Chapter 13: Interrogation
Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Interrogation
Inside the ward.
Rong Zhi was nestled on the sofa not far from the hospital bed, holding a phone in one hand, legs crossed on the coffee table. Her fingers lazily tapped on the phone case, eyes filled with a cold arrogance, a rebellious curve on her lips.
Zeus’s voice was in her ear.
"...I received the address you gave me. The police have already been dispatched. It should take an hour to get results..."
He paused, cautiously saying: "President Fei, for such a small matter, you actually had to handle it personally."
Not long ago, Rong Zhi had said she would leave this matter entirely to him.
Yet, less than two hours later, Rong Zhi sent over a string of addresses, precise down to the house number, almost throwing a list at his face, ordering him to make the arrests.
Zeus, having worked with her many times, knew well this master’s temperament, as reckless and unrestrained as her name suggested.
Even having known her for so long, Zeus dared not claim he had truly understood her ways.
For her to take action personally, unless the task was difficult or peculiar, it meant someone had offended her!
Such a situation was akin to pulling a tiger’s whiskers, asking for death.
Zeus said a few more words before he had to go handle the information with the police, then hung up the phone.
Rong Zhi held the phone, leaning back, her eyes gently closed.
Bai Su pushed open the ward door and saw the youth’s weary face, paused his steps, and then quietly placed the midnight snack on the bedside table before leaving the ward.
Outside the door.
Bai Su unlocked his phone, found the browser with the W symbol, and tapped in.
...
The next morning, Rong Zhi was awakened by a string of phone calls.
She frowned, reached for the phone that had slipped to her side, slowly lifted her eyelids to look at the screen, and slid her finger down to hang up.
The caller seemed surprised that she dared to hang up, and called back after a few seconds, the ringtone like a death knell.
Rong Zhi suddenly opened her eyes, a cold fierceness in them, her face very somber.
After hanging up again, she directly blocked the number.
On the hospital bed, Rong Jiazze had not yet woken up.
She tugged at the slightly skewed collar of her hoodie, exhaled a breath of stale air, and got up to walk to the bathroom.
Looking up, the mirror reflected the weary face of the youth, with finely-crafted fox-like eyes spreading tiny blood vessels, the corner of the eye tinted red, appearing both bewitching and rebellious.
Cold water splashed on her face, droplets sliding over, adding a chill to that tint of red.
Rong Zhi blinked, her mind slowly clearing.
After washing her face, she casually brushed the half-damp bangs upwards, and left the ward.
Outside, Bai Su and Jiang Gujun were nowhere to be seen; she didn’t care much.
Rong Zhi walked to the duty room, intending to ask a nurse for a caregiver.
"Nurse sister."
The youth’s morning voice was hoarse, low and enchanting.
The nurse organizing the shift schedule felt her ears tingle at the sound, a soft itch spreading, raised her head, and a face more dazzling than the sun hit her eyes, leaving her stunned, mouth slowly forming an O shape.
Oh my, is this face too good looking?! Is he a star?
Rong Zhi tapped the counter with his fingers, his tone gentle, "Nurse sister, could you help me find a caregiver, someone gentle by nature, preferably with experience in taking care of children and understands sign language."
The nurse, shocked back to her senses by the tapping, hurriedly nodded: "Sure, sure, I’ll contact someone for you right away."
Rong Zhi left her contact information with her.
The nurse watched the arrogant, free-spirited back of the youth, unable to stop herself from feeling infatuated.
So handsome!
...
The morning sunlight filtered through the flowers’ lattice windows, casting delicate shadows in the hall.
Before reaching the hall, a woman’s sharp and angry voice echoed out, startling a flock of birds in the yard.
"I said not to bring her back, Dad wouldn’t listen to me, couldn’t you persuade him?! She’s only been at the Rong Family for a few days and dares to run out in the middle of the night without coming back! Next time, will she not return home at all and run wild outside?"
"With her unruly behavior, if she offends the wrong people in Beijing, how will you handle it?"
Rong Zhi stood in the corridor, taking in all the scolding.
She bit a candy in her lips, her outfit changed to a different one.
Inside the hall.
Ying Man was getting more anxious as she scolded, the etiquette of a noblewoman vanished entirely at this moment.
It was Rong Xian’an who eventually interrupted her with a deep voice.
"Enough with the noise!"
Ying Man choked up, her face turning blue.
She had just awoken in the morning to news from the Rong Family that Third Young Master was missing, and rushed over without breakfast, filled with frustration.
Having made seven or eight calls that Rong Zhi cut off and even blocked her, it was hard not to lose her temper.
Her fury was enough to satiate an empty stomach!
Ying Man tightly closed her eyes to calm herself, thinking it fortunate the other two children were not present, otherwise Rong Zhi might lead them astray!
Rong Xian’an seeing her like this, was not much better off himself.
He was thoroughly irritated.
His wife was right, in a place as precious as Beijing, bumping into someone on the street might mean crossing a major figure or family, and Rong Zhi, new to this place, unfamiliar with anything, was most likely to cause trouble.
Based on his understanding over the past two days, he knew she was a thorn, always causing trouble wherever she went.
The Rong Family, now a shadow of its former self, had to tread carefully with every step, or else the Ying and Shen Families would immediately blow things up, aiming to remove them from the four major families.
This was one reason why he was reluctant to bring Rong Zhi back.
This uncultured, ignorant son would only cause him more trouble.
Rong Xian’an ordered bodyguard Yao Guang to go find her.
As Yao Fang turned around to carry out the order, a shadow was cast in front of him.
Blinking up dumbly, he saw a tall figure lazily leaning against the door, with a lollipop in his mouth, his face exceedingly indifferent.
"...Third Young Master, you’re back?!"
Rong Zhi leisurely clicked his tongue: "I haven’t even left, how am I back?"
Yao Fang pursed his lips at the words, internally feeling highly sarcastic.
You’ve been out all night, claiming you didn’t leave, who are you fooling?
"Where the hell have you been?!"
High heels clattered against the marble floor as Ying Man hurried toward Rong Zhi, Yao Fang immediately stepping aside.
Rong Xian’an waved him off, telling him to back down.
Rong Zhi raised his eyebrows slightly, lazily answering, "Slept in the house."
"You weren’t in your room at all, slept? Where? On the roof?!" Ying Man snapped, "At such a young age, you’re full of lies. Is this the etiquette you learned from that home?"
Ying Man was too focused on lecturing, completely unaware of how Rong Zhi’s eyes instantly turned cold at her last words.
Seeing Rong Zhi remain silent, she thought she had hit the mark making him guilty, which only heightened her impatience.
Rong Xian’an, like Ying Man, didn’t believe a word Rong Zhi said.
Shouting coldly: "Tell us honestly where you went last night. Running around at night, do you think this is still your small and shabby Qingqu County?!"
Rong Zhi, growing tired of standing, sat down on the nearby grand master chair, legs crossed, chin propped up, watching the two of them act with disdain in her eyes.
Rong Xian’an rubbed his temples, Rong Zhi’s indifferent attitude infuriating him, raising his voice: "Rong Zhi! I’m asking you a question."
Rong Zhi crushed the candy, dragging out her words lazily: "I told you, I was sleeping in my room."
She wasn’t lying to Rong Xian’an, before coming to the hall, she had indeed returned to her room to sleep for half an hour before coming over.
