The Veil of Darkness
Chapter 185: A Secret Spell

Chapter 185: A Secret Spell

"Master, what are you doing?" Ascher asked in pure confusion as he watched his master doing some very weird things with a bunch of sticks, leaves, and little stones. If he didn’t know better, he would have considered his master a lunatic because of how weird and senseless he used to behave sometimes.

Esmeray stopped building the stone house that he had been working on for hours and spared a quick look in Ascher’s direction before responding, "How about you leave me alone for a while?"

"Yes, Master!" Ascher quickly replied as he stood straight in attention position with a determined look on his face which changed just a second before he was actually about to leave. "Wait, I must apologize for disobeying but I can’t fulfill your command, Master, I can’t leave you alone. I’m your only disciple who has taken the oath to stay by your side, protect you with my life, and never leave you alone ever."

A long sigh escaped Esmeray’s lips as he just shook his head and returned his attention to his work. To others, it might seem like he was being a fool assembling sticks, dry leaves, and stones, and all, while he created the structure of a castle, but in reality, he was doing something way crazier than anyone could expect even in their wildest dreams.

"Master, are we going to stay here forever? These people haven’t left the castle for a week and we haven’t thought of anything to enter this place. How are we going to get close to that woman of yours? Why are you not thinking of some ideas?" Ascher just couldn’t stop himself from asking another question just to irritate his master. It was nothing less than a miracle that he had survived for so long beside his master with such a pestering attitude.

For once, Esmeray didn’t sigh or got irritated with his question and just replied simply, "Who told you that I’m not thinking of something? I’m already halfway done with my plan."

Ascher was stunned into silence as he stared at his master’s back in total surprise and tried to think exactly what he missed to not know that his master was thinking of an idea and was already half done with it. His gaze shifted to the structure that his master was creating on the ground and then he turned his head to look at the castle standing at a distance.

"Master, are you casting a spell?" He already knew the answer even though his words came out as a question. He kept glancing between the castle and his master’s structure. Seeing how the rings on his master’s fingers were glowing, he was definitely casting a very powerful spell.

A smile stretched on Esmeray’s lips as he spoke, "You aren’t that stupid." That sounded like a compliment but Ascher knew better than to become happy because of those few words that sounded good to his ear.

"Master, what if the presence of light here will end up retaliating against your powers? You will possibly get seriously injured." There was suddenly a hint of worry in Ascher’s voice as the thought suddenly popped into his mind.

Esmeray didn’t reply immediately as he focused on building the castle’s structure, it was only several long moments of silence had passed when he finally decided to speak, "Have you forgotten who your master is and what is his relationship with the light energy?"

Ascher opened his mouth to respond but then closed it as there was nothing for him to say. His master had already dismissed his worries while putting forward his identity and his connection with the light energy, considering these two huge points, he was just reminded that his master was the last person whom the light would ever hurt.

Letting out a small sigh, he decided to remain silent and let his master finish the spell that was going to connect him with the castle and the beings living inside it. Once the spell would settle in its place, they would surely be able to slip inside the castle without any problems.

The soft and cool morning breeze greeted Annalise when someone removed the blanket from her face and left her bare shoulders and collarbone vulnerable to the cold.

It was nearly the beginning of fall and the weather was taking a turn for the better as the super hot days were already behind and all that was left were tge beautiful days of the fall season that Annalise loved the most.

She blinked her eyes and it took a couple of seconds for them to adjust to the brightness that was filling the room. What surprised her was the person who was responsible for waking her up. Of all tge people she was expecting to see, Pristine was not one of them.

Her gaze hurriedly moved to the side as she searched for Damien but found the bed empty.

"He just left a couple of minutes ago after gazing at your sleeping face fondly for nearly hours. Though I have no idea exactly what you did to those dark faes in the past one and a half months but they are surely head over heels in love with you." Pristine provided the information when she noticed Annalise’s gaze shifting around the room in search of the second dark lord.

A small breath escaped Annalise’s mouth as she relaxed and buried herself under the blanket with only her face peeking out to look at the fairy. "Nice to see you after such a long time."

A beautiful smile bloomed on Pristine’s lips as she hurried toward tge bed and plopped down beside Annalise while facing her and spoke, "And I won’t deny that I seriously missed you. I felt so alone after you left and could do nothing but sulk while waiting for your return." Her words were as genuine as they ever could be.

"Then where have you been this past week? I have returned for a while and still haven’t seen you once all this time." Annalise asked the fairy as she picked up her outer robe from the floor with a simple spell and draped it across her shoulders.
