Chapter 45: 45. Council meeting

The Student Council Chamber at Obsidian Academy was a place of power, located at the highest point of the school. The ceiling was tall, painted with stars that glowed softly under magical chandeliers.

A large round table made of dark oak stood in the center, its shiny surface reflecting the faces of the academy’s top students—thirteen of the most important people in the school.

Prince Cassian, the Vice President, sat with an annoyed look. His voice was sharp. "Why are we waiting? Do we really have to hold up the whole council for someone who doesn’t belong here?"

The Iron Leader, a big, tough-looking guy, leaned back. "The Bronze Leader isn’t here yet."

Darius laughed, his grin full of arrogance. "Bronze Leader?" he sneered. "What a joke. The Bronze section is useless. Letting him sit with us is just charity."

The Silver Leader, an icy blue-haired girl with curves, spoke next. Her voice was smooth and alluring. "I don’t agree, Darius. Anyone who can outsmart the entire academy and gambling business like he did is worth paying attention to." Her assistant, a short girl, chuckled softly.

Darius rolled his eyes. "He’s nothing special. Just a weakling trying to act important."

The elf exchange student smirked, green eyes shining. "Really? Then why did that same weakling scare you with just a flash of his aura?"

Adrian Dranemount, who’s here as Princess Thalia’s assistant, chuckled. "I’d have liked to see that."

Darius’s face turned red. "Watch your mouth, Stigrum," he growled.

Princess Thalia raised a hand. The room fell silent. "Adrian, that’s enough," she said calmly. Adrian nodded, his smirk lingering.

The brown-skinned guy, an exchange student from another kingdom, leaned back, thoughtful. "Weak or not, he’s the reason most of you are here today. Even the ’elite’ are curious about him."

Cassian slammed his hand on the table. "The Bronze class doesn’t belong here!" he snapped. "They’re a disgrace to this council. They don’t even have real chairs! Why are we wasting time?"

Volkahardt had been silent until now. His sharp eyes scanned the room. When he spoke, his voice was firm. "Tradition or not, Leonhardt Caulem is the Bronze Leader. This meeting is to introduce him to the council. We won’t start without him."

No one argued. The room was tense.

Then, the heavy doors creaked open.

Everyone turned.

Leo walked in, dragging a chair behind him. The sound of wood scraping echoed through the hall. Behind him, Mori followed nervously, trying to stay unnoticed.

His presence was strong. His red eyes met every gaze without hesitation. He walked with a confidence that challenged the whole council.

The icy blue-haired girl smiled slightly, while Erin Dranemount watched with a knowing expression. Princess Thalia stayed calm. Adrian grinned. Cassian scowled. Darius glared.

Leo stopped across from Darius. With a small, teasing smirk, he set the chair down loudly. Then he sat, leaning back like he owned the place. He looked straight at Darius, his smirk growing.

"Sorry I’m late," he said smoothly. "Had to make sure Bronze had a good seat at the table."

He leaned back, crimson eyes scanning the room.

His presence was striking, daring, as though he’d brought a storm and challenged the council to face it. The reactions were mixed, some were in shock, irritation, curiosity, but no one could look away.

Volkahardt’s sharp eyes showed faint amusement. Reo had shaken the council’s usual order with just his entrance.

The Silver Leader’s lips curved into a slow, teasing smile. Her gaze locked onto him with an intensity that felt almost predatory. She rested her chin on her hand, fingers brushing her cheek.

"So," she said smoothly, "you’re Leonhardt Caulem? I’ve heard quite a few things about you." Her eyes flicked toward Darius, her smile sharpening.

"You seem... different than how some described you." With a soft chuckle, she added, "Not bad to look at either."

Leo’s smirk widened. "Thank you, Senior Eislinde Veyr," he replied, voice calm. "I suppose I am different from what’s been said."

She chuckled again, the sound light and melodic. "Very different indeed," she murmured, her tone carrying a hint of challenge.

Before they could continue, Erin raised her hand. "Perhaps we should begin the meeting," she said, tone practical, unimpressed by theatrics.

Volkahardt nodded, signaling Liora Fercrest, the council secretary. She stood tall, addressing the room.

"With all leaders and honored guests present, this session is now formally in order," she announced.

"Representing the sections are: Third-year Huldrich Vandr, leader of the Iron section. Third-year Eislinde Veyr, leader of the Silver section. Second-year Darius Rathur, leader of the Gold section." She paused.

"We also have notable attendees: First-year Erin Dranemount, excelling since her entrance into the academy and serving the council this past week. Princess Thalia, a contender in the upcoming elections, with her assistant Adrian Dranemount. Guests include Stigrum of the Elf Kingdom and Faelar Vindis from Zarethune Kingdom, both exchange students."

She continued steadily, "The Student Council thanks all present. Today’s agenda has two parts: the introduction of our new Bronze section leader, Leonhardt Caulem, and matters concerning the upcoming elections and leadership transition."

Volkahardt gave Liora a subtle nod before she returned to her seat. He rose from his chair, speaking with calm authority.

"Thank you all for attending," he began. "As you know, one of today’s agendas is the introduction of the new Bronze section leader. Leonhardt Caulem secured his position by defeating the previous leader, Garrik, in a formal duel. I officially welcome him to the council. Leonhardt Caulem, your presence is noted."

Palms tapped against the table—a reserved acknowledgment. Some clapped out of obligation.

Leo stood.

"Thank you for the introduction and the chance to sit among the academy’s leaders," he began.

"It’s no secret a Bronze student rarely earns a seat here. But I’m here. And I didn’t get here by luck." His smirk grew slightly as he glanced at Darius and Cassian. "I’m grateful for the welcome. Truly." He nodded and sat, posture relaxed.

The President leaned forward, hands resting on the table. "As is custom, if anyone objects to Leonhardt Caulem’s appointment, state your objection now."

Slowly, hands began to rise. Nearly every member raised theirs—except Princess Thalia, who remained seated, hands folded.

"Ah," Leo muttered, his voice low and amused. "Now the entertainment begins."
