Chapter 166. Anger on him

Chapter 166: 166. Anger on him

Rin’s staff flicked, sending lightning-fast beams of pure mana at Lucian that were each sharp enough to pierce magic armor.

Lucian’s eyes shone, his red aura flaring as he used Blood Dance, a rare Caulem skill sharpened by hard training. His sword moved too quickly to see, perfectly aiming to block the mana beams as his body turned into a storm of red light.

The arena floor shook as each blow sent shockwaves through it. He quickly closed the distance, swinging his blade precisely at Rin’s chest, but she disappeared as her body faded into a glimmer of light, the Aether Phantom spell that Isolde had taught her.

Rin appeared behind him, her staff crackling with mana as she swung with extra strength, aiming for his back. Lucian spun, his reflexes amazing, his sword meeting her staff with a loud BOOM that broke the arena’s mana barriers, sending glowing sparks falling like stars.

Their weapons locked, shaking with raw power, their eyes burning—Rin’s pink with stubborn determination, Lucian’s gray with thrilled respect.

The crowd held its breath, the bronze students still, Velmera’s hands clasped so tight her knuckles turned white. In the stands, Professor Gidon gripped the railing beside Avoor, Vaelm, and Isolde, his voice a low rumble of wonder.

Isolde’s smirk grew, pride clear, her sapphire eyes fixed on Rin.

Her voice cut through the arena, sharp and final. "The match ends here!"

The Ethereal Dominion sphere faded, its runes disappearing as the arena’s air calmed, dust settling slowly. Rin and Lucian stepped back, breathing hard, weapons lowered, sweat shining on their faces.

The bronze students burst into cheers, their voices echoing through the stands, Velmera clapping wildly, her eyes bright with happiness.

Mori shouted, "That’s our Rin!" while Joel and Annalena shared shocked looks, their bronze brooches catching the fading light.

With her staff propped up next to her, Rin sat panting on the ground with her lavender hair drenched in sweat. As he caught his breath, Lucian Caulem stood close by, his sword sheathed, his gray eyes warm with respect, and his tunic dusty but undamaged.

The professor’s eyes were fixed on them both at the railing. Isolde crossed her arms and smiled proudly, her blue hair gleaming in the sunlight. With a voice full of triumph, she said, "Well, colleagues, dare you say my disciple isn’t impressive now?"

Avoor’s voice was low with grudging awe as he ran a hand through his fiery orange hair, his face still marked with disbelief. "Rin Valarune, previously Leonhardt Caulem. I had no idea that bronze could produce such gifted people."

Isolde’s smile widened, her eyes sparkling. Gidon let out a hearty chuckle, his gruff voice warm with pride. "Damn right they’re mine. I spotted both, though I entrusted Rin to Isolde’s care."

Isolde shot him a glare, her tone sharp but teasing. "Don’t act like you shaped her, Gidon. You just pointed me her way."

Vaelm turned to Gidon, curious in his scholarly tone. "How’s Leonhardt’s training progressing, Gidon?"

Gidon’s face lit up, pride brightening his weathered features. "You wouldn’t believe his growth, Vaelm. In three months, and he’s progressed so much that no one could reach so fast. He’s already mastered his Aura."

Avoor nodded, his tone thoughtful, eyes narrowing. "His aura’s unique, if he already mastered Aura, then he’s too powerful even now. With him and Rin, bronze might just dominate this tournament."

Vaelm glanced at Rin, still catching her breath below, and asked, "Have you offered her a promotion to a higher section?"

Isolde nodded, her smile softening. "I already did, Not even silver but gold."

Avoor’s brow arched, intrigue flickering. "What was her answer?"

Isolde’s eyes drifted across the arena to Leo, standing at the upper railing with Erin Dranemount. "She said her fight’s for him. What’s a promotion worth if he’s not by her side?"

The professors followed her gaze, their expressions blending amusement and understanding as they watched Leo, his crimson eyes fixed on Rin with quiet intensity.

Leo leaned against the railing, a sharp smirk playing on his lips. "She’d crush Berend in a rematch now," he murmured, voice low but brimming with pride.

Erin grinned, violet eyes twinkling with mischief. "You’ve built her into something fierce, Reo."

Leo’s smirk softened, his gaze steady on Rin. "She’s a natural. Three months, and she’s already this strong."

Below, Lucian approached Rin, his grin warm as he offered a hand to pull her up. "You seem to have directed your anger on my brother to me, Senior," he said, his tone light and teasing.

Rin smiled, grasping his hand and rising, brushing dirt from her uniform. "I never take out anger on you, Lucian," she said, her voice playful as she dusted herself off. Lucian glanced around, spotting Velmera rushing toward them, face alight with joy.

Assuming her excitement was for him, Lucian spread his arms, grinning wide. "Velmera," he called, ready to catch her.

But she darted past, shouting, "Senior Rin!" and enveloped Rin in a tight hug, her voice bubbling with delight. "You were incredible, Senior! You nearly had him, and I’m so proud!"

Lucian froze, arms still outstretched, a mix of surprise and embarrassment on his face. Mori, passing by with Joel and Annalena, clapped his shoulder with a chuckle.

"Nice one, Rin!" Mori said, while Joel and Annalena added their praise, voices warm with admiration. Rin smiled, chatting with them, her pink eyes bright despite her fatigue.

A sudden burst of loud applause cut through the arena, drawing every gaze upward. Erin stood at the railing, hands cupped around her mouth, shouting, "Well done, Senior Rin, you’re unstoppable!" Her tone was half-teasing, half-sincere, her violet eyes glinting with mischief.

Leo stood beside her, his face flickering with mild irritation as he shot Erin a sideways glance, crimson eyes narrowing.

The crowd hesitated, worry rippling through their faces as they glanced between Rin and the railing.

Lucian managed a forced smile, his voice light but tight. "My brother actually came to watch us spar, Senior."

Velmera nodded, her tone forced and cheerful. "Of course, he’s here to see how much you’ve grown."

Rin, however, ignored what they were saying and kept her eyes fixed on Leo and Erin. Erin’s playful shout echoed in her mind as she saw Leo, her face hardening and her pink eyes flashing with hurt and frustration.

She met Leo’s eyes—just once—and something in her expression broke before she turned and walked out of the arena without saying anything, ignoring Velmera’s shouts "Senior, wait!" Her footsteps were heavy as she vanished into the darkness of the tunnel.

Leo watched as she left, his crimson eyes narrowing. "You stirred that up on purpose, didn’t you?" With a low, accusing tone, he asked.

Erin’s violet eyes danced with laughter as her smile grew wide and unwavering. With a light yet perceptive tone, she replied, "I just love making you fun, Reo..."
