Chapter 196: You Are Not Alone
"I’m not sure how good I’m at my theory but what if that energy was actually the light energy and it just lost control when it tasted her blood?" Kenric put forward his opinion and looked at his brothers to see what their reactions were.
While Annalise looked somewhat confused about tge sudden mention of ’light energy’, Valerius and Damien actually seemed to be thinking about the possibility of Kenric’s hypothesis.
"This does kind of make sense but what about the fact that the energy is trying to keep us from seeing her memory of the incident?" Damien questioned after he was done thinking about his younger brother’s theory.
"Maybe because of our identity as dark as?" Kenric suggested again and it seemed like his words once again made good sense in context to the entire scenario as both his brothers nodded their heads slightly in acceptance of his theory.
"Wait!" Valerius suddenly spoke as if he was suddenly hit by a sudden realization. He looked between both his brothers as he stated, "Did you both just skip the part where she told us about the tree being black? That’s not the color of light."
Realization seemed to dawn over both Kenric and Damien, the former even looking a little bit embarrassed for not paying attention to such grave information.
"My Lords, I’m still here. Can you all please explain to me something about what you all are talking about?" Annalise finally spoke up when she realized that the three men were almost on their way to having their own private conversation.
The men immediately turned their attention to her and the serious looks on their faces only made her more curious about their entire conversation. What really piqued her attention was the words ’light energy’ that they just mentioned.
While Damien and Kenric chose to remain silent, Valerius was the one who spoke in response, "Nevermind since it’s not a possibility here."
"But..." Annalise was about to protest for being left in the dark but got stopped when Valerius shook his head and signaled her to not persuade the matter any longer.
"I know that you are curious about something in particular and I promise that I’ll explain it to you about it sometime soon in the future but right now is not the time. We have a bigger and much more serious problem on our hands to take care of at the moment, let’s focus on it for now."
Annalise felt quite bad do not being able to learn more about what their conversation was about but at the same time, she did understand where he was coming from. She should really be focusing on more important matters at the moment instead of finding out more secrets that had been kept hidden from her. Besides, there was a lot that she hadn’t taken of yet from the past, that’s why she should really be staying away from learning about more revelations.
"What are we going to do now? We have come to a dead end once again." There was a complaining tone in her voice but it couldn’t be helped considering the number of times they had reached a dead end while looking into a particular matter. It seemed to be happening every time they decided to search into a specific matter.
Damien squeezed her hands lightly that he still had been holding in a small move of assurance. But it was actually Valerius who answered as the man took hold of her chin between his thumb and forefinger before turning her head to make her face him. "You don’t have to worry, Annalise. As long as the three of us are here with you, we will always find a way through. Just be patient and trust us."
Annalise nodded her head as she felt her entire soul filling with warmth despite his main element being none other than ice. "I do trust you all and that’s exactly why I still haven’t given up yet. And I know that as long as I will have the three of you by my side, I’m never alone."
"There you go, good girl!" Kenric praised her as he moved forward and placed a kiss on her temple before wrapping both his arms around her waist and pressing his body against her back.
The four of them sat there in a comfortable silence, basking in each other’s warmth and love before they finally stood up to get ready to start the day.
Valerius left the castle right after breakfast as he informed her about meeting an old friend who could help them with the issue of her dream-like incident. On the other hand, Kenric decided to follow Annalise into the library along with Leela, Ezra, and the Crown Prince so that they all could continue their search.
At the same time, Damien and Marley headed to the backyard as the former wanted to stretch his muscles.
"Have you gotten any closer to the spell after searching for it throughout the past week?" Kenric asked Annalise as his eyes searched through the long rows of the bookshelves, a place he hardly ever visited even though he had spent over four centuries living in the castle.
Annalise shook her head in negative as a disappointed sigh escaped her lips. She, Leela, and Valerius ahd almost looked through all the related history books and scrolls that might give them any idea about the spell that could connect her to the little snow’s memories of the night of the attack but so far, they got nothing.
"Are you sure such a spell even exists?" Kenric suddenly asked the question that Valerius ahd already raised once during their search. While she dismissed the latter’s question almost immediately, hearing the same question from another one of her husbands made her pause.
"What do you mean?" She asked while sliding the scroll back onto the shelf as she turned her entire attention to her husband.
Kenric remained silent for a couple of seconds but then he finally spoke, "Do you really trust your familiar?"
