Chapter 392 - Chapter 392 Chapter 392 Thorough Investigation
Chapter 392: Chapter 392 Thorough Investigation Chapter 392: Chapter 392 Thorough Investigation Liu Yiyi didn’t respond, but that did not mean Zhong Niangyao would shut up.
“Now you’re saying it was a joke and apologizing to me with such deference, merely because of my social status,” Zhong Niangyao said with a cold laugh. “If I weren’t Zhong Niangyao, if I weren’t the third young lady of the Zhong Family, you would likely have already called the police to have me arrested and fabricated evidence to make it look like I’m a corporate spy!”
As Zhong Niangyao’s words fell one by one, Liu Yiyi’s face turned deathly pale, completely drained of all color.
Seeing this, Liu Hao had no choice but to step forward. “The third young lady is right; this matter is Yiyi’s fault. I will definitely punish her appropriately and hope the third young lady will be magnanimous and not hold this against Yiyi.”
Although he now loathed the trouble his daughter had caused, he had no choice but to speak on her behalf. While it wasn’t a case of one’s glory being everyone’s glory, and one’s loss being everyone’s loss, if Liu Yiyi truly got into trouble, it would certainly not bode well for him.
Moreover, no matter what, he was currently the manager of a department and even a shareholder in Zhong’s Jewelry. If he couldn’t even protect his own daughter, how could he raise his head in the department in the future? Who would respect him in the company thereafter?
“Oh, what if I don’t forgive her?” Zhong Niangyao asked with a light smile. “I do not accept moral kidnapping. And–”
At this moment, Zhong Niangyao paused. She looked up directly at Liu Hao, her smile broadening, but her words that followed sent a chill running through Liu Hao’s body, “Manager Liu, if you have the time, you might want to start worrying about yourself!”
“I think, Liu Yiyi’s domineering behavior in the company must not be a first-time occurrence. And the fact that she’s so emboldened surely comes from you as her father. It shows just how ‘esteemed’ Manager Liu is within the company.”
Zhong Jinghao, who had been quietly observing all along, was no fool and clearly caught the implications of Zhong Niangyao’s words. His icy gaze swept over Liu Hao, as if considering something.
The chill Liu Hao felt from Zhong Niangyao’s words had deepened while facing the probing eyes of Zhong Jinghao, adding to his inner turmoil.
At this moment, he felt an overwhelming urge to flee. He knew all too well the skeletons in his closet that could not withstand scrutiny.
“Cousin, I think some matters within the company deserve a closer look, such as the money spent on procurement each year,” Zhong Niangyao suggested with a smile, glancing at Liu Yiyi, “I happened to encounter Miss Liu Yiyi during my trip to Myanmar. Each time she visited, she insisted on staying in the presidential suite and refused to settle for less.”
“While there, she consistently emphasized the fact that her father was a shareholder of Zhong’s Jewelry. I had no idea that Manager Liu held such power within the company.”
Liu Yiyi, though standing, now had her temples soaked with sweat. She appeared close to collapsing, as if she might faint at any second.
Liu Hao opened his mouth to defend himself, but upon seeing Zhong Jinghao’s icy gaze, he found himself speechless, unable to utter a single word.
Zhong Jinghao looked indifferently at Liu Hao and then at Liu Yiyi before his icy words came out, “Whether concerning Manager Liu or Liu Yiyi’s affairs, I will have them thoroughly investigated. If we uncover anything that harms the company’s interest, there will be no leniency.”
After speaking, he looked at Zhong Niangyao again, his tone lacking the earlier coldness, but that was all, “Alright, the master engraver should be free now; there’s no need for you to wait here anymore. I’ll take you to him.”
Zhong Niangyao shrugged her shoulders, neither agreeing nor disagreeing, and then followed Zhong Jinghao out.
The head of security, seeing this, knew he shouldn’t stay any longer.
He immediately led his team out of the reception room.
Soon, only the Liu family, three of them, remained in the vast reception room.
Liu Hao, unable to suppress the anger in his chest, suddenly stepped forward and harshly slapped Liu Yiyi, “You wretched girl, do you think life is too comfortable right now that you must look for trouble?”
“Do you have any idea how much trouble you’ve caused me?”
Now that Zhong Jinghao would investigate his activities, who knew how many of his shady dealings would come to light? Whether he could even keep his position and job was now questionable.
Although he did own shares in Zhong’s Jewelry, it only made up a small portion. His yearly dividends were significant but insufficient to sustain the lavish lifestyle of high society.
The department he managed was particularly lucrative, and over the years, he had embezzled a considerable amount of money leveraging his position.
If his actions were discovered, he didn’t know what he would do.
In that moment, his gaze toward Liu Yiyi was not that of a father looking at his daughter, but rather, an enemy.
Suddenly slapped, Liu Yiyi could feel her cheek swelling up, throbbing with excruciating pain.
But, in that moment, all she could do was silently endure the pain. Especially upon seeing her father’s hateful gaze, she shrank back, not daring to utter a word.
Because she realized how her actions today might have ruined everything her father had painstakingly built over the years.
Meanwhile, Liu Yiling, looking at Liu Yiyi’s pitiful state, felt no joy. She was also worried that their father might get into trouble.
It wasn’t out of filial piety–after all, Liu Hao had never really cared for this illegitimate daughter. What she feared was that if Liu Hao got into trouble, her own position in the company might be at risk.
On the other hand, after leaving the reception room, the atmosphere between Zhong Jinghao and Zhong Niangyao was relatively amicable.
Zhong Jinghao didn’t know why, but ever since their meaningful conversation in the garden, his views on his cousin had completely transformed. Now, he genuinely recognized and appreciated her from the bottom of his heart.
