Chapter 322 - Chapter 322 Chapter 322 Discussing Terms
Chapter 322: Chapter 322 Discussing Terms Chapter 322: Chapter 322 Discussing Terms Zhong Niangyao knew that Zhong Mengxuan’s visit this time must not be for a simple reason. Otherwise, it would have been impossible for her to endure without retorting to Mengxuan’s sarcastic remarks.
She didn’t speak again, instead sitting quietly on the sofa, waiting for Zhong Mengxuan to reveal her purpose.
Seeing that Niangyao didn’t speak again, Mengxuan actually felt somewhat uneasy. Especially since the room was extraordinarily quiet, even the sound of their heartbeats could be clearly heard.
Niangyao, however, was in no hurry, just quietly watching Mengxuan.
It was uncertain how much time had passed before Mengxuan finally spoke. “Zhong Niangyao, are you going to the Lu Family banquet tonight?”
“You already knew all about it last night, didn’t you?” Niangyao spoke up. “Are you here today to confirm something?”
“No,” Mengxuan’s eyes flashed with a vicious glint, and then she spoke. “Zhong Niangyao, I want you to do something for me.”
That sense of entitlement, as if Niangyao were her subordinate.
Niangyao remained unangry, merely speaking indifferently, “I refuse.”
Such a response was utterly beyond Mengxuan’s expectations; she asked anxiously, “You don’t even know what I want you to do, so why do you outright refuse?”
She had considered the possibility that Niangyao would ask what it was about, or refuse after knowing. But she had never imagined that Niangyao would so directly and coldly reject her without even hearing the details.
“No matter what it is, I refuse.” Niangyao leaned back and spoke softly, “Moreover, Zhong Mengxuan, surely your memory isn’t that poor! Our relationship isn’t the kind where we can help each other out.”
She truly didn’t understand where Mengxuan had found such courage to ask for her help in such an entitled tone.
Although nominally they were cousins, their relationship was far from good, parting on bad terms nearly every time they met.
So, Niangyao really couldn’t comprehend where Mengxuan found the audacity to make such a demand.
“Zhong Niangyao, no matter how bad our relationship is, it doesn’t change the fact that we share the same blood.” Mengxuan narrowed her eyes and continued, “We are blood relatives, and that’s an unchangeable fact. If one prospers, both prosper; if one is harmed, both are harmed. If I’m having a hard time, it doesn’t reflect well on you either, does it?”
“Oh, well, I’m sorry, but I don’t feel the same way,” Niangyao replied with a shrug, unconcerned, “What happens to you is irrelevant to me. If you’re not well, I don’t care.”
“You–”
Watching Niangyao’s indifferent and heartless demeanor, Mengxuan felt an intense hatred but, considering her purpose for coming, she managed to suppress her displeasure and continued, “You reject my request without even asking what it is?”
“Does it matter?” Niangyao asked coolly, “No matter what you want me to do, I refuse. And–”
She looked up, her gaze landing on the murderous intent flickering in Mengxuan’s eyes, a cold smile forming on her lips as she continued, “I can be sure whatever you want me to do isn’t anything good, it might even be something utterly unscrupulous. After all, although we’re cousins, our relationship is not that great. If it were a good thing, you would never come to me.”
“You– ” Mengxuan clenched her teeth and finally spoke, “Zhong Niangyao, since it is like this, how about we make a deal? I dare say I’ve got something you want. Just help me with one thing.”
After hearing Mengxuan’s offer, a glint of interest flashed in Niangyao’s eyes, “Oh, I’d like to see what kind of bargaining chip you have in your hand. Let’s hear it; I might really be tempted!”
“Just promise me, and I will certainly bring it out,” Mengxuan said with determination, “Zhong Niangyao, the favor I ask of you will be effortless for you. As long as you agree, the reward I offer will be sure to satisfy you.”
“If it’s such an easy task, why don’t you do it yourself?” Niangyao asked laughingly, “Or are you trying to push me into a trap?”
“If I could do it myself, I wouldn’t be here negotiating with you.” Mengxuan said through gritted teeth, “But this task is definitely easy for you.”
“Then let’s hear it!” Niangyao said with a nonchalant air, “I’d like to know what this monumental effort to negotiate with me is all about.”
“It’s simple, I want you–” Mengxuan’s eyes held an even stronger murderous intent, “to create an ‘accident’ and cause Long Jiarui to have a miscarriage.”
Long Jiarui was Lu Chenran’s legitimate wife and was now pregnant. If she gave birth to a boy, any sons Mengxuan might have would never compare.
Moreover, if Jiarui had a child before her, Mengxuan’s situation would become very difficult.
The only solution now was to eliminate the child in Jiarui’s womb. Then, Mengxuan would try to conceive again before Jiarui, securing her own future.
Of course, in the depths of her heart, there was a darker thought. Her first child had been aborted out of dire necessity, all because of that highborn Long Jiarui. Now, she wanted Jiarui to taste the same bitterness.
Jiarui was Lu Chenran’s legitimate wife, the great young lady of the Lu Family, and the young miss of the Long Family. None of these statuses were accessible to her now.
The only person who could carry out this deed was Zhong Niangyao. Niangyao was going to the Lu family banquet today, presenting an excellent opportunity. And the thought of Jiarui losing her child at such a joyful moment would be particularly satisfying for Mengxuan.
After hearing Mengxuan’s words, the calm on Niangyao’s face was shattered; when she looked at Mengxuan, it was as if she were staring at a madwoman. “Zhong Mengxuan, do you realize what you’re saying?”
“Of course, I do,” Mengxuan’s eyes gleamed fiercely, “I want to get rid of the child in Long Jiarui’s womb. I absolutely cannot let her give birth to this child.”
Seeing Mengxuan’s state, Niangyao straightforwardly said, “You are quite ruthless. But this is something I don’t see myself doing, so you might just save your breath continuing here.”
