Chapter 157: 157. Truth

After telling Leo about Ashtera, the person who was after Rin, and her obsession him, Erin leaned back on the couch in the tense dorm room, her violet eyes staring at him.

Leo’s hands were shaking, and the coffee cup he was holding was trembling and rippling. His heart pounded, a deep pain in his chest, reminding him of Chloe’s death from his Earth days.

With a loud clink, he placed the cup on the table, breaking the oppressive silence. His legs were unsteady as he stood, and his red eyes were devoid of both fear and resolve.

Erin’s voice was quick and sharp. "You’re going to her now, aren’t you?"

Leo met her gaze, his eyes raw, voice breaking with feeling. "I have to."

Erin jumped up, her voice loud, frustration spilling out. "That’s why we kept this from you!" she snapped, her violet eyes flashing. "You’re a killer, Reo, but you let your heart rule you. It cost you Chloe, and now you’re walking into the same trap!"

Leo’s voice was weak and desperate as his mouth opened. "But I can’t just—"

"Go, then!" Erin interrupted, her yell echoing in the small room. "I won’t stop you, but don’t expect me to pull your ass out every time Ashtera comes for you!" She stormed to the door, muttering under her breath.

Liana, waiting outside, flinched as Erin rushed past. Erin paused, her voice low and warning. "Look after him, Liana," she said, before walking down the hallway, her steps fading into the quiet.

Liana’s worry grew, and she hurried into the room. She stopped, her brown eyes widening at Leo, slumped on the couch, head down, staring at the floor. Kneeling beside him, her voice shook with concern. "Young Master, what’s wrong?"

Leo lifted his head, and Liana’s breath stopped. A few tears ran down his cheeks, faint but clear—the first time she’d seen him so open. Her heart tightened, her voice soft and urgent. "What happened? Did she... hurt you?"

Leo shook his head, a weak smile flickering, his voice low and rough. "It’s nothing, Liana. Just... a lot of happiness." He stood, wiping his face with his sleeve, his tone calming, though it sounded forced. "Can you get dinner ready? I’m starving."

Liana’s eyes studied him, feeling the pain he hid. She stood slowly, her voice gentle but worried. "Of course, Young Master," she said, pausing before heading to the kitchen, glancing back at Leo as he sank onto the couch, his crimson eyes far away.

The next day, The air in Professor Isolde’s office smelled slightly of paper and a hint of magic from years of study as the morning’s light streamed in through tall arched windows.

Isolde, the blue-haired professor, was staring at Rin with a judgmental, sharp gaze as Rin sat on a plush chair, her academy uniform tidy, her pink eyes wide and anxious. Leo and Professor Gidon were standing close by, which both reassured Rin and made her more uneasy.

Isolde leaned forward, her eyes narrowing as she studied Rin, then stood up, looking at Gidon with a doubtful frown.

"I expected a gold-class prodigy when you asked me to take a disciple, Gidon," Isolde said, her voice cool but curious.

Gidon’s rough laugh filled the room, his hands waving widely. "This girl’s got raw talent you won’t believe. I saw her duel—she pushed a top gold-class student to the edge. And don’t forget the hunting cage incident—she held her own there too."

Isolde’s eyes moved back to Rin, her lips tightening as she murmured, "Still..." Her tone showed doubt, but Leo stepped forward, crimson eyes honest as he met her gaze.

"Professor Isolde," he said, "I know you’re the only one who can train Rin properly. I’m asking you to give her a chance, please."

Isolde paused, her face softening at the true plea in his eyes, a hint of respect showing. She sighed, her shoulders easing a bit. "Alright, Caulem. Let’s see what she’s got."

She turned to Rin, crouching to her level, a kind smile breaking her stern look. "Ready to show me what you can do, Valarune?"

Rin nodded fast, her cheeks pink with nerves, but before she could speak, Isolde placed a hand on her big chest, just above her heart. Rin squeaked, her face turning red as she stiffened, her voice a nervous whisper. "P-Professor!" Gidon and Leo looked away, their faces showing embarrassment, Gidon coughing loudly.

Isolde ignored the awkward moment and said, "Hold still," in a soft, calm voice. She closed her eyes and sent a gentle blue mana pulse into Rin’s heart from her glowing hand. Rin’s breath caught as the mana reached deep within her, to the mana core, and her eyes widened as a warm sensation spread throughout her.

Isolde’s face went white with shock as her eyes popped open and she pulled back her hand as if she had been burned. "This isn’t possible," she muttered in a tremulous voice.

Gidon’s brow wrinkled, his tone sharp with worry. "What’s wrong?"

Blue haired professor stood, her eyes fixed on Rin, her voice full of awe. "Her mana reserves are... extraordinary, beyond anything I’ve encountered. But she’s leaking mana at an alarming rate—far more than normal. If she learns to control it, she could be unstoppable."

With a mixture of pride and curiosity, Leo’s red eyes gave a quick glance at Rin. "Professor, will you train her?"

After giving Rin a long look, Isolde’s lips slowly began to smile with excitement. Her voice was full of eagerness as she asked, "How could I turn down an opportunity like this?"

Rin’s eyes gleamed as she leaped from the chair, ignoring the pain in her bandaged arm. Her voice was excited as she threw her arms around Leo in a fit of joy. "I did it, Leonhardt!"

With an awkward smirk on his lips, Leo gently supported her with his hands on her shoulders. When he saw her wince, his red eyes, which were normally sharp, became slightly worried. "Come on, Valarune," he said in a lighthearted yet gentle tone, "you have to make it through Isolde’s training first." Gently, as if she were something priceless that he didn’t want to harm, he brushed a loose strand of her hair behind her ear..

Rin’s cheeks turned bright pink, her smile growing despite his soft scolding, her heart racing at his care. Leonhardt turned to Isolde, his voice warm with thanks. "Thank you, Professor," he said, his eyes showing quiet determination.

Gidon slapped Leonhardt’s shoulder and spoke loudly but kindly, his rough laugh filling the room. "Now is the time for you to begin your own training, Caulem. Are you prepared?"

Nodding, Leo followed him on his walk. At the door, he paused and turned to face Rin, a rare, warm smile that stopped her breath. "Rin, don’t hold back."

Rin’s cheeks burned redder, her heart fluttering at his smile, her voice a shy, firm mumble. "I won’t..."
