Chapter 104: Like a rabbit
Chapter 104: Like a rabbit
Annalise almost ended up smiling as she found his way of motivating her a little bit funny even if he was speaking from the bottom of his heart. She slowly nodded her head before whispering, "Thank you."
The man surprised her once again as he cupped her face with one of his hands and captured her lips in a sweet and deep kiss that left her breathless. She heard Kenric complaining from distance but her mind was too focused on Valerius to pay attention to others.
When he finally ended the kiss and pulled his face away, she immediately turned her face away to avoid getting kissed in the middle of the road once again just in case he was not satisfied with just one kiss.
Valerius chuckled as he once again took hold of the reins as he spoke, "Let’s head to the Governor’s place. I heard visitors aren’t allowed there after sunset, so we need to hurry."
"Who do you think is at fault for getting us late in the first place?" Kenric questioned as he glared at Valerius with an unhappy look as he brought his horse next to theirs. His gaze then landed on Annalise and his face immediately brightened like a sunny day. "I told you to travel with me. Look where you end up getting stuck." He didn’t hold back from taunting her even though his frustration was actually directed at Valerius.
Valerius didn’t find it necessary to respond to Kenric as he made the horse move forward in the direction of the City Governor’s residence. It took them around ten minutes before they were standing outside the huge entrance of the big manor where the city head of Millerville was living.
The three lords jumped down from their horses at the same time before Valerius helped Annalise in climbing down. He just simply picked her up from tge horse and put her down on the ground like she weighed nothing.
Annalise quickly straightened her dress and hair as she felt her heart starting to race all over again. The jade pendant hanging from her waist suddenly started feeling heavier as she was definitely not prepared to act all mighty in front of the City Governor. However, one look in her husbands’ direction and she knew there was no going back for her unless she finishes the task.
Besides, she was the one who wanted to report the issue of the abandoned Portal Hall to the King, and now His Majesty had assigned her to continue with the investigation. She not only needed to solve the issue but she also had to provide a proper answer to the King. Talk about calling for trouble on her own!
She felt someone pulling on her wrist and when she looked up, she found all her husbands surrounding her but it was Kenric who had taken hold of her wrist. "Don’t worry, Little Bird. All three of us will be there with you, right beside you. Just make sure to not let the City Governor feel like he can fool you. Don’t give him any chance to look down upon you. Since His Majesty has decided to trust you about this issue, you need to have that same faith in yourself."
When never knew that even Kenric could be so good at motivating but seeing her husbands with her as they all promised to be there with her and for her, she felt way more calmed and confident than she had ever felt before in her life.
She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes before finally opening them after a few moments and putting on a small but warm smile on her face and nodded her head. "Alright! I’m ready, as ready as I ever can be."
"No, you are not!" Kenric suddenly spoke as he looked at her with a frown decorating his handsome face.
She looked at her husband in confusion, not quite understanding what he meant by that. What else was she supposed to do to get ready to face the City Governor?
"What is it, Kenric?" Damien asked in her place as the second lord also seemed just as clueless, about whatever Kenric was thinking, as her.
"Look at her, brothers. She had such a beautiful and warm smile on her face. Do you think that old man would feel even the tiniest bit of fear after seeing her? He would rather want to pinch her cheeks because of how cute she looks." Kenric spoke as he reached out to pinch her cheeks.
Annalise was quick to brush his hands away as she took a step away from him and closer to Damien, the latter was so etching that her body did on its own instinct. The man was quick to wrap his arm around her as he glared at Kenric who just wrapped his hands across his chest as he gave Damien a challenging look.
Damien let out a small sigh before he turned his attention to Annalise and spoke, "He’s actually right. You should not put that beautiful and warm smile on your face. You already look as harmless as a little bunny, but that smile of yours will make..."
"Seriously?" Annalise was done with their nonsense. She gave both Kenric and Damien unimpressed looks before she turned her attention to Valerius. If even he dared to spout the same nonsense, she was ready to throw hands.
"Ignore them," Valerius said as he too gave both of his brothers’ sharp glares, it was a clear signal for them to act serious as their current situation required their full attention. The expression on Kenric and Damien’s faces changed just in a mere blink that Annalise almost missed the transition.
"Let’s go inside before it will be too late." Valerius didn’t give any chance to anyone to speak before he had his hand wrapped around her wrist and he was already pulling her toward the entrance of the City Governor’s house where guards awaited them.
