Chapter 74. Discussion
Chapter 74: 74. Discussion
The principal’s office felt heavy, the air thick with tension. Leo’s gaze locked onto the vial on the table, the red hair strands glinting like blood under the flickering light. His voice cut through the silence, sharp and low. "So, I was the target in the hunting cage?"
Principal Veymoor’s old eyes stayed calm, careful. "Maybe. Maybe not."
Leo frowned, annoyed. "What does that mean?"
Vaelem spoke up, setting his glasses straight, his voice steady. "We tested the hair, Leonhardt. It’s from your bloodline, for sure. But whether it’s yours or Lucian’s... we can’t say."
Leo’s eyes blazed, his voice rising. "So, you’re saying me or my brother was the target of some crazy terrorist group?"
The royal investigator leaned forward. His dark coat rustled, and his stare was like a knife. "You are correct, kid. One of you was their goal, and because of it, sixteen noble kids died." His words hit hard, making the room feel tighter.
Leo’s eyes narrowed. "How did you guys keep everyone calm?I’m sure the kingdom will be uproar if some terrorist group attacks the academy."
Serion smirked, cold. "We lied. Said an unidentified S monster got into the academy forest by mistake. Only the top people, royals, big families, and the kids in the cage know the real story." He leaned closer, voice low. "So Leonhardt, tell me—did that demon say or do anything weird?"
Leo’s heart pounded, but he kept his face blank. He leaned forward, matching Serion’s stare. "He was about to kill my brother. I jumped in, fought him. That’s it."
Serion didn’t blink. "That’s all?"
Veymoor’s voice was firm. "Everything you say here stays secret, Leonhardt. Every little thing matters. Think hard."
Leo sighed loudly, rubbing his head like he was trying to remember. A tiny smirk hid in the corner of his mouth. "Fine. The demon... he talked."
Serion sat up straight. "What’d he say?"
Leo shrugged, playing dumb. "Some strange words. Didn’t get it. Sounded... creepy."
Veymoor looked at Isolde, who was ready to jump in. "Demonic language, maybe. Can you figure it out, Isolde?"
Her eyes lit up, eager. "Leonhardt, say exactly what he said. Every word."
Leo’s smirk grew, but no one saw. He knew demonic talk perfectly but messed up the words on purpose. "Zhar’kuth Valtharion, serek’thul... ankarra... vel’zarak, ven’kariin tal... Karaz du’Vahr... sin’thrax."
Isolde’s fingers twitched, trying to decode the language, her mind running. "I’m Valtharion, seventh commander of the demon army, tied to Sin Pride."
Leo’s heart raced, but he stayed cool. She’s good, he thought, impressed.
Gidon growled, his huge body shifting. "A commander? That’s a big deal."
Leo kept going, voice calm. "Zhaan’th... er viir... ehl’Rhazakar?"
Isolde’s breath caught, her hands shaking. "Are you... the... Ruler’s prophecy?" The words exploded in the room. Everyone gasped, faces going white like they’d seen a ghost.
"Ruler’s prophecy?" Gidon’s voice shook, shocked.
Isolde’s gaze snapped to Leo, her hands trembling slightly. "Leonhardt, are you sure those words are correct? There’s no mistake?"
Leo’s face was dead serious. "That’s what he said."
Serion slammed the table, the bang echoing like thunder. "Anything else? What else did he say?"
Leo tilted his head, pretending to think hard. "Uh... Kra’mar... vek’thal zu’rahl ehl’Rhaza... kar."
Isolde’s face went pale, her voice a scared whisper. "I was summoned to end the Ruler’s prophecy."
The room was silent again, the air suffocating with the weight of Isolde’s final translation. Every face was a mask of dread, as if they’d glimpsed the end of the world.
Leo sat still, his mind buzzing, stirred from a dream he’d had, Chloe’s voice, soft yet haunting, whispering of the Ruler’s Prophecy. Was it just a nightmare, or something more? His gut telling it was tied to Chloe, to him, to this mess.
He leaned forward, his voice low but sharp. "So, what’s this Ruler’s Prophecy?"
No one answered. Eyes darted, breaths held. The question hung like a blade ready to fall.
Veymoor’s frown deepened, his weathered hands tightening on his cane. Serion’s voice cut in. "You’re really gonna tell him?"
"He’s involved in this incident, Serion," Veymoor said, his tone resolute. "He needs to know."
He turned to Leo, his gaze heavy. "Leonhardt, do you know the Story of the Guiding Star?"
Leo’s mind sifted through Leonhardt’s memories, fragments of a life not entirely his own. "The kid’s fairytale?" he muttered.
He could almost hear Leonhardt’s mother’s voice, soft and warm, weaving the tale at his bedside. A story of a world on the brink, swallowed by darkness. A time when hope was a forgotten word, and fear ruled.
Yet, from the fear, a hero would rise, bearing the Charm of the Ruler. This person, like a king without a crown, would turn fear into a weapon, leading terrified one to end the darkness. It was a story for kids, something to make them feel safe. Hardly anyone believed it anymore, just old tales for bedtime.
Veymoor’s voice pulled him back. "The Story of the Guiding Star is the child’s version of the Ruler’s Prophecy. A bedtime tale to most, but its roots are ancient, written in texts older than this kingdom. It speaks of a man destined to unite all people, to become their ruler, not by crown, but by will. He’ll guide them through a calamity that threatens to end everything. Most have forgotten it, or laugh it off as a myth."
Leo’s face hardened, his voice a low growl. "So, some lunatics think me or my brother is this hero from a kid’s story, and they want us dead for it?"
Gidon nodded, his massive frame casting a shadow. "That’s the gist of it."
Leo’s eyes narrowed. "How do they know one of us is this prophecy?"
Silence again, thick and suffocating. Leo’s fist hit the table—once, twice, three times, each strike harder, the wood groaning under his knuckles. A sadistic grin curled his lips, slow and dangerous, as he lifted his head. His voice was deceptively calm. "Where’s that crazy freak you guys captured? I’ll ask them myself. Politely."
The room froze, every pair of eyes locked on Leo.
