Chapter 364: Chapter 366: A Private Conversation Chapter 364: Chapter 366: A Private Conversation “Let’s go in and see,” Zhong Niangyao took the lead, “I really want to see what he has to say to me.”
The two walked in together.
As Hu Jiu sat on the interrogation chair and saw Lu Yichen’s arrival, he shivered involuntarily, as if he had remembered something terrifying.
On the contrary, when he saw Zhong Niangyao, his eyes revealed uncontrollable excitement, as if he had seen his savior.
Seeing Hu Jiu’s attitude, Zhong Niangyao frowned, a trace of confusion flashing in her eyes.
Although she didn’t know what Lu Yichen had done to the fox spirit in the past, she was certain that she and this fox spirit had fiercely fought. She couldn’t remember the outcome now, but that didn’t prevent her from knowing that there was definitely an antagonistic relationship between them.
Zhong Niangyao and Lu Yichen took their seats directly across from Hu Jiu.
“It was you who requested my presence, wasn’t it?”
Zhong Niangyao was the first to speak. She didn’t beat around the bush and went straight to the point, “I’m here now, so can you tell me where the girl is?”
It was vital to find that girl quickly, otherwise it would be hard to say whether they’d find her dead or alive.
Hu Jiu looked at Zhong Niangyao, then glanced at Lu Yichen before speaking, “I will only talk to you alone. If others are present, I won’t say anything.”
Clearly, the “others” he mentioned referred to Lu Yichen.
“Impossible.” Lu Yichen’s voice was icy as he declared, “If you won’t speak, then we will just perform a Soul Search.”
This was indeed the quickest method. If Hu Jiu continued to refuse to talk, they intended to use this approach. However, this method had its drawbacks, which was why they had first tried to make Hu Jiu speak.
This was the reason why Zhong Niangyao was there.
“You can indeed perform a Soul Search,” Hu Jiu said calmly. “But before you do, I would have already killed myself. Although I’ve lost all my cultivation now, suicide is not difficult for me.”
In an instant, an intense chill emanated from Lu Yichen, his gaze toward Hu Jiu filled with barely concealed murderous intent.
Hu Jiu was fearful, yet he tried to keep himself composed and refused to show any weakness.
After all, the worst outcome now was just death. So, he had nothing to fear.
“Lu Yichen, why don’t you step outside,” Zhong Niangyao suggested, looking at Lu Yichen beside her, “I’ll have a chat with him.”
Lu Yichen frowned deeply, not in agreement, “That’s impossible, I must stay here with you.”
The past incident was a lesson, and he could not possibly leave Zhong Niangyao alone with Hu Jiu now. Even knowing that Hu Jiu had lost all his cultivation and was less than an ordinary person, he still did not feel at ease.
Foxes were always cunning, and Hu Jiu, an old fox spirit of a thousand years, was even more so. He couldn’t possibly agree.
“It will be fine.” Zhong Niangyao assured with a smile, “I’m sure there won’t be any problems. Besides, this place is a special department. You can just wait outside the door for me, and if anything really happens, you can come in right away!”
“No,” Lu Yichen shook his head, then coaxed with a hint of persuasion, “This fox spirit is no good person, especially this one in front of us. If he deceives you later, I’m afraid you’ll be at a disadvantage.”
“You’re overthinking it,” Zhong Niangyao couldn’t help but roll her eyes, speaking with some exasperation, “I wasn’t deceived by his seductive technique even before he lost his cultivation, let alone now when he has lost all of it. Just look at him now; how could I possibly be at a disadvantage? You’re underestimating me!”
In the end, yielding to Zhong Niangyao’s insistence, Lu Yichen stepped outside. Before leaving, he repeatedly instructed that he would stay at the door and if anything happened, she was to quickly come out or call for help.
Finally, only Zhong Niangyao and Hu Jiu were left in the interrogation room.
“Alright, now it’s just the two of us,” Zhong Niangyao sat down and looked at Hu Jiu across from her, her eyes devoid of much emotion. “I’ve met your request, so now you should spill everything, shouldn’t you?”
“Let’s not rush those matters,” Hu Jiu said while intently looking at Zhong Niangyao’s face, and then he asked with a choked tone at the end, “Who exactly are you?”
This strange question left Zhong Niangyao momentarily stunned, then feeling a bit odd, “What kind of question is that? Didn’t you know who I was when you kidnapped me?”
“And, I’m not standing here to listen to your nonsense. Where exactly did you hide the girl?”
Instead of answering Zhong Niangyao’s question, Hu Jiu changed the subject, “Do you know? In our Fox Clan, we are led by the Nine-tailed Fox. The Nine-tailed Fox is the most precious to our Fox Clan. It’s just that, a thousand years ago, the last Nine-tailed Fox in our Fox Clan, our little Your Highness, perished.”
Hearing Hu Jiu talk about these utterly unrelated and obscure matters made Zhong Niangyao frown.
It should have been just a few simple words, yet these words managed to stir a ripple deep within her heart. There shouldn’t be any connection to her, so why the sensation?
Hu Jiu didn’t look at Zhong Niangyao but continued speaking to himself.
“If our little Your Highness was still alive, our Fox Clan could have lived happier lives! We…”
Zhong Niangyao listened quietly, expressing no opinion.
Only after Hu Jiu stopped talking did she speak again, “Alright, I’ve heard what you have to say. Now hurry up and tell us where that girl is. And where are the bodies of those harmed girls located?”
Seeing Zhong Niangyao’s indifferent demeanor, disappointment flashed through Hu Jiu’s eyes, but he caved in and confessed the whereabouts of the girls.
Having got the answer she wanted, Zhong Niangyao stood up without hesitation and walked out. But just as she had risen, Hu Jiu called out to her again.
“Is there something else?”
Zhong Niangyao turned back, only to catch Hu Jiu’s action, “What are you doing?”
At that moment, Hu Jiu had one hand plunged into his own abdomen, and immediately, he pulled out a blood-drenched Bead.
