

She heard someone or something whispering a name... a name that was not hers!
