Chapter 53. Hunting Event

Chapter 53: 53. Hunting Event

At the academy forest entrance, Leo stood in front of the four first-year students. His sharp crimson eyes took in their faces, each showing a different reaction.

Two looked excited, one was clearly nervous, and the last—the Gold section student—stood with an air of boredom, arms crossed like he couldn’t care less, each of them having their weapons ready.

Beside Leo, Professor Gidon waited, ready to give instructions, while two other professors handled separate groups in the distance.

Straightening his posture, Leo spoke with calm authority. "Leonhardt Caulem," he began, his tone steady but commanding, "Second-year Bronze student and its current section leader. I’ll be accompanying you today on your monster hunt."

The group stared at him, their expressions varied and unspoken reactions loud. Leo tilted his head slightly. "Introductions. Start."

The boy with raven-black hair tied loosely at the back stepped forward. His voice was calm but quiet. "Kareth. Bronze section."

The next student spoke easily, a Silver section boy with shaggy dark brown hair and a casual smile. "Varkas. Silver section."

Then came Rowan, the Gold section student. He shrugged dramatically, clearly not impressed with the situation. "Rowan," he muttered. His tone and attitude were full of arrogance.

Finally, a girl with bright yellow hair stepped forward hesitantly. Her voice was soft. "Olyria. Iron section."

Leo nodded briefly. "Alright, introductions done. Now listen up—Professor Gidon will explain the rules." He stepped aside as Gidon took over.

Gidon’s voice was clear and firm as he addressed the students. "Listen up. The academy forest is vast, but it has set borders. Do not cross those borders under any circumstances" He paused, making sure they understood.

"Within the boundaries, all monsters are ranked below C. Stick together, and you’ll be fine. We will evaluate your points after the hunt."

He pointed to the chain bracelets strapped around each student’s wrist. "These bracelets are important. They’ll signal us in case of an emergency, track your location, or teleport you back to safety if needed. Don’t lose them, and don’t take them off."

"Your senior here—Leonhardt—will guide and protect you through this hunt. You are to follow his instructions at all times. This is not optional."

The group nodded uneasily, except for Rowan, who scoffed loudly and rolled his eyes. "This guy? Seriously?" he said, his voice full of disdain. "A Bronze student keeping us safe? We don’t need him."

Leo’s irritation flared, but he stayed calm, glancing at Gidon with raised eyebrows. "You sure I’m the best choice to babysit these brats?"

Gidon sighed heavily, clearly just as annoyed as Leo. "Unfortunately, there’s no other option."

Leo sighed and stepped forward, his gaze locking onto Rowan. "Rowan, right?"

"Yeah," Rowan replied arrogantly, crossing his arms. "What about it?"

Leo smiled faintly, his hand resting on Rowan’s shoulder. At first, it seemed like a calm gesture, but the air around them suddenly grew heavy.

A suffocating pressure filled the area, making the students freeze in place. Even Rowan’s confidence shattered in seconds as he gasped for air, his knees almost buckling under the invisible weight.

"For the next four hours," Leo said quietly, his voice cold and sharp, "you’re under my supervision. You’ll shut your ass and follow my orders without complaints. Got it?"

The other students looked pale, their breaths shallow as they stared at Leo in shock. Gidon raised a brow, impressed by how quickly Leo had handled the situation. Leo pulled back the pressure, and the suffocating aura vanished. The students gasped, relief flooding their faces as they straightened up.

Leo turned and gestured toward the path ahead. "Let’s go," he said simply.

The group nodded quickly.

Leo turned and led them into the forest, his steady movements cutting through the thick trees. Their footsteps followed, cautious but in sync with his pace.

From behind, Gidon shouted after them, "Return in four hours! Don’t be late!" he made an strict remainder

Beside Rin watched silently, her pink eyes fixed on Leo’s back as he disappeared into the forest. "Leonhardt, be careful!" she yelled suddenly, her voice filled with concern.

Leo raised a hand without looking back, a brief acknowledgement before continuing down the trail.

Rin muttered softly, "I hope everything will be fine." Her tone carried worry as she stared at the fading group.

Gidon chuckled lightly and turned to her. "Relax. This is just a simple hunt, nothing dangerous." He then frowned slightly and asked, "Wait... when did you came here?"

Rin gave a small, playful grin. "Just now," she replied, her tone cheerful.

Far deeper in the forest, away from the safety of the academy’s boundaries. In a clearing, four figures dressed in white cloaks moved with quiet precision.

They worked around a large glyph drawn into the ground, its intricate lines glowing faintly.

Two of them dragged a man forward, his wrists and ankles bound in chains. He screamed, his voice trembling as he begged for mercy. "Please! Don’t ... don’t do this! Let me go!"

The cloaked figures ignored him completely. They forced him to his knees at the edge of the glyph. One of them raised a sword, and with one swift motion, the sword struck.

SHHKT!

Blood pouring into the glyph’s lines, its glow intensifying as it absorbed the blood.

The second prisoner, a woman, screamed in terror, struggling against her chains. "No! Please, no! I’ll do anything!" Her cries were desperate.

"Failures must be sacrificed," the guy said flatly.

The sword fell again, and her blood followed the same path as the first sacrifice. The glyph’s glow brightened further, its power building as the ritual progressed.

The chanting figure stepped forward, holding a glass vial in his hands. Inside were red hair.

He unscrewed the vial and scattered the hair shards across the glowing glyph. The air grew heavy, an unnatural force rising in the clearing.

Elsewhere, Lucian stood ready, his sword steady in his grip as a Gloomfang wolf lunged toward him. The beast’s claws aimed for his throat, but Lucian didn’t flinch.

He dodged the attack and struck back with one swift strike. His blade cut cleanly through the wolf’s neck, and its lifeless body collapsed heavily to the ground.

The rest of his group of students breathed hard, their weapons shaking as they stood over the corpses of the dead wolves. Their leader, the third Silver section guy clapped his hands. "Good work, everyone. That was teamwork at its finest."

He turned to Lucian with a wide grin. "Especially you, Lucian. Now I understand why you ranked second in the entrance exams."

Lucian wiped his sword, with a smile. "It was all teamwork," he said simply. "I’m nothing special."

The Silver student laughed lightly, shaking his head. "You’re far too humble."

Lucian didn’t respond, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings carefully. Despite his words, his actions had clearly inspired confidence in the group. But Lucian feeling something, something wrong energy here.
