Chapter 199: A Chat while sitting on Balustrades
Leaving the library, Annalise headed downstairs while Kenric decided to spend some time surfing through the long shelves of books to see exactly what sort of wonders the library was holding inside it.
She was contemplating what to do next and exactly when and how to summon the little snow lion when she suddenly met a very excited Pristine waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs.
"You are finally alone." The fairy chirped happily as she took hold of one of Annalise’s hands and started swinging it like a small kid.
Seeing her cheesy behavior, Annalise couldn’t help but question the woman’s motive. "What’s up with you today?" She asked while trying to get her hand out of the fairy’s hold but her attempt was in vain as Pristine was in no mood of letting go of her hand any time soon.
"There are so many things that I need to talk to you about. But let’s first find a proper place to talk because this definitely ain’t one of those." The fairy responded with just as excitement in her tone as was plastered on her face before she started dragging Annalise toward a certain direction that led to one of those portions of the ground floor of the castle that anyone hardly visited unless they had to clean that area to keep the castle well-maintained.
After all the time that Annalise and her staff had spent cleaning the castle and renovating it, the castle now no longer looked like an abandoned place and actually gave the vibe of the residence of the famous Dark Lords. Not only that but the castle was no longer giving them trouble by destroying all their efforts. The weather of the castle was perfect and matched the one from the outside world.
"Why this area? This is one of the most abandoned..." Annalise didn’t even finish her sentence before she was hit with the realization of why the fairy was taking her to that particular area to talk to her. Being one of the least visited areas of the castle, it would be the safest place for them to talk without anyone finding out about the fairy’s existence.
They reached the end of the long hallway and Pristine pulled her to sit on one of the balustrades of the corridor that connected with the pavilion built at its other end. This was her second time in that corridor and also the exact place where she first met Pristine.
"It’s been so long... I mean at least over two and a half months, are you still not comfortable about telling others about your existence? I’m sure everyone will welcome you happily as a new member of our little family." Annalise suggested more than asking the question as she took her seat on the balustrade with her back pressed against one of the many pillars creating the entire corridor.
Pristine didn’t answer immediately and the glow on her face dimmed slightly but didn’t disappear entirely. She just appeared lost for a couple of moments before she slightly shook her head as if getting rid of some thoughts before she suddenly spoke, "So, what were we talking about?"
It was a clear signal that she was not interested in talking about the matter that Annalise just opened for discussion but her trick didn’t happen as Annalise just face her with a look of question mark. She was not planning to let the topic go that easily unless it was the only option left for her to do.
Pristine let out a deep sigh as she too realized that she won’t be getting away from answering tge question that easily. She once again some more minutes in deep silence and Annalise didn’t pressure her either to speak too quickly.
The two of them sat there in silence for a while as the fairy was lost in her thoughts while Annalise tried to take in the beauty of her surrounding. Since it was one of those areas of the castle that she had barely explored, she was not familiar with the structures or the natural beauty present around and as she took a look around, she couldn’t help but realize just how peaceful the place was.
She wanted to ask Pristine if there was a particular reason behind the solemness of the area but she restrained herself because she knew that asking that question would give the fairy a perfect out of the hard situation she was currently stuck into.
A couple of more minutes in long silence passed, and Pristine finally gave up and spoke but it was not the answer that Annalise was waiting patiently to hear. "You aren’t giving up, are you?" The fairy asked.
Annalise shrugged her shoulders as she replied honestly, "I just want to know why?" She turned her full attention to the woman and saw her nodding her head in response to her reply.
"Then I’ll be honest with you." Pristine spoke softly before she continued, "I’m not afraid about whether I’ll be welcomed or not..."
Another silence followed but it only lasted for a couple of seconds as the fairy let out another deep sigh before continuing, "... I’m actually afraid about getting attached to the people living here... and then being abandoned again all of a sudden without any choices left in my hands other than to stay here all alone and see my home deteriorating with time."
She suddenly turned her face to look directly into Annalise’s eyes while speaking, "Though deep down, I can feel that you won’t probably leave me like the previous owners but after such a long time and so many years of constant regrets, I can no longer make myself trust anyone. I only came to meet you in person because I couldn’t help myself but that’s the farthest I can make myself go right now."
Annalise wasn’t sure exactly how she was supposed to react in that situation but she did the first thing that came into her mind. She stood up and went to hug the fairy because the latter needed it really badly.
