Chapter 229: Magic & Spells (Part One)

Annalise was expecting to get some rest during the remaining afternoon after returning home from the Royal Palace but as soon as she and the others were done with their lunch, Valerius took her straight to the library.

"Can’t I rest for a while?" She asked him while making as cute of a face as she could but soon realized that her attempts at being cute won’t do much good in her favor.

"Today is the day we decided to arrange for your magic training and since we were busy during the entire morning, we need to utilize this time and get your training started without wasting any time. Don’t even think about skipping this class." Valerius stated as he moved to hang his white robe over a chair before he headed toward where she was standing clueless.

He reached her and took her hands in his and Annalise couldn’t help but notice just how good his cold skin felt against her warmth. His slender fingers trailed over hers and it took everything inside her to suppress the shiver that threatened to shake her entire body.

"We will start with a simple spell and analyze your control over it before slowly moving to harder spells. You will do much better in this class unlike combat training as you already know how to cast spells and use your magic." He told her as he entangled their fingers together and looked into her eyes.

"Okay."

It would be a lie to say that her entire attention was on his plan and not on the fact that her body and soul were feeling alive because of his nearness and the feeling of his elements surrounding her.

"Pay attention, Annalise," Valerius advised while pulling her out of her lustful thoughts as if he was well aware of the direction of her thoughts.

Annalise cleared her throat more for getting enough time for clearing her mind and the awkward and embarrassing feeling of getting caught before she slowly nodded her head and pointed her full attention to whatever Valerius had in mind for their first magic training class.

"Are you ready then?" The first dark lord asked as he tightened his fingers lightly over hers as if to get her attention.

"Yes."

"Can you see the candles sitting around this area?" Valerius asked and Annalise’s gaze immediately shifted around to see all the half-melted and some new candles that were arranged around the library. Once she had taken a proper look, she nodded her head in response to his question.

He slowly lowered his hands and stepped back a couple of steps from her, making her feel his absence almost immediately. "Focus your attention on one of these many candles, whichever pulls you toward itself the most. Make sure to remember its exact structure and place.." He instructed from where he was standing a couple of steps away from her.

Annalise took in a deep breath before she slowly allowed her eyes to scan the candles and tried to do exactly as she was instructed. She found a particular candle that seemed to stand out among the others for some reason and tried to fit its image and location in her brain.

"Ready?" This time, his voice was suddenly right next to her ear and he was standing right beside her which made her entire focus drift away from the candle.

"Y-yes...!" She somehow muttered out the words as she stared up into the beautiful dazzling eyes of her husband and just by looking into those orbs, she had a very strong feeling that he was playing some sort of game with her, one that he was leading by high scores so far.

"Then close your eyes," Valerius instructed next as one of his hands came to rest against her elbow in the softest of touches and he moved his face enough that she was able to feel the coldness of his breath hitting her cheek.

Annalise felt her throat becoming dry as her mind started wandering all over the place while she was having trouble keeping herself focused on the important task she had in her hands. Taking another deep breath, she closed her eyes just like she was instructed to do.

"Now, recall that candle and think of it as clearly as you can." He instructed further as he finally stepped back from her but not before placing the softest of kisses on the very corner of her lips. It was barely a touch of his lips against her skin but still powerful enough to leave sparks flying all across her body.

Instead of opening her eyes to look for him like her heart, soul, body, and mind wanted, she tried to focus her attention on the candle and somehow felt her mind listening to her for once. She recalled the candle and its position that she tried to engrave in her mind and was delighted when she succeeded.

"Now, concentrate on it and imagine it lightning up on its own." Valerius continued to give instructions and his latest one almost made Annalise pop her eyes open to look at him in question. She was no fire element holder and creating fire from nothing was something that only fire users could do despite how simple it sounded to light up a mere candle.

Someone like her with such an amount of powers inside her could easily manipulate fire to a certain level which could be considered good enough for someone without fire as her element but even for that, she needed the presence of an abundant amount of fire - like from a fireplace, from dozens and dozens of candles, from a bonfire or something similar to their level. But creating fire from absolutely nothing - was something only a fire elemental could do.

Still, despite all her confusion with Valeriys’ instructions, she remained silent and decided to follow his words as she knew better than to question his ideas and knowledge. She focused on the tip of the thread of the candle and imagined it lightning up...!
