Chapter 387 - Chapter 387 Chapter 387 Chatting
Chapter 387: Chapter 387 Chatting Chapter 387: Chapter 387 Chatting After school, Zhong Niangyao did not meet with Lu Yichen, as she needed to make a trip to Zhong’s Jewelry.
Previously, she had some jade sourced from Myanmar, some of which she had specifically set aside without processing, including one piece of fine-quality Imperial Green.
Old Sir Zhong’s birthday was approaching, and she planned to carve a decorative piece out of this Imperial Green as a birthday gift for him. However, her skills were not yet adept enough and she was afraid of wasting such fine jade, so she intended to have the master at Zhong’s Jewelry help with the carving.
She had already made an appointment with the master last night to visit today.
But, just as she arrived at the doorway, someone blocked her path. It was Meng Rou, whom she had just met yesterday.
“Is there something you need?” Zhong Niangyao looked at Meng Rou indifferently, a trace of mockery curling her lips. “I remember that we don’t have much to do with each other. Isn’t it somewhat inappropriate for you to block my way this way?”
“Zhong Niangyao, let’s find a place to talk!” Meng Rou looked at Zhong Niangyao, her tone carrying a hint of pleading. “It won’t take up much of your time, I just want to have a few words with you.”
“Then let’s just talk right here.” Zhong Niangyao appeared very casual. “Since you said it’s just a few words, let’s speak right here and save everyone’s time.”
“No.” Meng Rou seemed slightly agitated, her voice involuntarily raised a notch. However, feeling the peculiar looks from people around, she quickly lowered her voice. “Let’s find a place to sit down and talk! What I want to discuss is private, and there are too many people here. I assume you wouldn’t want to discuss your personal matters in such a public place either.”
Zhong Niangyao did not respond; she only stared steadily at Meng Rou.
It wasn’t until Meng Rou was almost unable to continue that she slowly replied, “Alright then.”
Ten minutes later–
The two sat down in a cafe near the academy.
Tenglong Academy was essentially a nobles’ school, and cafes near the school were naturally high-end. Thus, the cafe provided a very quiet environment.
Despite just having finished school, not many people were having coffee at this time, making it even quieter and more suitable for conversation.
Meng Rou was very satisfied with this environment.
The two of them took a corner seat in the cafe.
After the waiter brought their coffees, neither Zhong Niangyao nor Meng Rou started speaking. For a moment, an unnatural silence settled between them.
Finally, Meng Rou couldn’t bear it anymore, “Zhong Niangyao, you must be aware of why I’m here today.”
“How would I know?” Zhong Niangyao shrugged, feigning indifference, “You and I are hardly acquaintances. To tell the truth, we’ve barely met a few times. How could I possibly know why you’re here to see me?”
“Zhong Niangyao, you clearly know,” Meng Rou’s face flashed with embarrassment as she struggled to suppress her jealousy and anger. After taking a deep breath, she continued, “I’m here because I have a favor to ask of you.”
At this point, she raised her head, looking at Zhong Niangyao, her tone filled with sincere pleading, “I hope that you won’t tell the Lu family about my past.”
If possible, she didn’t want to have to come to Zhong Niangyao at all. But thinking back on how Zhong Niangyao looked at her last night sent shivers down her spine.
She was afraid, truly afraid that Zhong Niangyao would spill all her past secrets, and then she would never be able to step through the Lu family’s doors.
If possible, she really wanted to just kill Zhong Niangyao. As long as Zhong Niangyao was dead, all secrets would be buried.
But that was just a thought; she didn’t have the means to do it.
So, after a whole night of pondering, she decided to approach Zhong Niangyao personally this morning and beg her not to let the cat out of the bag.
Now, facing Zhong Niangyao, she felt terribly embarrassed. But for the sake of her future, to firmly hold onto Lu Yilei, she had no choice but to lower her head to Zhong Niangyao.
“If you dare to do it, why fear it being known?” Zhong Niangyao lifted the coffee in front of her and took a sip before speaking slowly, “Also, what right do you have to ask me to lie for you?”
“Exposing me, how does that benefit you?” Hearing Zhong Niangyao’s refusal, Meng Rou became urgent. “Wouldn’t it be better if our waters do not violate each other? Why must you ruin my happiness? Zhong Niangyao, you can’t be so selfish.”
“Selfish?”
Zhong Niangyao felt as if she had heard a huge joke, “Meng Rou, someone like you reproaching me, calling me selfish? Don’t you think it’s a bit ridiculous for someone so self-centered to accuse me of being selfish?”
Hearing the sarcasm in Zhong Niangyao’s words, Meng Rou was seething with anger. However, considering her leverage was still in the other’s hands, she had to suppress her rage before she spoke again. “I didn’t mean anything else; I just don’t want to lose my happiness.”
“Zhong Niangyao, I was so miserable before. Can’t you just pity me? Moreover, it wouldn’t cause you any loss, right?”
“Meng Rou, you didn’t really need to come to me,” Zhong Niangyao looked at Meng Rou sitting across from her, a cold smile playing on her lips, “I’m not interested in your affairs. However, if the Lu family asks, I won’t conceal anything.”
“You can’t,” Meng Rou’s face turned pale, “You absolutely can’t speak out. If you do, I’m really finished.”
“That’s none of my business; I won’t lie for you.” Zhong Niangyao crossed her arms in front of her chest, “You don’t have the right to make me lie for you. Moreover, don’t say whether I can or cannot. You know very well in your heart, don’t you?”
Suddenly, Meng Rou’s face became as pale as paper, her lips quivering, for a moment, not knowing what to say.
Zhong Niangyao, with an intrigued look, glanced at Meng Rou’s stomach and suddenly spoke, “I’ve heard that pregnant women should avoid coffee, as caffeine can negatively affect the baby. Aren’t you pregnant? Why are you still drinking coffee here? Or could it be that you actually–”
