Chapter 150: Crown Princess of Sky Castle
Chapter 150: Crown Princess of Sky Castle
Annalise opened the folded parchment to see exactly what was inside it only to find a single word written on it.
STOP!
She showed the parchment to others who were curiously waiting to know what sort of thing was hidden in the parchment. Everyone seemed just as surprised after seeing the message as Annalise was, confusion was clearly written on all their faces, except for Valerius.
"Really? Is this really the reason why you stopped the investigation?" Ezra was the first one to ask the question and from his tone, it was pretty clear that he didn’t believe the King at all.
On the other hand, even though Annalise too didn’t understand how come the single word on the parchment made the King stop his investigation, she could tell that there was more to the story.
"The investigation team that found the pendant was massacred two nights later, not even a single person was left alive." The Crown Prince let his words sink into the minds of everyone present there before he continued.
"We assigned two more groups to work alongside, one to continue the investigation of the Portal Hall incident and the other one to investigate the massacre. However, both those teams were also killed within a day."
The hall was filled with deep silence as no one dared to say anything while the Crown Prince told the dark reality of exactly what happened during the investigation time couple of years ago.
"Late night on the day of the murders of the other two investigation groups, a raven delivered this latter to my bed-chamber and died right after it dropped the latter on my lap. As soon as it died, its dark energy attacked me and left me in a coma for days." The Crown Prince continued the story about the real reason why they stopped the investigation.
"Thankfully, it was only a warning and I recovered after a couple of days but these incidents were enough to make us realize that we stand no chance against our enemy. At the end of the day, we were still mortals who never had been able to stand against the rest of the world."
Annalise could sense the sourness in his words but somehow, she knew that it wasn’t directed at those who had powers but instead, it was directed toward his own fate that had left him magicless... and also powerless against their immortal enemies.
"Mortals aren’t powerless..." Annalise suddenly found herself speaking and as soon as her brain registered the words, she knew that she was doing the right thing. "... not having magical powers doesn’t mean that you are weak. If that has been the case, the Mortal Realm wouldn’t have survived till now against the dark forces that are trying to ruin our world."
She spared a quick look at the King who seemed to be keenly listening to her before she turned her attention back to the Crown Prince who had his eyes fixed on her. "Also, there’s no guarantee that having magical powers makes one powerful and strong enough to keep themselves safe. If so... the Seelie Realm wouldn’t have lost the fight."
She stopped to take in a deep breath before she continued, "Just like Seelie and Unseelie are all about balancing each other, the same goes for Mortals and Immortals... we balance each other."
Her words were followed by silence but not for long as the Crown Prince suddenly stood up from his seat and bowed his head before speaking, "Thank you for your kind words, Your Highness."
Annalise nodded her head, accepting the Crown Prince’s gratitude. She spared a quick look in the direction of her husbands and found them giving her small encouraging nods and smiles.
’You are doing great, Princess.’ Damien’s proud voice greeted her through the mind link and made a beautiful smile bloom on Annalise’s lips.
"We are sorry for your loss but we would like to ask for Your Majesty’s permission to keep these two items so that we can continue with our investigation," Valerius spoke next, bringing everyone’s attention to the King as they all waited to hear what decision the King would make.
"You should agree with My Lord’s request, Your Majesty. If there’s anyone who can find out the truth behind these attacks, then it’s them." The unfamiliar but sweet voice belonged to the beauty who appeared in the Throne Hall out of thin air.
A beautiful red and black dress flowed down her waist like a waterfall. Long black hair that was adorned with beautiful gold hairpins and fair skin that was in direct contrast to the dark colors she was wearing, the lady was definitely someone with high status and powers.
The identity of the newcomer was soon disclosed as Ezra and his team hurriedly stood up and greeted the woman, "Your Highness, the Crown Princess."
"So, she’s the Dragon Princess," Leela whispered next to Annalise’s ear even though she was aware that the said woman could clearly hear her. Just then, the Crown Princess turned to face Annalise and Leela but thankfully, she just gave a slight nod of her head in greetings with a soft smile on her lips.
Annalise returned the greeting and watched as none of her husbands stood up to greet the Princess, once again making her curious about their status in the Midnight realm. It wasn’t like she hadn’t had her doubts already but she didn’t want to make any wrong assumptions without being sure about it.
"Princess Natalia, it’s nice seeing you after so many years. You have grown up into a very beautiful woman." The King seemed to already know the Crown Princess of the Sky Castle.
"Thank you, Your Majesty." Crown Princess Natalia showed her gratitude with proper courtesy to the King before she moved to take a seat beside the Crown Prince.
"So... do you know these young men?" The King asked the Crown Princess and his chosen words almost made everyone smile.
