Chapter 149: 149. Rin vs Berend(conclusion)

"Gravitation pulse."

The arena trembled as Rin drove her staff into the ground, cracks separating like lightning. Spectators were pinned to their seats by an unseen force that rumbled through the air, heavy and crushing.

Berend was forced downward by the surge of the gravitational wave. His body trembled under the constant weight of the spell, his knees giving way and his hammer sinking into the ground. As the force of the spell pressed against their chests, the crowd fell silent.

"Gravity Magic?" From the stands, Velmera whispered, her voice shaking with fear and wonder. "She shouldn’t know of that."

As Berend struggled against the force, his face contorted and his veins swelled. His golden glow flared like a bright star as he threw all his aura into his limbs with a raw yell.

As he broke free, the gravitational wave shattered and the ground beneath him cracked. The aura of the warhammer was brighter than ever as he lunged, swinging it with wild, desperate force.

Rin stood, gripping her staff tightly as Berend’s aura-coated warhammer smashed against her invisible mana shield. There was a huge BOOM from the collision, and the stone walls of the arena cracked and the stands shook as shockwaves spread out.

His hammer burned with bright gold, its fierce power driven by his desperation, veins bulging as he put all his aura into the strike. Sparks flew like a wild storm as the shield broke apart, briefly lighting up the arena.

As mana surged through her to keep the barrier intact, she gritted her teeth. The audience went silent, the cheers stopped, and the air itself appeared to pause.

The shockwave rumbled like thunder as the shield broke with a loud CRACK. The blast threw both fighters back, and the explosion was so powerful that the arena trembled.

Berend’s hammer made a rough path as he crashed into the dirt and skidded to a stop. The ground was red from the blood dripping from a cut on his forehead. He gasped and his chest heaved, but he pulled himself up, his gray eyes burning with stubborn defiance.

A spinning cocoon of blue mana softened Rin’s fall as she flew through the air. Dust swirled like a queen’s curtain opening as her boots touched the ground with an eerie grace.

Berend stumbled to his feet, gazing at this unbreakable girl of the bronze class. His voice was raw with shock and exhaustion as he rasped, "Who are you?" "You’re not your typical bronze student."

Her lips curved into a faint, mysterious smile, her voice soft but sharp. "Just a stubborn girl with a point to prove."

Light flared around her, warm and bright, forming a cluster of glowing orbs like tiny suns pulsing with mana. They burst together, sending a flurry of searing spears streaking toward him like shooting stars. The air screamed, the ground shaking with each hit.

His aura surged, increasing his speed as he moved in a golden blur. Mana shockwaves were sent through the stands as the spears exploded against the stone of the arena, creating holes.

Out of breath, gold-class students leaned forward, forgetting their betting slips.

Lucian whispered, his voice barely audible over the commotion, "She’s tracking him perfectly."

Berend ducked, swerving around the attack—until his boot dug into the slippery, hidden mud Rin had created in the ground.

Legs catching in it, he stumbled and fell to the ground. His eyes flashed with panic as he struggled to stand and clawed at the ground.

Rin’s smile changed from sweet to sadistic as she tilted her head. "Need help leaving that?"

His body jerked upward, lifted by an unseen force, before he could respond. Rin raised her hand, her mana distorting the air as he twisted in the air, limbs bending strangely. As his joints bent against his will and his aura flickered in desperation, his scream echoed through the arena, raw and wild.

"Stop her!" From the stands, a girl with a gold brooch let out an afraid scream.

Rin’s gaze was cold, unflinching. A golden blaze erupted from Berend, causing his aura to surge. He broke her grip with a deep roar, forcing his limbs back into position while the healing power of his aura repaired his flesh. Bloody, trembling, nearly broken, he landed in a crouch. There was a faint glow from his warhammer.

His voice was rough but fierce as he growled, "This is...Not... done... yet."

With eyes blazing with desperate anger, he raised his weapon. "The Judgment of Dawn!"

As he swung, a dazzling flash of golden light exploded from the hammer, sending a shockwave of pure energy tearing across the battlefield.

Rin’s eyes flared, raised her staff, its blue glow swallowing the torchlight. "Aether Cataclysm!" she shoutedl. Blue mana roared from her like a tidal wave, spiraling into a crackling vortex that shot downward in a devastating beam. It crashed head-on with Berend’s golden shockwave.

The impact was massive.

A deafening BOOM shook the air, the arena trembling like it was hit by a giant’s fist. Light and energy burst in a blinding storm, swallowing the battlefield in smoke and debris. Betting slips fluttered like ashes in a storm, spectators screaming as they shielded their faces from the blast’s searing heat.

Leo braced himself, crimson eyes squinting through the haze. "Rin..." he whispered, his voice tight with worry.

Lucian clutched Velmera’s hand, his knuckles white. "That was... beyond anything I’ve seen."

The dust began to clear, revealing a wrecked battlefield. Craters scarred the ground, burned lines spreading like broken wheel spokes. Berend struggled to his feet, his gold-trimmed uniform in rags, fresh blood streaking his arms. His warhammer lay half-buried in the dirt, its glow weak. His eyes were wild, panic creeping into his battered frame.

He turned—and froze.

Rin lay crumpled in the dirt, her staff just beyond her outstretched hand. Her pink eyes were closed, her chest rising with shallow, uneven breaths. Blood pooled beneath her, seeping into the scorched stone, her torn uniform showing the battle’s toll.

Yet her fingers twitched, a faint sign of life in the stillness.
