Chapter 383: Chapter 383: Lu Yilei’s Girlfriend Chapter 383: Chapter 383: Lu Yilei’s Girlfriend After school, Lu Yichen came to pick up Zhong Niangyao. Today they were to have dinner together at the Lu Family’s place, which they had arranged a couple of days ago.

Soon, they arrived at the Lu Residence.

Niangyao was no stranger to the place, having been there before, and she followed Lu Yichen inside.

This visit was different from the last; there were far fewer people around–only Old Master Lu and Old Madam Lu, Uncle Lu Yihong, his wife Shi Shi, Lu Yiming, and his wife Ling Ziwei were present. Fourth Young Master of the Lu Family, Lu Yilei, had yet to arrive.

Usually, only Old Master Lu and Old Madam Lu lived at the old mansion, with the rest of the family residing elsewhere. Of course, it wasn’t that the other family members didn’t want to stay there, but rather that Old Master Lu preferred not to be disturbed by too many people.

The reason everyone had gathered today was that the playboy Fourth Young Master of the Lu Family, Lu Yilei, had found a girl he liked and planned to settle down with her. He intended to bring her over tonight. Old Master Lu already considered Zhong Niangyao to be Lu Yichen’s other half, so he had specifically invited her too.

Although Old Madam Lu and the others did not like Zhong Niangyao, they did not dare openly defy Old Master Lu.

“Nianyao is here!”

Old Master Lu was visibly pleased to see Zhong Niangyao’s arrival and immediately beckoned her to sit down.

Not being pretentious, Nianyao swiftly took a seat on the couch next to Lu Yichen.

The presence of Old Master Lu acted as a stabilizing force, and while those present might have disapproved of Zhong Niangyao, they dared not openly do anything against her. They even engaged in pleasant conversation with her.

Before long, a servant came in, “Old Master, Old Madam, the Fourth Master has arrived.”

Old Madam Lu sounded delighted at the news of Lu Yilei’s arrival, “Fourth Master is here! I wonder which family’s daughter he has brought back. But I’m certain that Fourth Master’s choice must be impeccable.”

As she spoke, her eyes fleetingly fell upon Zhong Niangyao, the insinuation in her gaze quite evident.

Zhong Niangyao didn’t even glance at Old Madam Lu, as if the latter didn’t exist at all.

She thought it ridiculous. Since the Old Madam hadn’t mentioned any names, why should she embarrass herself by reacting? Besides, with Old Master Lu present, Old Madam Lu, no matter how dissatisfied, could only swallow her grievances. What was there for her to be unhappy about?

Moreover, she rather enjoyed seeing Old Madam Lu’s displeasure towards her, impotent to act on it. It was genuinely amusing.

Niangyao showed no reaction, but Lu Yichen did not share her patience. He shot Old Madam Lu a look, a trace of frost flashing across his eyes.

He thought that Old Madam Lu must have been too idle lately; perhaps her maternal family didn’t have enough troubles to occupy her. If her maternal family had more issues to deal with, she likely wouldn’t have the time or interest to meddle in others’ affairs.

It wasn’t long before Lu Yilei walked in with his girlfriend.

Upon seeing the demure and charming girl clinging to Lu Yilei, a corner of Zhong Niangyao’s mouth lifted and a flicker of curiosity crossed her eyes.

So, it was someone she knew!

The girl next to Lu Yilei contracted her pupils and a flash of panic appeared in her eyes when she saw Zhong Niangyao. However, she quickly averted her gaze and swiftly adjusted her emotions so that no one could detect her unease.

“Dad, Mom!” Lu Yilei introduced the girl by his side with a beaming smile, “This is Meng Rou, my girlfriend.”

He then proceeded to introduce his family members to Meng Rou, “Xiao Rou, these are my parents, as well as my eldest brother and sister-in-law, second brother and sister-in-law, third brother, and his girlfriend Lady Zhong.”

Meng Rou’s lips curled into an appropriate smile as she greeted each person in turn. Her demure appearance was indeed endearing.

However, the reception from everyone was far from warm.

Even Old Madam Lu’s expression was unfavorable. As she looked at Meng Rou, her eyes were filled with dissatisfaction–discontentment with this, discontentment with that.

Before, she had pressed Lu Yilei about which family’s daughter the girl was from. But Lu Yilei had not given her an answer, only mentioning the need for secrecy and that all would be revealed upon meeting her. He had assured her, however, that the girl was definitely a good one.

After receiving Lu Yilei’s response, Old Madam Lu did not probe further. She trusted her youngest son’s judgment; he would never choose an unsuitable woman.

But to her dismay, her youngest son had indeed brought home a girl who was not to her liking.

Meng Rou–the name was unheard of, and within the prominent families of the Imperial Capital, there was no Meng Family. Clearly, Meng Rou was not from one of those distinguished families.

Although her attire was passable, it was evident she was from an ordinary wealthy family at best. Such a girl, how could she be a match for their Lu Family!

Lu Yilei was completely oblivious to Old Madam Lu’s cold demeanor; he had already taken a seat on the sofa, cheerfully wrapping an arm around Meng Rou.

Meng Rou sat next to Lu Yilei, the picture of a thoughtful and polite young woman.

What no one knew was that Meng Rou had broken out in a cold sweat, and her heart was pounding with anxiety.

Others may not have noticed, but Lu Yichen, seated beside her, could clearly sense Zhong Niangyao’s restless mind. He leaned in close to whisper in her ear, “You know her?”

“Yes,” Zhong Niangyao saw no need to hide it, “She was a client from before who was haunted by an infant baby after having an abortion.”
