Chapter 288 - Chapter 288 Chapter 288 Two Choices
Chapter 288: Chapter 288 Two Choices Chapter 288: Chapter 288 Two Choices After hearing the elder lady’s words, even though Qiu Yan was unwilling, she had no choice but to nod at Zhong Niangyao, “Master, please have a look for me.”
Zhong Niangyao could see the other’s distrust, and she said with a smile, “Whether you want to consult or not is your decision, you don’t need to force yourself for the sake of others.”
“Master, please have a look for me,” Qiu Yan’s face showed a bitter smile, “Actually, I also want to know if I still have a chance to become a mother.”
In truth, she was very conflicted. After so many years of marriage, she had visited the hospital countless times and tried many folk remedies, but she still couldn’t get pregnant.
Because of this, at home, whether it was her in-laws or her husband, they all gave her cold looks daily and mocked her as a hen that couldn’t lay eggs. She felt like a criminal. Everyone blamed the responsibility of not being able to have children on her, making her feel suffocated.
Her family had also persuaded her to divorce and not continue like this. But she didn’t dare, fearing that if she really got divorced and returned to her family, she would cause her family to lose face.
Zhong Niangyao nodded and then pointed to the seat opposite her, “Then please take a seat.”
The elder lady immediately got up and then pressed Qiu Yan to sit down.
Zhong Niangyao asked Qiu Yan to stretch out her right hand and after carefully examining her palmistry and face, she raised her head to look at the elder lady and inquired, “Elder lady, do you have a photo of your son?”
Hearing Zhong Niangyao’s question, the elder lady was quite surprised, “Why do you want to see my son’s photo? You just need to look at my daughter-in-law! It’s she who has to give birth, not my son. What does it have to do with my son?”
Zhong Niangyao felt somewhat speechless, “So what you mean is, it doesn’t matter if the child isn’t your son’s, is that right?”
“How could that be!” The elder lady’s voice suddenly rose several notches, “Master, even if you are a ‘little god,’ you can’t say such things!”
While speaking, she couldn’t help but glance at her daughter-in-law.
“Then show me a photo of your son.” Zhong Niangyao spoke, “That way I can find out when exactly they can have children.”
It was clear that this daughter-in-law named Qiu Yan must have suffered a lot from her in-laws regarding the child’s issue. However, Qiu Yan was probably bearing it all due to a sense of guilt. If things were really as Zhong Niangyao had guessed, then this family was probably going to be in turmoil.
The elder lady, unsure whether she found Zhong Niangyao’s words reasonable or not, quickly dug out her son’s photo from her phone and handed it to Zhong Niangyao, “Little god, this is my son, handsome, isn’t he! There were plenty of girls chasing after him back in the day, but he had to like someone who couldn’t have children. If he’d married someone else, maybe I’d already be holding a grandchild by now.”
While she spoke, the look she gave Qiu Yan was full of disdain.
Qiu Yan’s smile grew even more bitter, and she didn’t dare make a sound to refute.
Zhong Niangyao looked at the photo on the camera, just a man with a decent appearance, certainly not handsome.
After a glance, Zhong Niangyao looked again at the young wife sitting across from her and spoke, “Do you want to be a mother?”
“I do, I really do,” Qiu Yan immediately replied, her tone laced with eagerness, “Whatever it takes to have a child, I’m willing to do anything.”
She had once wanted a child desperately because of the stares from those around her. But after all she had been through, seeing her friends become parents one by one, she truly yearned for a child of her own. Unrelated to anything else, she wanted a continuation of her own life, to experience motherhood, to feel the fullness of life.
“Between the child and your current marriage, how will you choose?” Zhong Niangyao asked again.
At such a question, both the elder lady and Qiu Yan were taken aback, looking towards Zhong Niangyao with a hint of disbelief in their eyes.
A guess vaguely formed in Qiu Yan’s mind, “Master, are you suggesting–”
She didn’t know if her conjecture was true. If it were, what then would all the suffering she had endured over the years mean? And what of the years she had lived like a sinner?
“Little god, what do you mean by this?”
The elder lady wasn’t foolish; she naturally understood what Zhong Niangyao meant. She stepped forward, forcefully slammed the table, and said with anger in her tone, “Are you implying that the inability to have children is my son’s problem?”
Her ferocious gaze seemed to say that if Zhong Niangyao dared to affirm, she would flip the table the next second.
Zhong Niangyao paid no attention to the elder lady. She looked towards Qiu Yan and continued, “If you stay with your current husband, you are destined to be childless for life. However, if you divorce him, you will have another marriage, and in the future, you will have a son and a daughter. You’ll have a harmonious marital life, with a devoted husband, filial children, and grandchildren playing at your feet.”
She could tell that this young wife, named Qiu Yan, was a diligent and kind person. Despite life’s many frustrations, she still managed to keep a kind heart and had helped others whenever she could.
So, she was willing to reveal the outcomes of both choices to her.
When Qiu Yan heard the first part of Zhong Niangyao’s words, her eyes filled with sorrow. But upon hearing the latter part, hope reignited in her eyes, even a touch of expectation. She longed for that kind of life, the one she had dreamt of, so different from the hellish days she was currently living through.
“You God Stick.”
Seeing Qiu Yan’s reaction, panic surged through the elder lady. Turning back to Zhong Niangyao, her trust had vanished, replaced with resentment, “You dare spout nonsense here, even inciting my son and daughter-in-law to divorce, I won’t let you get away with this.”
With that, she attempted to overturn Zhong Niangyao’s table.
But no matter how hard she tried, the table seemed immovable.
Looking up, she saw a pair of cold eyes devoid of any warmth, and the elder lady suddenly found it difficult to breathe. A strong sense of fear rose within her, and the instinct to survive made her release her grip immediately, stepping back with terror visible on her face.
