Chapter 348 - Chapter 348 Chapter 348 Discharge
Chapter 348: Chapter 348 Discharge Chapter 348: Chapter 348 Discharge After settling the matter with the Zeng Family, Zhong Niangyao and Zhao Xuanglang left.
As for Liu Zihan, he went straight home since he needed to report the situation to his mother.
On the way, Zhao Xuanglang kept pestering Zhong Niangyao with questions, but she simply threw him a line telling him to ask Liu Zihang, and then she left on her own.
Seeing Zhong Niangyao’s attitude, Zhao Xuanglang didn’t dare to continue his inquiries.
After leaving the Zeng Family, Zhong Niangyao didn’t return to her stall near Tongtian Bridge but went straight home instead.
Upon entering her house, she noticed that the Zhong Family appeared especially lively today, even Zhong Mengxuan, whom they hadn’t seen for several days, was back.
It turned out that today was the day Li Yiqiu was discharged from the hospital. However, due to the child’s premature birth, many of his organs had not yet fully developed, so he needed to remain in an incubator for further observation.
Since Old Sir Zhong had announced that he would no longer handle matters concerning Zhong Mengxuan, she had rarely come home and spent most of her time living in the villa that Lu Chenran had bought for her.
Today, although Zhong Mengxuan had come back, everyone’s attitude towards her was visibly cold, including Old Sir Zhong, her own father. Only Li Yiqiu, as the mother, made a few warm inquiries, but it was evident that the usual warmth was gone.
Watching Li Yiqiu sitting in the center of the living room surrounded by people, Zhong Niangyao arched an eyebrow, finding it amusing.
After Li Yiqiu returned home, she surprisingly didn’t go to rest in her room but stayed in the living room, chatting with everyone and maintaining that facade of familial affection. What was she really aiming at?
Old Sir Zhong and Old Madam Zhong were also sitting there; they weren’t too concerned with other matters. Seeing Li Yiqiu discharged from the hospital today genuinely brought them joy, which could be seen from the warm smiles on their faces.
“Nianyao’s back!” Zheng Silin, sharp-eyed, spotted Zhong Niangyao and immediately spoke, “Are you back from a date with Third Young Master Lu? Why so early today, not staying out longer?”
Instantly, everyone’s attention turned towards Zhong Niangyao.
Facing the various speculative looks from the crowd, Zhong Niangyao’s lips curved into a slight smile. She slowly walked into the living room, found a spot to sit, and then spoke, “I see Second Aunt got discharged today! I hadn’t heard about it before!”
“Yes! Sister-in-law was indeed in too much of a hurry,” Zheng Silin looked at Zhong Mengxuan before continuing, “Sister-in-law’s premature birth really weakened her a lot. She should indeed have stayed in the hospital for further observation.”
Hearing Zheng Silin mention the premature birth, Old Sir Zhong and Old Madam Zhong’s expressions momentarily darkened. However, remembering that today was supposed to be a celebration, they ultimately held back their anger. They didn’t even glance at Zhong Mengxuan, treating their granddaughter as if she didn’t exist.
“It was a sudden decision,” Li Yiqiu’s expression remained unchanged, though her hands resting on her knees were imperceptibly clenched into fists, “The doctor checked me today and said my body has mostly recovered. I didn’t want to stay in the hospital any longer, so after consulting with the doctor, I decided to come home.”
“And besides, I feel that it’s more convenient to be at home. So, I decided to come back to recuperate.”
She was aware that Zheng Silin’s remarks were aimed to sow discord. But with the two elderly present, she refrained from making any retorts.
Moreover, to be honest, she felt quite chilled by Zhong Mengxuan’s actions this time.
Since childhood, she had doted on her daughter and raised her with great care. But when her own health was poor and the pregnancy unstable, her daughter had instead demanded a share of the family assets, directly challenging her unborn brother.
Seeing Zhong Mengxuan’s haggard appearance today, she indeed felt pity. However, recalling her daughter’s aggressive demands that day, she found it hard to forgive her.
“Then, sister-in-law really needs to take good care of herself,” Zheng Silin covered her mouth with a smirk, continuing, “Because of what happened this time, your health has really suffered! But, speaking of which, it’s the child who is the most unfortunate. So young, yet he already has to endure so much hardship.”
“It would have been much better if he could have been born full-term! Then he would definitely be a healthy baby.”
Zhong Mingyu and Li Yiqiu’s expressions shifted slightly, their smiles nearly failing to hold.
They knew well that this child was now a sore spot in their hearts.
Especially for Zhong Mingyu, who had always hoped for a son to continue the family business. Now, although he had a son, the early birth meant, according to the doctors, that his son would always be physically weaker than normal people. Even with the most careful care, he would likely have lasting health issues.
Thinking of this, his look towards Zhong Mengxuan grew even grimmer.
However, he also knew that now was not the time to lash out at Zhong Mengxuan. Otherwise, it wouldn’t just be Zhong Mengxuan who would be ridiculed–it could become a blemish on their entire branch of the family.
“First daughter-in-law,” Old Master Zhong looked towards Zheng Silin, his tone was light but filled with authority, “Mind your words. Don’t speak without thinking.”
Old Master Zhong and Old Madam Zhong were both advanced in years and had weathered many storms. How could they not see through Zheng Silin’s little ploy?
They indeed didn’t take these minor squabbles to heart. However, if she really instigated a serious conflict, they certainly wouldn’t just sit idly by.
Perhaps because she was cautioned, Zheng Silin looked somewhat sullen and refrained from saying more.
“Alright, Second Daughter-in-law, you’ve been back for a while and must be tired,” Old Master Zhong spoke directly, “Go upstairs and rest!”
“Yes!” Old Madam Zhong also spoke, “You’re still in confinement, hurry back to your room! Don’t catch a chill outside; it can affect you for life.”
Just as everyone was about to disperse, Li Yiqiu quickly spoke, “Dad, Mom, actually, there’s something today for which I’d like to ask for Nianyao’s help. Since you’re both here, please help persuade her.”
Until then, Zhong Niangyao, who had been unconcerned, was caught off guard by Li Yiqiu’s words.
