Chapter 350 - Chapter 350 Chapter 350 Coercion Against Ones Will
Chapter 350: Chapter 350: Coercion Against One’s Will Chapter 350: Chapter 350: Coercion Against One’s Will “Second daughter-in-law,” Old Sir Zhong began, his tone rather stern, “watch your choice of words. What does this matter with the child have to do with Nianyao? Why must you insist on involving her?”
This question brought out the doubts of everyone present.
Watching Li Yiqiu, she seemed quite confident that Zhong Niangyao could help the child. But why was she so certain? Was it really just because Zhong Niangyao had saved her once before?
Such an explanation seemed rather far-fetched.
“No, Zhong Niangyao has a way, she really does,” Li Yiqiu insisted firmly. “As long as she’s willing to help, the child will definitely get better. Then he will be able to live a healthy and normal life.”
“Little sister, you are asking for too much,” even Zheng Silin, who had been quiet, couldn’t help but speak out. “Niangyao is not a living goddess, how could she possibly do such a thing!”
Despite their less-than-cordial personal relations, they maintained a tolerable facade. Thus, during Li Yiqiu’s hospitalization, she had visited.
During the hospital visit, she had asked the doctors about the child’s condition. The doctors had told her that the child had struggled since being in the womb and was born prematurely. Even if he were to recover, he would still be prone to illness, never being able to live like a healthy normal person.
Now, Li Yiqiu was asking Zhong Niangyao, a college student who hadn’t yet graduated, to accomplish something even the doctors couldn’t achieve. This was clearly an unreasonable demand.
Not only Zheng Silin, but others shared the same thoughts. Even Zhong Mingyu, the husband, disagreed with Li Yiqiu’s approach.
“Who told you this?” asked Zhong Niangyao with a wry smile. “Even I didn’t know I had such abilities. Second Aunt, you seem to understand me better than I understand myself!”
Realizing she had misspoken, Li Yiqiu gave a forced smile and quickly said, “I didn’t mean anything by it. I just hope you can help your little cousin, for the sake of family.”
“If I really had such abilities, I wouldn’t be sitting here,” Zhong Niangyao shook her head, amused. “To achieve that would require divine power!”
The child was born prematurely, innately deficient. Even with careful nurturing, it wouldn’t be possible for him to be normal. Of course, there were other methods, like defying fate, or like Zhao Xuanglang’s situation, exchanging lives with someone else.
However, any such method would be dark and sinister, bound to bring bad karma. She absolutely wouldn’t engage in such acts.
Li Yiqiu opened her mouth as if wanting to add something, but Old Sir Zhong cut her off.
“Second daughter-in-law, what you need to do now is rest,” Old Sir Zhong’s stern gaze fell on Li Yiqiu. “The child will receive the best care in the hospital. Once he is discharged, we will provide him with the best treatment. A professional nutritionist will help him recover his health. You needn’t worry too much. Also–”
“No more unreasonable requests,” he added.
Feeling the displeasure from Old Sir and the restraint from her husband, Li Yiqiu, although reluctant, didn’t dare to say anything further and swallowed her grievances.
“Dad, Yiqiu is tired. I’ll help her to her room to rest,” said Zhong Mingyu, intervening. He turned to Zhong Niangyao and spoke with an apologetic tone, “Nianyao, your Second Aunt just got out of the hospital and isn’t thinking clearly. Don’t take the nonsense she said to heart.”
Zhong Niangyao nodded and didn’t say anything more.
After Li Yiqiu’s outburst, the atmosphere in the living room, which had been quite pleasant, suddenly became tensed.
Even with Li Yiqiu’s departure, the atmosphere didn’t lighten, so everyone gradually dispersed to attend to their own affairs.
Upstairs, in the room–
Zhong Mingyu, looking at Li Yiqiu who was now half-lying on the bed, spoke discontentedly, “What were you doing downstairs just now? Couldn’t you see that mom and dad were already very upset?”
“Why are you blaming me without even asking what happened?” Li Yiqiu was visibly upset. “I did what I did for the sake of our son!”
It had been difficult for her to have a child at her age, and yet the child was frail and weak; she just couldn’t accept that.
“You think pressuring Zhong Niangyao will help our son?” Zhong Mingyu laughed as if he had heard a joke. “What can Niangyao do? Our son has congenital deficiencies. The doctors have said that he can only slowly recover through careful nurturing.”
With good care, even a weak child could live a full life.
In ordinary families, such a child might struggle to survive, but in their wealthy family, he would receive the best care and certainly not die young.
“Zhong Niangyao can do it,” Li Yiqiu’s hands tightly clenched the blanket. “When I was at the hospital, a mysterious woman told me that Niangyao has the power to make our son healthy. It’s just that Niangyao is unwilling.”
“A mysterious woman?” Zhong Mingyu frowned. “What mysterious woman? Why haven’t you mentioned her before?”
“I don’t know where she’s from, but she said that Niangyao has her own mysterious ways to help our son,” Li Yiqiu spoke with conviction. “If this weren’t the case, I wouldn’t have brought it up today.”
“That’s utterly ridiculous,” Zhong Mingyu scoffed. “You believe the words of some stranger. What abilities does Niangyao have that we don’t know about? We’ve watched her grow up since she was a child.”
“But, we don’t really understand her!” Zhong Mengxuan suddenly spoke up. “Dad, Mom, do you think you truly understand Niangyao? Haven’t we always thought of her as worthless? But with all that has happened at home recently, is there anything that wasn’t related to her?”
“Don’t interrupt,” Zhong Mingyu glared at Zhong Mengxuan. “You better not forget that you are the main reason your brother turned out this way.”
