The Useless Heiress Is Actually A Bigshot
Chapter 575 - Chapter 575 Chapter 575 Baili Zhenhua

Chapter 575: Chapter 575: Baili Zhenhua Chapter 575: Chapter 575: Baili Zhenhua Lu Yichen began explaining, “We’re now in the End of Dharma Age, where Spiritual Energy is scarce and cultivation resources are pitifully few. The major Hidden Families have chosen to seclude themselves around Changbai Mountain simply because the Spiritual Energy is richer here. But acquiring cultivation resources is by no means an easy feat.”

“The exchange meeting held every three years by the special department is their means of obtaining resources. The Baili Family mainly delves into witchcraft; they, too, require a plethora of Spiritual Artifacts to aid them.”

After listening to Lu Yichen’s explanation, Zhong Niangyao nodded in understanding and then covered her mouth with a smile, teasingly saying, “So, in that case, you could be considered their sponsor, no wonder they have such an attitude toward you.”

Lu Yichen reached out and gently tapped Zhong Niangyao on the forehead, laughing as he spoke, “Your Chinese really isn’t very good, is it? Do you think that’s an appropriate description?”

“I think it’s quite fitting!” Zhong Niangyao blinked and responded with a beaming smile, “Aren’t you their sponsor?”

For a moment, Lu Yichen didn’t know how to answer and could only shake his head with a chuckle, saying nothing more.

Just then, a servant came to serve tea and pastries. Following closely were the old man from before and another middle-aged man–who must be the ‘Master’ the older man had mentioned.

“How should we address the two of you?”

The current head of the Baili Family and its patriarch, Baili Hengyuan’s eldest son Baili Zhenhua, greeted them with a cupped hands salute and introduced himself, “I am Baili Zhenhua of the Baili Family, a pleasure to meet you both.”

Lu Yichen didn’t even bother standing up. He looked up faintly and glanced at Baili Zhenhua before saying, “My surname is Lu, and this is my fiancee, surname Zhong.”

Upon hearing the surname ‘Zhong,’ a flicker of chill passed through Baili Zhenhua’s eyes, his brow furrowed with hesitation as he spoke, “Surname Zhong, is–”

“Is there a problem?” Zhong Niangyao also noticed Baili Zhenhua’s odd reaction. She remained seated, propping her cheek with one hand in an utterly languid posture, “Does Master Baili have an issue with my surname? Or perhaps, you know someone else with the surname Zhong?”

It seemed that the Baili Family was indeed the place she had been seeking; it was only a matter of what exactly had transpired between Zhong Mingxin and Baili Lele. It was clear that the people of the Baili Family held a strong aversion toward Zhong Mingxin, and even to anyone with the surname Zhong, there was an inherent wariness.

“Not at all.” Baili Zhenhua denied instinctively, but realizing that his reaction might have been a bit much, he hastily added, “I once knew someone surnamed Zhong, with whom I had some unpleasant experiences.”

Zhong Niangyao nodded, and then with a smile, she pressed, “It seems to be quite a deep grudge! Just hearing the word ‘Zhong’ triggers such a big reaction.”

Baili Zhenhua wanted to clarify, but upon second thought, he felt there was no need and deftly changed the subject. “Mr. Lu, Miss Zhong, as you have traveled far, why not rest first? Once you’ve recovered, we can discuss the exchange meeting.”

Zhong Niangyao nodded, not asking anything further. As though her previous questions were just a passing curiosity without any special meaning.

Lu Yichen didn’t object.

And so, Baili Zhenhua instructed Housekeeper Bai, the old man from before, to take Lu Yichen and Zhong Niangyao to rest in the guest rooms.

Along the way, Housekeeper Bai introduced every part of the complex to Lu Yichen and Zhong Niangyao.

In the corridor, Zhong Niangyao noticed a room not far away that exuded traces of Spiritual Energy, which seemed to be more abundant than in other areas.

“That room is–?” Holding to the principle of asking when in doubt, Zhong Niangyao didn’t beat around the bush and directly inquired.

Housekeeper Bai, following the direction of Zhong Niangyao’s finger, looked over and his expression changed suddenly. He quickly replied, “That’s our Miss’ room. Our Miss is not in good health and has always been bedridden. Without any special circumstances, she doesn’t go out.”

“Oh, is that so?” Zhong Niangyao nodded and then changed tack, “Since we’re here now, why don’t we go over and loudly greet her? After all, as guests, it’s proper for us to pay a visit.”

“This–” A difficult expression appeared on Housekeeper Bai’s face; he began to speak, “Our Miss requires peace and tranquility due to her poor health, and she prefers not to have any disturbances. So, I regret to say, I cannot take you both to meet our Miss.”

“It’s alright.” Zhong Niangyao shook her head, nonchalant, “If it’s inconvenient, then never mind.”

It was as if her previous words were mere offhand comments.

Seeing no sign of anything unusual on Zhong Niangyao’s face, Housekeeper Bai took a deep breath of relief and then continued to lead Lu Yichen and Zhong Niangyao towards the guest rooms.

Throughout the walk, Zhong Niangyao held Lu Yichen’s hand, looking left and right at the surrounding scenery as though she found it very interesting.

Knowing that Lu Yichen and Zhong Niangyao were engaged, the Baili Family had arranged the same room for them. However, like a suite, there were two separate rooms inside.

Neither Lu Yichen nor Zhong Niangyao had any objections.

Meanwhile, after leaving the reception room, Baili Zhenhua immediately went to the study and found his father, Baili Hengyuan, engaged in divination.

Baili Hengyuan noticed the entrance of Baili Zhenhua but could not interrupt his divination; without lifting his head, he continued his actions.

Upon seeing the Copper Coin, his originally calm emotions suddenly surged; without any warning, he abruptly stood up, his eyes widened, filled with disbelief.

“Father, what’s happened?”

Seeing Baili Hengyuan’s sudden movement, Baili Zhenhua was taken aback and stepped forward with concern, “Has something happened?”

While speaking, he looked at the divination on the table. However, he couldn’t discern any specifics as he was not aware of what his father was divining.

Baili Hengyuan struggled to calm his emotions before slowly sitting back down, his voice filled with uncontrollable excitement, “That divination just now, was for your younger sister.”

After hearing Baili Hengyuan’s words, Baili Zhenhua looked again at the divination and couldn’t help but frown, “Father, the divination doesn’t seem very auspicious. Why are you–”
